Musk has the sense of humor of a scorpion. It was deliberate and defamatory. If I called you that, would you think I was joking?
-
Money determines what is defamatory. Musk defamed a British diving expert during the Thai cave rescue, by calling him a pedophile after the guy rubbished Musk's submarine idea. He got away with it, because he had a much bigger wallet to pay lawyers.

Don't you know motoring writers are the equivalent of journalistic prostitutes? They write according to who gives out the best invitations to trade shows and sporting events. Sales figures are the best guide. BYD overtook Tesla as the biggest seller in 2022. It was only Biden tariffs that helped Tesla get back market leader position in 2024. Worldwide, BYD leads. I have run out of insults for you, and it's not through lack of imagination. You might want to think about that.

As I understand it, one of the Japanese EV carmakers tore down a BYD they had purchased, for the purpose of reverse engineering. They were gobsmacked by how far ahead of their own vehicles the BYD was, in terms of technology. Another demonstration of your abject ignorance.

China will overtake the US as the world's biggest economy by 2030. It will be everyone's most important market. America has opted for old technology, gasoline powered vehicles. Tesla can't compete with Chinese EV's, poorer quality and higher prices. To give you an idea of how far America has sunk, in the 1950's the US produced half the world's steel. Now, China produces 10 times as much as America. The steel China produces went into infrastructure. 48,000 km of high speed rail criss-crossing the country. America, just 80 km. Pitiful. Estimates vary about the number of dams China has built on the Tibetan Plateau. Hundreds at minimum. Tell me, what major infrastructure has America built domestically in the last 20 years? It's like watching a race between a T-Model Ford and a Lamborghini. These are facts. If you don't like them, I have others.

Trump Creating a 2 Trillion $ Sovereign Wealth Fund
Lacessit replied to save the frogs's topic in Political Soapbox
During his last Presidency, Trump played golf on his own courses 300 times. On average, the American taxpayer was charged $800,000 each round for billeting his Secret Service detail. All up, $240 million. That does not include the $2 billion the Saudis pumped into son-in-law Kushner's company. Now post any Democrat President who has come within a bull's roar of those amounts. -
It takes a really good propaganda machine to dress up $600,000 income and $16 million in expenses as a good share to own. It takes utter stupidity to assign any value to the same stock, when it posts an income of $3.6 million while listing a $401 million loss. One can only hope the MAGA people have put their money where their mouth is.

Trump Creating a 2 Trillion $ Sovereign Wealth Fund

What are these "western principles"? The USA is in the process of becoming an oligarchy. It's easy to see how well that has worked for ordinary Russians. -
Elon Musk Urges US to 'delete' Federal Agencies in Government Overhaul

It was a massage. You should get one for your brain cells. No dream, a nightmare for Americans. Personally, what Trump does won't affect me at all. -
Oil shipping can be re-routed in a month or so. Canada has ports on its western and eastern seaboard. It's a matter of getting the stuff from within Canada. Yes, the US could shut those trade routes down. It would also mean America at war with the rest of the world. Trump is a bully. The only way to deal with bullies is to hit back - hard. China is doing that already, with retaliatory tariffs. Who do you think will blink first?

It's not as if I care one way or the other. If you can tell me how raising tariffs against allies and cutting taxes for billionaires makes America great again, I'm listening. -

Trump's financials are about as transparent as a mud puddle. There is plenty of debt in his property empire. many of which are losing money. I doubt the contractors he has dudded in the past would agree he's unlikely to loot the coffers. I'd trust him as far as I could throw him, but then I am not a MAGA idiot. -
That's more than I can say about you. Thanks for the validation, even if it was unintended.

IME consultants who come in promising to save money achieve very little. Of course, they claim to have saved a motza. No-one ever goes back a few years later to check how much money was actually saved. Meantime, said consultants reap fat fees for their services. The effect they have is to destroy morale, and create chaos. You think Musk is doing this out of altruism? Naive much? Or are you just thick? -

The wealth gap in the USA is going to get bigger. Cutting taxes will only accelerate the trend. So will tariffs. IIRC it was Churchill who said destroying a free market only serves to create a black market. If Musk gets his way, the data of those federal agencies he wants to close will be acquired by him. Free. $250 million to buy the Presidency is not a bad investment at all, considering the billions Musk can harvest from all that data. It does not matter if poor Americans or minority groups voted for Trump or Harris, they will all be tossed under a bus, irrespective of political affiliation. -
I buy BIC disposable razors, a French company. I base my purchases on whether they are value for money, not their origin. Having said that, the USA does not seem to produce quality goods and services any more, since bean counters took over. An exception is military equipment, which I don't need.

Is It Just Me, Or Are Thai Staff Getting Ruder By The Day?
Lacessit replied to SoCal1990's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
ASEAN is not as pubic as something like TripAdvisor or Google reviews. First, the owner of the business also has to be (a) someone who is an ASEAN member (b) actually reading the adverse mention of their business . Pretty long odds. -

In Case You Missed it, the Tattoo Fad is Over
Lacessit replied to Walker88's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Never had one, no reason to. IMO nothing puts one in a certain socio-economic class like a tattoo. It's the first thing a cop takes note of, even though they sometimes have them too. If you are trying to impress me with how tough you are with tattoos, forget it. It would be an interesting statistical exercise to determine the average IQ of tattooed people. As far as women go, I have yet to see one whose body was improved with a tattoo. They might as well wear a sign saying "I am a slut". -
China has now put tariffs on US vehicles which effectively kills off $3 billion of imports of the big SUV's and pickups America makes. It has also banned exports of key raw materials the US auto industry, among others, need for manufacturing. The Chinese auto market is the world's biggest, 26 million. The US runs a distant second with 15 million. Trump said to auto workers if he was not elected, there would be no auto industry left in 2-3 years. The Chinese now make cars cheaper and better.Just like the Japanese and Koreans before them. The above is not drivel of any political slant. It's fact.
