There are a lot of Iranian people who are against the theocracy there. Nuclear weapons would not discriminate. Iranians are not Arabic, so the Arab nations are hardly sympathetic, but I don't think anyone would appreciate a nuclear attack in the region. Israel would be better off specifically targeting the Iranian government and military leaders.

Fisheries reform: Bangkok risks backtracking on exploitation
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If I remember correctly, talking to someone from Thai Union several years ago, they put policies in place to avoid negative publicity and their major overseas investors asking them some serious questions. I don't think they expected to go to prison however. -

Seems the boom of Chinese companies in Thailand is proving to be not the great idea it was first thought to be. Now that e-waste recycling had been seen as a danger in China they come here to poison the Thais.

Thailand sets target to recycle all plastic waste by 2027
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I once asked a government official why there was so much plastic on Mae Ramphueng Beach in Rayong. He said that while the municipality put trash cans every 50 meters next to the road, Thais didn't want to walk from the beach to the road to dump their trash. The beach is not owned by the municipality but the state, so they were not allowed to put waste bins there as it "would look ugly". By the way, people don't "recycle waste" as it requires technology, which not even the Thai government has considered investing in. -
... And we will set up a completely safe nuclear power plant that no one should worry about. Trust us.

No real definition of what "high quality" tourism means. Is it about wealth or politeness or what? -

I don't think the index actually measures general criminality, but as it says in the title, organized crime, such as gangs and mafia-style syndicates. That explains why the amount of daily crime faced by expats is not inordinately high.

I am surprised that Thailand does not have a naturist beach, seeing as they bend over backwards to attract more visitors. 😁 -

Maybank’s bet: Thailand casinos could hit jackpot, boosting GDP
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Maybank needs to look at the revenue from gambling (and alcohol) in its own Muslim backyard. Illegal betting syndicates now take a big chunk of the legitimate businesses away and cause the government to lose some RM3 billion (S$980 million) in tax revenue annually. It is a gamble that the government cannot win. -
