  1. I would suspect they are waiting for payment for duty. If you have a tracking number, go to your local post office and ask about it. They may be sitting on the request for payment. It has happened to me a few times for that reason.
  2. If any of this is a surprise to you, you've not been paying attention or just denying what has already been said numerous times.
  3. There is a hotel with a restaurant near me in Phimai. In 8 years, the wife and I have gone maybe 4 times. Two times the food was acceptable. The last time, about 6 months ago, the service was horrid. In fact, I never got my food, but the wife got her's. There was one party in a private room, and the staff could not take care of two different tables. The previous time, about 3 years ago, the food was almost edible, but the waiter was rude to my wife. When the service or food is bad, we just do not return. Waiting a year or so in hopes of a personnel change.
  4. Food my local Lotus doesn't carry, or can't stock the shelves when supply is gone. No other store in Phimai. Sure would be a great opportunity for a TOPS, MACRO, or another grocery store. There is one other store, but it is set up for Thai commercial - restaurants and such.
  5. I had the same thing happen last year. I did get my insurance money back, but not the cost of the EMS. Now after another lost package, I am looking for an alternative to the Thai post system.
  6. My mail consistently gets lost, misplaced or sits for an eternity. Has been going on for the past 8 years, and I really need to find an alternate. I am familiar with services in the US that will give you an address you can have mail sent to them, which they then scan, notify you and send it on to you if desired. Is there any service like this in Thailand? Thank you.
  7. All the lost tax revenue, and for what greater good?
  8. Facebook marketing is good, IF you pay for the extra services, otherwise no one will see it. It usually runs a hundred baht a day or so. They did try to charge me again a month after my ad expired though. So watch for that. I paid for a guitar ad, and got a few replies in a few days. When it expired as a paid ad, not one call for two months. Bahtsold is good. The best are FB groups related to the instrument.
  9. I sold one four years ago using Facebook. I met the buyer at the Rolex company in Bangkok, where they certified the watch. We did the sale in the lobby afterwards. Make damn sure you are in a safe place. A few years ago someone had their watch stolen from a guy who was looking to buy, in a small hotel in the lobby. Have some backup people standing nearby.
  10. I do not remember the entire list, but if you have a previous marriage in the US, you will need a copy of the divorce decree or annulment papers from the clerk of courts where the divorce occurred. It seems like that is all. Then the marriage in Thailand, if it is an official one (vs local village only) you can recorded it at the US embassy. Remember for tax season, to get an ITIN, or International Tax ID number. I good US tax office can apply for one for you from the IRS. Then you can file married and save a bundle on taxes, rather than filing single. I used American Asian tax co. Highly recommend.
  11. My bet is a fan blade. The fan is running very slow, maybe something is stuck in the blades.
  12. Yes you can do via the Philippines. They actually are far more helpful than trying to call the US.
  13. If Zyrtec bakes you drowsey, try Benadryl. AKA Diphenhydramine. I have used it for most of my adult life.
  14. I just completed this quiz. My Score 0/100 My Time 24 seconds

  18. 3 years ago I sent a camera body to the US for repair via FedEx. When it came back, they sent it fedex. And so with Fedex or DHL, they made their stop at customs. Customs wanted about 6,000 THB for duty. The camera was 8 years old, and worth about that much. I mentioned that Fedex sent the dang thing. I told Fedex to send it back, I was not going to pay it. A few days later they sent an email suggesting I pay 4,000thb. I told them to send it back, I was not going to pay. A week later I got the camera body. I paid nothing.
  19. There has to be some charities around that would love to have stuff, and come pick them up. Children's homes as well, if you have kids clothes.
  20. Buy a bag of dried kidney beans and make your own? Worth a try if you like beans. Canned beans have a ton of sugar as well.
  21. I personally know of a few Thai's that when they travel to the US, they only eat at Thai restaurants. I would bet it is the same for everyone. I laugh when people reply "they should eat local". Do as I say, not as I do.
  22. Okinawa is fairly cheap. I was on Kadena for a few years. 2nd hand cars are dirt cheap and always low miles, as the island is like 90 miles long and maybe 10 miles wide. If you are near one of the many bases, rent is high, as it is based on what the US govt pays the military persons and contractors. Expect a one bedroom to run upwards of $1500 and up a month. As a foreigner, you will pay the highest rate even if not affiliated with a base. Food if local, is cheap. I ate a lot of sushi for next to nothing, a dollar and change for a 2 shashimi fresh off the boat. But there are so many foreigners, the locals are real tied of them. I expect to see them booted off the island in the next 10 years.
  23. Scotland or Canada. If they would have me.
  24. I remember when Chump said he could shoot someone in the street and walk free. Please someone turn the tables. Maybe we should do a "fund-me".
  25. I got different numbers from a Thai gov website: 1669 is for snake removal, and 191 was for emergencies. How many different numbers are there?
