How scared should we be of Trump's authoritarian tendencies?
Lacessit replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
Perhaps we should be more scared of this, and how it affects the White House. https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/life/health/2025/04/28/junk-food-memory? -

The state of your mental health has never needed to be debated. -
When I traveled on the company dime for about 25 years, it was business class flights, 4-5 star hotels, and expensive restaurants. Still remember Antoine's in New Orleans. Tiger prawns in piri-piri sauce fresh out of the Mozambique channel. I am a lot more careful when it is my money I am spending. Travel is a transitory experience. I prefer to spend up on more permanent items, such as a good smartphone, golf clubs, or appliances.

You have evidence they do not? -
The ability to read the USB stick depends on the file format, formatting of the USB, and Android software version in the box itself. Any incompatibility, the USB becomes invisible. I have a mxQ box which seems to read everything. The inbuilt software in the TV itself will only read MP4 files.

I would be concerned about the mental health of a person who thinks having a felon and sexual predator as President is perfectly normal. IMO Trump's authoritarian tendencies are constrained by the US Constitution. Having said that, he does behave more like a mob boss than a politician. -
The development of mRNA vaccines for COVID was remarkably rapid compared to traditional vaccines. No doubt the process is being fine-tuned, that's the Development phase of R&D. What I posted is considerably less disgusting than the millions of parents who happily send their children to Sunday Schools and madrassas, to be infected with the brain disorder of religion.

All Vaccines Will Kill You - The evidence is overwhelming
Lacessit replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Covid/Vaccine
I call it as I see it. Noted you declined to address any of the points I posted, calling them delusions is a cop-out. You have a huge chip on your shoulder about people who have a better education than you. So you recite the "living experience" mantra. Please provide me with one good reason I should suffer fools gladly. -

Really? I seem to remember a post by you ( maybe even on this thread ) that did just that. -

Independent Samoa had 83 measles child deaths in 2019, due to anti-vax sentiment after a tragic incident in 2018 of incorrectly prepared vaccine. Prior to measles vaccinations in America, there would be 400-500 deaths every year. I had flu in my thirties, 2 weeks flat on my back aching all over. I have been having flu jabs for over 40 years, with not a single recurrence. How would you know there is no polio in the civilized world? Polio can be asymptomatic. There are 6 countries with endemic polio. There are only two countries out of 195 that require proof of polio vaccination from international travelers. -

Your post is rich with hypocrisy, as you have spent considerable time and vitriol in attacking me personally. FYI, your ability to speak several Asian languages has nothing to do with intelligence, only memory. Thousands of villagers on the banks of the Mekong have the same competence. You do not post any facts, only opinions based on your"life experiences". You seem to think a statistical sample of one is a more impressive data point than that of millions. Your choice of nom-de-plume is a glaring indicator of your intellectual vanity. -
The slogan MAGA resonated with many Americans. With it, Trump built a rusted-on support base, and hijacked the Republican Party. After World War 2, Britain was basically broke. Its colonies had become nations who were not going to provide resources to the Mother Country anymore. The fall of the British Empire was succeeded by the American Empire. America spends more on defense than the next nine countries on the planet. $968 billion, vs $620 billion for those countries combined. It's a measure of American paranoia when it is defended by two mighty oceans, with friendly neighbors north and south. Trump is hoping with tax cuts and tariffs he can make America great again. It's too late, tariffs are just another word for a tax which hits the poorest hardest. The British Empire lost economic dominance after WW II due to debt, now it is America's turn. Many Americans are in denial of that fact, clinging to Trump's promises.

Come as a tourist, pay tourist prices. There are plenty of clean, comfortable hotels in the 500 - 800 baht price range. There are also plenty of good restaurants who can serve up a good meal for 200-300 baht, even less if it is traditional Thai. Tourists don't know where to look, and most will also have a language barrier. In CM and CR, costs of long-term rentals and condo purchases have stayed static for more than a decade.
