Arrived in Thailand w/ 90 day non O visa
DrJack54 replied to rucus7's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It's not only about funds. Think you will find that you entered with visa based marriage you cannot obtain first extension of permission of stay based on retirement. Immigration may allow it as less work for them. Best advice is to apply for non O for reason same as extension. In subsequent years change based on is not an issue. -
Arrived in Thailand w/ 90 day non O visa
DrJack54 replied to rucus7's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Your thread title indicates that you entered Thailand with a non O. Based on what.... marriage or retirement? You need to have 800k in the bank account for 2 months prior to application of extension for retirement and 400k in bank for 2 months for extension based on marriage. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You are providing poor advice. The OP is looking for advice on obtaining a non O based on marriage from local Thai immigration office. That is different to applying for 12 months extension to permission of stay. The advice that @Liquorice has provided in the thread re using income method is correct I also pointed out that the OP will not be able to use income method as he cannot show 12 months of transfers. Oz embassy does not provide income letters along with USA and UK At this point he doesn't even have a Thai bank account in his name only. Along with thread that outlines the process I posted earlier. Also his first extension he will need to use funds in bank method. Also noted that while the application for a non O visa (not an extension) only requires funds in bank on day of application.... Jomitien is insisting on 2 months seasoning. -
12 month bank statement
DrJack54 replied to CallumWK's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Previously for many years I only needed to provide bankbook and photocopies of pages. CW. Last 2 extensions they wanted 12 month bank statement. IO pointed to the fact that in one month there was no activity. I use dedicated bank account for immigration. I can understand issue with consolidated transactions however no entry in a particular month is a nonsense. -
Exactly. Since you have a Thai bank account you could transfer 800k now. Depends on your entry date. Otherwise deal with "normal" immigration office eg CW and use TM87 to move from visa exempt to non O retirement https://aseannow.com/topic/1311886-visa-exempt-to-retirement-extension-process-and-cost/

Don't do that. Flying visa exempt to Thailand the airline at departure may ask for onward flight within 60 days. On arrival it's not common that Thai immigration would ask for onward flight. You can purchase a throw away ticket or buy rent a ticket. Sites such as "onward ticket.com" BTW: Do you have a Thai bank account in your name only and which immigration office are you planning to obtain non O

Non O visa based on marriage and separate life
DrJack54 replied to steph83's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did say "generally speaking" Which immigration office were you able to do extension based on parent while still married? Here is cut/paste from ubonjoe in similar threads.... "Other than the 400k baht being the bank for 2 months for marriage and only on the day you apply for being the parent there is little difference. In some cases marriage would be easier since some offices want a letter from you child's school and photos of them at the school and a few other things. Also some offices would not do the extension based upon being their parent if married." -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You misread the guy you were quoting.. He is pointing out that a non O cannot be obtained at immigration in Thailand from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry using income method without embassy letter. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That will be a problem from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry. You require a certificate of residence or letter from embassy. Oz embassy does not provide that service. Also in Bangkok they require a 90 day report to have been done to obtain COR. That isn't possible. Entering with a non O obtained in Australia would make opening a bank account easier. Agents can assist with opening bank account. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Indeed as pointed out earlier he will need to use funds in the bank for the non O and 12 month extension. He could at the same time start monthly transfers and possibly change to income method in future years having shown 12 months of transfers -
Non O visa based on marriage and separate life
DrJack54 replied to steph83's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Generally speaking to apply for extension based on support of Thai child you would need to be divorced. Assuming you are over 50 thinking your best option is change to extension based on retirement. When your current extension is due for renewal you could make the change. You would require 800k in bank for 2 months prior to application. Wife would need to attend. -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
No problem. You can even obtain a non O based on marriage or retirement from a visa exempt entry. This attached thread outlines the process https://aseannow.com/topic/1315379-tourist-visa-conversion-to-non-o-thai-family/ -
Unlimited 60-day Visa Exempt for US Citizen
DrJack54 replied to TimLMT's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Put it in perspective. Is there a limit on visa exempt entries via air? Answer: No. Are folk ever denied entry via air using visa exempt entries back to back ongoing? Answer: Yes. The choice of the word "unlimited" was poor. They simply removed the "2 per calendar year" rule. -

That information is incorrect. Not uncommon. -
What are the chances part 2
DrJack54 replied to worldtraveler3's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
3 months out then enter again visa exempt should be fine. Don't overstay in future. You will need flight out within 60 days. Check out "onwardticket.com" -
Marriage Visa - Proof of Income
DrJack54 replied to Aussie999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The "bank letter" does not do that. It confirms that you are the owner of the account and balance at time of issue. The "bank statement" shows funds in the account balances. Some offices will accept photocopies of bank book pages +bank book to show seasoning requirements have been met. -
OP, correct answers above. You can enter visa exempt and currently will be given 60 day stamp. Also can obtain 30 day extension at local immigration. Be aware that an onward flight may be required by airline at departure for boarding pass. You will not need to show accommodation with or without visa.

Thailand overstay 32 Days
DrJack54 replied to Dande's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Indeed. Alternative to exit country would be to attend immigration office pay short overstay and apply for 30 day extension. Done more often than some would think. Alternative is to exit asap and pay few days overstay and return to Thailand visa exempt entry. Perhaps attractive due to current 60 day stamp. Depends on how long he wants to stay in Thailand..
