THAI's Sky-High Deal: 45 Dreamliners to Revamp Fleet
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have to wonder whether the price will rise over the next few years. At least 12 countries make parts for Boeing, and all of them have to pay Trumptax. -
Air India's High-Flyer Faces Bangkok Pee Probe: Chaos in Clouds
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It was probably gearing down, surely? Usually, the crew does not allow you to stand up and go to the lavatory during takeoff and landing. -

I doubt there will be a long jail term. Just put him on the next plane back to bananaville. -

Thaksin Warns: Thailand's Economic Woes Worse Than 1997 Crisis
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
So, he says the country is in the mud and sinking. Not one idea for how to help get the country out of the hole or mitigate the effects of the crisis. Create a skilled populace. Diversify manufacturing. Make things that other countries want. Investigate mining potential. Not a single idea. -

Marry American and everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Can't say I have any sympathy for him. Get a real job. -

More cunning stunts from the White House. I wonder who made a buck on the stock market. -
Fox is not a news channel. They already admitted it in court. It is strictly entertainment.

Thailand Tackles US Tariffs: Plans for Trade Reform Unveiled
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand should spread its wings and instead of selling goods to the USA, seek out new and growing markets elsewhere. Africa is the next Asia and selling cheap automobiles there will be better than an unreliable trade partner. -
Commanders Face Heat Over Army Conscript Abuse Scandal
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The professional soldiers in Thailand I have met tend to be very hard men. I wouldn't get on their bad side. Conscripts are much softer and are not people you would worry about meeting in a dark alley. Better to go with a fully professional military. -
Not a complete plan but a start: using taxation is not unusual when needed. Roosevelt raised taxes on the rich, with top marginal tax rates reaching 79% by 1936. Eisenhower - a conservative Republican if ever there was one - maintained a top marginal tax rate of 92% for the highest earners, a rate he inherited from the Truman administration. Yes, 92%. Although Reagan is known for tax cuts, the highest marginal rate during his presidency was 70% in 1981, which he later reduced to 50% then 28%. Guess when the national debt started to rise dramatically? Why, in the 1980s of course. The increase was largely driven by substantial tax cuts and increased defense spending under President Reagan. By the end of Reagan's presidency in 1989, the national debt had grown to approximately $2.7 trillion. So, raise taxes on the rich and cut defense spending are two ways to help the economy.

Why no tariffs on Russia, North Korea, Belarus and Cuba? Despite rumormongering that they are Trump's friends, the facts are more mundane. They are not subject to the Reciprocal Tariff Executive Order because they are already facing extremely high tariffs, and previously imposed sanctions preclude any meaningful trade with those countries.

Australian Teen Dies in Koh Samui Motorbike Collision
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Had a dirt bike here 20 years ago and went everywhere on it, including Bangkok to Aranyaprathet. Besides a full-face helmet, keeping a sensible speed is important and defensive driving is also a key. It is too easy when you are young to feel invulnerable. -

I wonder whether the Chinese are simply aiding an ally or getting some experience for invading Taiwan? -
Broker Extradited from China to Face 14 Billion Baht Fraud Charges
Purdey replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Taking the piss of Thai names is incredible childish, like telling people Dawson means small dick in Thai. -
I believe it will get progressively more expensive to fly on American made planes as their manufacturing costs rise. Modern planes use a lot of foreign parts, which is going to cause rising ticket prices.

You will find two items that conflict on Google: 1. Tiger Woods was granted Thai citizenship, 2. Tiger Woods does not hold dual citizenship. The government offered and he refused.

It was even in Asean Now at the time! https://aseannow.com/topic/8980-dual-citizen-tiger-woods/ I was here at the time and remember it clearly.

What China could do next as Trump's tariff war ramps-up
Purdey replied to bannork's topic in Political Soapbox
Withdraw the money they have in American bonds/treasuries? Transfer to the EU. -
Mass killing of children seems to be a thing in some, well at least one, western country, so rather dangerous. It would be wrong to say Thais are snow white when it comes to prejudice or mumbling under the breath. When Tiger Woods was offered a free Thai passport, he turned it down because of how his mother was treated when she had a black husband.
