  1. You can have that quiet lifestyle in places other than Isaan. Not a thing wrong with Isaan but the only reason expats settle there is for the sake of their lady.
  2. So you ride motorbike at night with no lights on the wrong side, drink lao kao, when you drink you drink till you're absolutely pi88ed then drive the car home with family, I routinely drive 150 kph on the ring road, routinely pass cars on blind curves and hills where i can't see oncoming traffic, I have my truck visor nicely tattooed by a monk for good luck. My drivers license expired 5 yrs ago, don't bother with insurance. I'm fitting right in.

That reminds me, got to hit the ATM today. 20K is my usual withdrawl. Using a card sort of desensitizes the cost. Recently in the USA I found myself using my card for buying gas because I could pay at the pump and the high gas prices was easier forgotten.

What does following your wife's commands have to do with masculinity?
  7. One of my concerns with parking 800K in a long term account is - What happens to the money when you die? Is it as simple as naming a Thai beneficiary on the account? If so then not a bad way to go. If there's alot of paperwork and an attorney involved then I'd say it's a bad way.
  8. In Pattaya, I just got a quote of 26,000K for 90 day Non O and 12 mos extension. I have a bank account. Agent needs 21 days prior to end of your stay to start process.
  9. I'm doing a 90 day Non O as well based on being father of Thai minor child. I'm listed as the father on Birth Certificate but not married to the mother but we've been together for 11 + years. In the US precovid I've had several Non O's issued using birth cert only but here in Thailand it states "In case father is a foreigner, must present an official notarized document from a court of law certifying that child is biological offspring of the foreign father." Any thoughts on this requirement.
  10. I needed a Certificate of Residency from immigration to sell my motorcycle. I went with buyer to office and did all the paperwork there.
  11. Go see an agent. Is it a legit policy? I doubt it for 3000 bht. But it got my extension. I recently left Thailand and returned letting my OA expire with no reentry permit. Now I'm going the Non O route.
  12. I've extended my OA in 2020 using an agent. Total cost was 17,000 which included a BS 3,000bht policy from Bangkok Ins. Didn't have to mess with any banking paperwork. Which is cheaper than any Ins you may find and no labor on my part.
  13. Cook up the Rocky Mountain Oysters.
  14. In the trust I set up naming a person for power of attorney to handle affairs if I am unable.
  15. Yes, I picked a trustee, family member.
  16. I just made a trust in the US. The retirement funds aren't part of the trust. They are listed but separate I believe. The account with invested savings is part of the trust as are my bank accounts and real estate.
  17. Why not start dishing out the money now instead of waiting, just thinking out loud.
  18. I recently created a trust in the US and listed my Thai daughter as beneficiary of saving accounts and % of retirement, not sure about the monthly payouts.
  19. My words were his pension is earned based on time served and rank achieved during his service to his country. You took those words and came up with "Thank you for your service." Many say it just to sound correct. I don't know but I do know that joining the military is the furthest thing from a regular job regardless of the money. Putting yourself in harm's way as part of your job isn't a job description many are willing to sign up for. I'm sure there's plenty Seals, Army Rangers and SAS folks here who can explain and elaborate much more eloquently than I.
  20. It's a paycheck with a pension at the end. You brought on the "Why thank them" rant not me. If this has to be explained to you, then it's a null point.
  21. What constitutes good pay is probably different from person to person, nationality to nationality. In Thailand 1000 USD a month would be a good salary, in my old profession that was a good day's wage.
  22. I'm sure he's a dick. He must have made some enemies elsewhere to be canned like this, not just because he caused a scene. About the money these guys make, I'm clueless. I do know US Military are well paid which is why guys join up these days.
