New O-A Extension Insurace
Andrew Dwyer replied to mrbeerguy's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, as I am in the process of changing to an O visa it is not really relevant to me, I just saved the premiums table for information in threads such as this. I got it from another poster who recently received it from LMG as his OA retirement extension is imminent. But I do think that anyone with any knowledge of the OA mandatory health insurance could see that it relates to the new/proposed premiums increase. Just to clear up any confusion: Current Retirement extension ( OA ) mandatory health insurance premiums Proposed retirement extension ( OA ) mandatory health insurance premiums from Sept 1st ( maybe ). -
I get the Account suspended message , despite never accessing this site before. Onwardticket.com seems to be the way to go.

Where does one find these large blocks of Mainland cheese, I seem to remember someone mentioning Makro but my local Makro doesn’t stock it. Best I have is Big C with the Tasty , Mature Cheddar and Vintage varieties but at 209 baht for 250 gr I feel i am missing out !!

Applying for the yellow book, prior to applying for the Non-Thai pink ID card, can be as easy as presenting your passport up to a downright refusal. Many threads on this subject with MANY different experiences , certified copies of passport from Embassy and translation at MFA is popular as is your birth certificate ( for parents names ), 2 x witnesses sometimes required, marriage certificates or , in my case, a translated certified copy of a decree nisi could also be required. In short: a visit to your Amphur to get the list of required documents is the only way to find out.

The big question is: Do you have a re-entry permit ? I am assuming you do and want to override it with a visa exempt entry to pursue the non O route ??, which I don’t think is possible although I vaguely recall a poster inquiring about a similar case a few years ago, don’t remember the outcome. Perhaps @ubonjoe can shed some light ?

New O-A Extension Insurace
Andrew Dwyer replied to mrbeerguy's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
1) The insurance coverage of the first visa application and extension – originally indicated that the amount of coverage in the case of out-patients shall not less than 40,000 THB and in-patients shall not less than 400,000 THB – is changed into having health insurance or social welfare covering all medical expenses including the ones for COVID-19 with the coverage of not less than 100,000 USD (3 million THB). -

I think it’s better to be able to choose any insurance policy you want without being tied to one of the Thai insurances on the list for OA. -

Given that the T sizes are measured point to point and Allen key wrenches are measured AF ( across flats ) I would wager it is a 3mm or 1/8” Allen wrench .

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
They seem to be more interested in pushing the Creta at the minute, saw some a couple of times on show and was surprised to see no Hybrid, no PHEV, no EV. -
The problem with stating that a “retirement visa “ is “exactly that “is the problem, 90% of the time they are referring to an extension, usually from an O visa or could be also an OA visa which does make a difference in the help sought. While Jerno’s tongue twister might seem over the top he is correct in his statement. If the old guard wish to continue to refer to the mythical “ retirement visa “ they are more than welcome but the number of threads on here , seeking assistance, from “ old guard “ and noobies alike proves that using incorrect terminology only increases the confusion.

GWM were at my local mall again today, asked a salesman when the H6 PHEV would be released. ” Next month “ he said, and how much I asked ? ” 1.8 million “ he replied , at my obvious surprise at 1.8 he then said “ 1.6 million “ !! Not a lot of faith in this quote ???? -
I believe 2018 was the cut off point for existing OA extension holders to be “ grandfathered in “ for Phuket only, which made sense as when the mandatory health insurance ( OA visa and retirement extension of ) was introduced in 2019 they allowed existing holders to be exempt. A shame other IO’s didn’t adopt the same practice.

A little bit off track there. A retirement extension from an original OA visa is identical to a retirement extension of an O visa EXCEPT mandatory health insurance is required since October 2019. Many holders of a retirement extension of stay based on an original OA will leave/or have left Thailand to return with an O visa ( or visa exempt) to achieve a retirement extension from the O visa and not pay the mandatory health insurance.
