As I haven't been in Pattaya long, I would appreciate suggestions on venues where we can celebrate the holidays, personally I prefer A/C, rooftop, or other nice view, but all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

I think this was a very serious disaster averted, the kid must be deranged, and surely planning on ending some lives in the near future. Perhaps he wanted to see the movie to get some ideas and courage to go ahead. Well done to the theatre for alerting the police!

I doubt if anyone would "jump" in front of a vehicle to commit suicide, considering the chances of mutilation and extreme pain etc. from failure. Far easier to take a flying leap from a tall building where success is guaranteed.

IMO, not in this case. I too, oppose bail for criminals accused of serious crimes, after they have been caught, but this guy is out, free, and looking for bail, which means his intentions are to turn himself in to face the legal process. Much cheaper to simply give him bail so that he can come in, rather than wasting valuable gernades and police resources to try and catch him!

My experiences in muslim countries: Bangladesh - No alcohol allowed, but bars everywhere, pitch black inside, can barely see your drink, reason: Everybody drinking does not want their neighbor to see who they are! Pakistan - No bars anywhere, but almost everybody drinking at home, including private parties, obviously a thriving black market for (illegal) booze. Saudi - Aircraft in transit, women boarding dressed in head to toe black bedsheets, going into the bathrooms and coming out dressed like western models, the men ordering alcohol non-stop as soon as we take off.

Like many things, people and places in Thailand, it really depends on your attitude and appearance. I always seem to get on the authorities good side by simply being respectful, and if necessary, remorseful. Yes, I once got through the airport a couple hours late, without the overstay stamp, simply by being friendly and courteous.

I would strongly urge you to tell him to get out, as soon as possible, using a Bangkok airport, by paying his 20,000 fine and then trying to "convince" the IO in charge with a large wad of notes to reduce the blacklist period, he can always try, it may not work. Far better than getting caught and spending time in the detention center, especially for an older farang. He could visit a nearby country like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, while he ponders his next steps, and also his family could easily visit him while he figures it out.

OP, please do not forget to get the re-entry stamp (single or multiple) before you leave Thailand, or all will be in vain, and your retirement visa will lapse and you will have to go through the entire procedure again....
