Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
July around 1 in 7 new vehicles was an EV August around 1 in 6 new vehicles was an EV. Vinny, just admit it. EV's are growing anything with an ICE in it is declining. What new information do you have about why the trend for the last 7 months should reverse? Alien invasion? all EV's catching fire overnight? the pink tooth fairy declaring them haram? I know you don't like it, BUT it is happening. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You're missing the glaringly obvious..... 1. we would be seeing serious price reductions across all ICE brands trying to reduce their oversupply of stock or 2. we would see ICE factories start to shut down and ICE manufacturers move out of Thailand and 3. ICE dealers will be hurting as they lose sales to EV's. Actually, we have seen all 3. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Firstly, EV sales are not collapsing, they are accelerating. Secondly, not "everyone" is buying hybrids. Hybrids are ICE+ and that + is nothing more than a gimmick unless it's a PHEV. -
Reduce taxation by gifting.
JBChiangRai replied to phetphet's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'm not so sure, I think it would depend on how you constructed that arrangement. For example, British owner is Christian and allows Australian tenant to stay rent free but in return do some ministry. Australian tenant independently donates to British owner for him to apply in whatever charitable way he sees fit or not at his sole discretion. I think a tax accountant/lawyer could construct the right agreement, this is what they do day-in, day-out. -

And even less ICE will be sold than 2023 Growth in EV sales is seriously affecting ICE dealers now. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
that is great news, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit. -
in February I think the market sure here was about 6%. It’s been increasing every month on month continuously to 13 point something or other percent in July.
-
Thailand was over 13% market share for EV in new vehicle sales for July, we should get August figures within a week.
-
IMHO it’s all about the cost of EV’s. Tariff Chinese EV’s to buggery and you will be right in that country. Tariff them lightly like Thailand and you will be wrong in that country. I feel sorry for consumers who are denied the possibility of buying them at a sensible price.

They most definitely are in Thailand. It's all about price.

Jim Rowan, chief executive of Volvo, said: “We are resolute in our belief that our future is electric. Volvo is now aiming for between 90pc and 100pc of cars sold to be fully electric or plug-in hybrid models by the end of the decade. Volvo ditches electric car plans (msn.com)

Not at all guys. What does a legacy company do when they can't compete in the EV space? Think about it. JonnyF, I'm beginning to wonder about your integrity. You had a relative selling an EV because she hated it. You agreed to pass my number on as I am interested buyer. I never received a call. Do you really have such a relative?

Thank you for the compliment. So now you know my background is software, sales & marketing (I was Sales Director of Thailand's AVSEC company managing Suvarnabhumi & Phuket), so go on, tell us about your business? and what your areas of expertise are? I'm assume you have some other than heckling. You questioned mine, now I'm questioning yours.

I can tell you banking secrecy does not exist in Thailand, and how I know. When I applied for the Elite visa through an agent, he came back and asked me why there were so many withdrawals in Australia in one month on a bank account I hadn't disclosed. I only gave details of one bank account, not the one they questioned because I don't use it day to day and only use it for a specific purpose (which I'm not going into here).

I was one of two directors appointed by an Israeli company (ICTS, shareholders) who are experts in AVSEC and whose company handles AVSEC at dozens of airports all over the world. Without their expertise the security contracts with AOT could not have been won. I worked with one of their MD's nearly 40 years ago in an Israeli software house and subsequently ICTS were customers of the software house I founded. I was in Thailand (retired), impeccable character (previously a magistrate) and persuadable. I am an expert in IT, management, sales & marketing, the other director is an expert in AVSEC. Does that answer your question Gottfrid? Why don't you tell me what you did?

Often electricity outage and undervoltage
JBChiangRai replied to passiflora's topic in The Electrical Forum
Undervoltage will cause issues for anything with a motor or switching power supply (which your soundbar probably has). If you're lucky it will be an internal fuse. Undervoltage causes it draw more current to compensate, usually a fuse blows. -
Interesting article about how ignorance about EV's is holding back EV uptake in the UK. Ignorance of how EVs work is holding back uptake, says survey | Electrek

The issue with Mae Sai is it's geography. You cannot go North or West because of borders, so I think there's a risk you will go stir-crazy. The restaurants are all pretty much Thai and you probably won't find many Farang friends. When I moved North I first lived half-way between Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong, it drove me mad over 2 years and I found myself driving to Chiang Rai town every weekend. We moved to town 11 years ago and I'm much happier here. We have probably a dozen Japanese Restaurants, a few Italian, Mediterranean, Indian, American, Turkish, pretty much every cuisine you might want, you probably won't find any of them in Mae Sai. My advice is to sell or let the house in Mae Sai and buy or rent in Chiang Rai town. Regarding air pollution, budget for a few good air purifiers and run them as needed. Don't skimp on buying them, the bigger ones are much better and quieter than the smaller ones. Make sure you have inverter air conditioning for the hot season and if you're buying a car, buy one with a PM 2.5 filter.

The benefits of living alone as an older man
JBChiangRai replied to simon43's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You only get head until you give them cake, then never again head (Wedding Cake). I have a live-in housekeeper. Hotel trained. Keeps the house spotless, does the laundry, shampoos the dogs and cats, answers the door, turns down my bed at dusk and draws the curtains. I was in hospital overnight 2 years ago after a kidney stone operation, she slept on the floor next to my hospital bed and brought food in. I was married 16 years, I subscribe to the definition of stupidity, I won't do that again, and besides, no wife would do as much for me as my housekeeper. -
Second-hand tsunami: Used car flood drives Thai sellers to despair
JBChiangRai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A lot of the new promised technologies, specifically from Japan are just Vapourware, like Toyota's sold-state batteries that should have flooded the market by now. -
I didn't get more details than the premium, I don't need it for another 4 months and I guessed Bandersnatch & Macahoom would have the renewal first with more details.

Bye bye Electric & Hello Hydrogen?
JBChiangRai replied to eezergood's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
There is another issue with HFCEV and H-ICE. Hydrogen is a very small molecule, it tends to work it's way through seals and high-pressure containers. Enclosed is a graph of the increase in concentration of Hydrogen found in a parked HFCEV Hydrogen container in a sealed room over 8 hours. Besides the additional expense and complexity of HFCEV over EV's, you might like to consider leakage and safety. Especially if you're not using your vehicle every day.
