Fact is funds can be asked to be shown and airline requiring onward flight is often required. Your personal experience is somewhat irrelevant as there are many reports of onward flight being required. Just to be clear for others your earlier post implying ATM card or Bank book can cover the funds requirement is incorrect.

A common couple of reasons for needing a residence certificate is to open bank account or obtain Thai diving license. CW requires the 90 day report for residence certificate however most places do no. As mentioned your embassy may provide equivalent. An agent can take care of bank account without certificate however cannot assist with residence certificate for divers license (in Bangkok)

Yes this is a CW thing. You must be doing 90 day reports to CW immigration in order to obtain a residence certificate. An alternative is to obtain equivalent from your embassy is they provide that. You would need to check if transport office if that's acceptable. Ask BSR bikes or Fatboy's and they will advise. Edit: just noticed you mentioned embassy.

If it wasn't for the insurance I would also do that as I return to visit Oz every year or so. I keep the 800k baht in Thai bank and am aware of the opportunity cost of doing that. If you decide to go down the non O-A route just be aware of the changes to insurance requirement coming Sept 1.

The non O-A is a multi entry visa valid for 12 months. Each entry in that period you are stamped in for 12 months. If exit and reenter just prior to expiry you are given 12 month permission of stay. So yes effectively 2 years from one non O-A Be aware that in the "second year" you would need to buy a reentry permit if wanted to exit and reenter Thailand. Without the insurance requirement this is a ripper visa especially for those that return to home country every couple of years and can obtain new non O-A.

By renew, assume you mean annual extensions. Some folk do not obtain extensions to a non O-A. Rather they obtain a new non O-A in their own country every 2 years. The main reason for this is they do not wish to keel money in a Thai bank. If you are after annual extensions that would be best done having a non O retirement as insurance is not a requirement

While there is no limit on visa exempt entry via air if you were just to exit Thailand and reenter via air ongoing then immigration would eventually have an issue. More so if the time spent out of Thailand is very short.

Why would you need to "re-register" your address. Assume you mean file TM30. That would not be required if returning on same visa or reentry permit. TM6 was temporarily suspended on July 2. It would not be required for 90 day report etc.

Obtaining non O retirement in your country will require insurance with 90 day cover. I suggest you look at option of enter Thailand visa exempt or tourist visa and obtain the non O retirement in Thailand. The other comments you point out about entry requirements are correct. Entry to Thailand starts your 90 day count. It resets everytime you exit. By way of example ...my next report date is 25th Sept. The thing is I travel to Oz in Aug. So that report 25th is wiped. Don't do it. I return Sept 8. My next report is due 90 days from the arrival date. Prior to covid I never did a 90 day report for several years due to never being in Thailand continuously for 90 days.

You probably have had a gut full however you could do it by post and also continue trying online. Many reports of people getting couple of reject then an approval. I did one online and due to very slow reply (public holidays) did not receive quick approval so I posted also. After the holidays my online was approved. Later they attended to my postal report and it was returned with note on receipt that already approved via online.

If you end up traveling to Saigon for a ME non O please give us a trip report. For anyone living in Bangkok or nearby, a flight to Saigon much better option than say trip to Savannakhet. imo.
