Question about a transit in BKK.
CanadaSam replied to PhoSai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I wouldn't worry about it too much, you are not entering Thailand, so you are not by-passing your black-list. In case of the unlikely event that Thai Air causes you problems, just remember the golden rule in Thailand, be polite, find an immigration officer who speaks English and extremely politely tell them of-course you're sorry about the black-list, but as you are not trying to enter the country at all, perhaps he could help by having a word with the airline staff? -
Dunno if I'm strange, but I get a warm and fuzzy reassured feeling when I get an OTP on my mobile phone. It tells me that somebody would need to know my username, password, and also be able to open my mobile phone to gain access to my accounts. More security the better, IMO, when it comes to my money!

Dissolution of Move Forward disenfranchises 14 million Thais – US
CanadaSam replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am confused by the average Thai mentality. On the one hand, the slightest offence causes hoardes of people to be violent against the offender, 10 to 1, sometimes 20 to 1, etc. On the other hand, their vote is blatantly stolen, their favourite party is disbanded and also barred from running the country, and.... nothing? -
Girl Forgotten at Gas Station Travels 400 km Before Rescue
CanadaSam replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Just a slap? A 6 year old girl could have gotten into some serious trouble all alone, I think at the least a severe beating! -

I hope you were referring to the last post of a video by "Luuk Chai" which was honestly the longest, most boring, and totally useless few minutes of my life. -
What are the best ways to meet other expats?
CanadaSam replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in General Topics
https://www.internations.org/ They have meetings every few days at different and usually interesting venues, for expats. Just put your email address, they will keep you informed of dates and times. -
Quality tourist here. Where is my red carpet and smiles?
CanadaSam replied to Chris Daley's topic in General Topics
All three places you mention seem to have sh*t in common, perhaps when you smell excrement upon entering, you should try a different eatery? -
Every time I buy a PC / Laptop for any member in my family, I always check the CPU (Central Processor Unit) speed first, at: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ Anything above 5000 is ok, over 10,000 and it's fast.

Here is the instruction manual, it is in Russian, but not difficult on my laptop to right click and translate with Google translate. https://service-instruction.ru/manual/211866/daewoo-dw-tzm12kva?page=7

Well, yes, they give you the actual exchange rate before you make the transfer. The strange thing is, on days when the dollar is getting weaker throughout the day, I get the money deposited into my account very late in the evening! On other days, when the dollar seems to be getting stronger, I get the money as early as they can deposit it into my account! I am not a banker, but PERHAPS the local bank is making a little extra by holding on to the Wise money for a few hours to make a few extra bucks? I really don't know for sure, I am only telling you what I have experienced personally.

Reel trouble in Phuket: Man hooked for fishing in temple pond
CanadaSam replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Lack of education and lack of common sense keeps this country from progressing, at all! I have witnessed these ponds where there are so many fish, and not enough food, they literally gather in masses or hundreds and jump over each other to get the offered breadcrumbs. I have been told that most of the fish are dead at the bottom of these ponds as they were not strong enough to fight others for the food. I have also been told that they become cannibals and start eating each other's young due to hunger. So, let's deny food to a poor and hungry fellow human being, and keep adding fish in to these "designated" temple ponds, where they can keep killing each other and keep living in perpetual hunger. Doesn't really sound much like Buddhist behaviour, does it? -
In most cases, I think it is the fault of the local bank. I believe Wise relies on increasing business based on their policy of "seconds" for transfers, and in most cases, it really does take seconds! I have experienced the odd case of the local bank delaying (larger) transfers when the exchange rate is volatile on that day, and other anomalies.

Change begins with you! I always take the opportunity to "educate" young boys, with gentle persuasion, to help out, even often rewarding them with a treat, certainly I do it with my extended family members! It falls on you to make the youngsters you are in contact with into more decent helpful human beings, even if you manage to instill these important traits into one or two of them, you are helping make this world a more beautiful place!

Fascinating history of PI - even native Blacks
CanadaSam replied to GypsyT's topic in Philippines General Chat
Interesting, but I don't see girls in Negros Occidental having darker skin than the rest of PI, which is a little strange! -
Wise is LOT more than simply having a debit card! If I were the OP, I would open a Wise account ASAP! Once he has the Wise account, he can open up sub-accounts in ANY currency he wishes, including GBP, and it is easy as pie to have all his income routed into his Wise GBP account from the UK, because it shows up as a local account in the UK, so virtually no fees at that point. Then, he has MANY options open to him (besides the Wise card) to transfer funds to anywhere or anyone in the world including Thailand, as all he has to do is specify the bank account and the amount he wishes to transfer. And the fees are amazingly low, and it takes seconds, literally, not days! This could be his own account, a friend's, or even the account of the landlord where he is staying, etc. Wise has been a game-changer for me, I even use my funds to transfer within Wise to my other currency accounts there, depending on exchange rates trends, etc. Everything happens within seconds on Wise, I have not been disappointed, thus far!!!

Pattaya rebranding as family-friendly destination to boost tourism
CanadaSam replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
In business, it is often better to leave a thriving business alone, and try new marketing concepts in a different location. Does Thailand have any lack of more beautiful destinations that could be made "family-friendly"? No! For example, Hua Hin, etc. Please do it elsewhere, and spread the wealth around! -
When will the gov't learn that only ONE deportation of a misbehaving tourist does WONDERS in their home country, to stop this from happening again, by excessive media coverage at home, to educate their people on how to behave when in foreign lands? This is a great plan, now let's not go overboard, and just throw these jerks out, and watch the positive results almost immediately! Let's not do the overkill thing and start throwing people out willy-nilly, ok?
