  1. Thanks for the information. WiFi calling is relatively new. Apparently you need a suitable modern (post 2015) smartphone to use it. You've also helped the OP and others by stating an alternative which they may not have been aware of.
  2. Thai Mrs and I want to visit her sister in Mumbai. Mrs has Thai passport, I have UK. If we both fly together from Thailand then different rules could apply to each of us?
  3. Very interesting khunjeff! Receiving calls and SMS from anywhere is free. The same international call/SMS rates apply wherever in the World you are calling from but you are charged the same rates that you would pay in Thailand. http://www.dtac.co.th/en/info/dtac-call.html
  4. Similar problem for me. There is a need to be able to receive SMS anywhere in the World. Skype only allows USA subscribers to receive SMS. I haven't yet tried it but VYKE apparently allows you to receive and send SMS anywhere. You pay for a virtual mobile number but it's economical, less than £12 GBP per annum if you choose to subscribe yearly.
  5. Disturbing information upon this thread. Very good to know to avoid future problems. I was contemplating signing up to VYKE, obtaining a virtual U.K. mobile number from them which I read should both receive and send SMS. Now I'm not so sure?
  6. Bought Hankook exclusively when residing in South America. No problems.
  7. Might be possible depending how many vehicles the OP has previously purchased from my second-hand car dealer friend?
  8. Thank you very much for the detailed and reassuring report. Probably put many people at ease now!
  9. Many thanks for reporting back in order to help others! Unfortunately, that seems to be the standard of customer service in many companies. Telling you to read their FAQ's is insulting. I would argue that as they haven't told you it's necessary then any reasonable person would assume it isn't? As you say, best to allow extra time just in case. Flying is stressful enough (well it is to me) without such uncertainties in addition.
  10. Thanks for that. Always fearful of errors/omissions though. Is it possible to E mail their Customer Services so that you have something in writing? If not I would telephone although the answer you get may not be up-to-date.
  11. Will be in the same position myself soon. I understand that there are two requirements 1) The airline's and 2) Any transit Country. Passenger Locator Form is still required as at this time.
  12. OP wants a traditional 'wireless set'. Something like a large piece of furniture which lights up and produces a distinctive smell when in use.
  13. Needed a full respray of my 1995 Mighty X. Mrs obtained a quote of 17,000 baht. Finally got it done via a second hand car dealer who is also a friend for 11,000. Time to call in a favour, if the vehicles aren't new or cherished and you go about it the right way you could reduce your outlay considerably.
  14. Nice to read this. I wish I still had a Mother to go to visit. Spring actually is my favourite season in the UK.
  15. In the same situation myself. Need to return to UK in around 3-4 weeks time. Now easy to enter UK and hoping that it won't be too long before Thailand relax their requirements too.
  16. Most helpful, many thanks. Just had a quick look. I want to phone United Kingdom from Thailand. With FreeVoipDeal do you have to phone from one of the listed Countries considered to be 'EU' in order to get the free calling?
  17. Agree, most economical. I don't cut my own hair (what's remaining) or shave either. Barber is also a family friend so continued to enjoy 'clandestine' service even when it wasn't allowed. For 150 baht (including tip) it's a bargain and helps the economy. I have to go elsewhere for manicure and pedicure but those too are absolutely affordable.
  18. Everybody has their own set of 'standards'. Not only foreigner's either. My Thai Mrs thinks it's acceptable to attach tip money to paperwork, march to the head of the queue and hand it over the glass screens. Disrespectful to everyone else who is awaiting their turn. That makes me squirm with embarrassment.
  19. Great news and good to be so positive too! 15,000 is what you would expect to pay for a 12 months extension. But maybe that's not the agent profiteering?
  20. Maybe try another agent? Is there any possibility of obtaining a longer term extension than the 60 day Covid?
  21. Agree! Was referring to Pattaya and pre-Covid times. Information came 'from the horses mouth' i.e. Visa Agent. Majority of customers for retirement visas and extensions were Brits living (or rather surviving) on UK State Pensions.
  22. Quite normal for Bangkok Bank. They insisted I purchased 'one-off' 12 months accident insurance from them. Cost 3,000 baht. It did include cover for moto accidents up to age 65. Didn't make any claim during the 12 months period though. No requirement to renew.
