Under the Trump administration. A bankruptcy lawyer. He got the position because of his support, monetary support for Trump. He bought the position, just like Betsy Devos bought hers. Donald, Show me the money, Trump. And that from the bastion of the free press; The New York Post. Still, the best you can throw against a wall Cut & Paste today so ....

It's just a stack of bricks .... Still I find it sad, as I have fond memories of the place. Two numb buttcheeks watching LOTR Fellowship of the ring & The Score among others, way back when. I believe the last movie I watched their was The Dark Night Rises. All Things Must Pass

British woman injured by boat propeller on Similan Islands

We all love Karen's, and they are a great excuse. However Thailand has a history of prop chopping snorkelers & divers off of different islands. -
British woman injured by boat propeller on Similan Islands
Dcheech replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
And they had an accident on Tuesday. Yeesh. These prop chop accidents used to happen (maybe they still do) off Koh Tao a decade back. They were overshadowed by other untoward events on that island. No idea why they can't mark off an area with buoys so no boats go in the area where there are snorkelers or divers but that seems problematic. -

Putin rues the decision not to invade when Donnie was in office, everyday. He could have had the Ukraine handed to him on a platter, complete with a destroyed NATO for dessert. Those what ifs will kill ya. Fun breaking news, Bob Woodward reported Donald Trump had talked to Putin. He was asked point blank and did not deny, just a sidestep saying it would have been a smart thing to do. So yep, after the denials by right wing sycophant's, Donald did it ... but you knew that was going to be true. It's in his nature. A congenital criminal, just like a leopard, can't change his spots. -
Thailand Eyes Big Concert Deals to Boost Tourism Appeal

Dare we say ... A Concert Hub?! -
The Republicans have been headed this direction since the mid 90's . The last boss I had before heading OS had tickets for Newt. I remember the morning he excitedly told us that. No one knew what he was talking about. We thought it was some grunge band. Nope it was Newt Gingrich on tour. Almost thirty years later and here we are. As T&G posts above, its all the fault of the Dems/Libs. That was the same thing that Newt was saying back in the 90's. Always the lies to justify their madness. Tonight have an hour long Doc queued up on the original Fascist. Another 'tough guy' like Donald ... what could go wrong?

if in CM, and actually venture out of you box, away from your computer, enough clues to locate that cafe Reuben in the post. -------- However, I am unaware of any such cafe or Reuben sandwich - nor would I be disposed to discuss such a Reuben if it in fact did exist.
-
No, I do not send food back, or, in this case, take it back. My go to western comfort food is a Reuben. One of the few places in town that make it turned out this for a take away order between last Xmas & New Years. Two pieces of toasted rye cut in half, no butter, no cheese or sauerkraut or TI dressing - nothing - just bread & partially burnt pastrami. Looked like it had been stir fried in a skillet. That was it. They had also upped their price a hundred baht to 375B. I have had decent Reubens there in the past and it wasn't the price. I was back home before I opened it up. Eff me I cannot recall an order this bad of Thai or western food. All I did, could do, was put it on the verboten list. Maybe a new cook, and they have decent baked goods, but never again. They lost more than one customer. A couple friends & I meet for coffee & breakfast at different places once a week. Used to have this place on the rotation; coffee & huevos rancheros. Which was good, BTW, but ... nevermore. Defamation laws prevent me from naming the restaurant.

First news anywhere of a "high level US diplomatic push" with Thailand, What with it being election year in the US. War in the middle east, war in the Ukraine, problems with the EU elections, and of course Taiwan & China. China making some belligerent moves last week against the Vietnamese & Philippines. This ranks where? The bottom ten?! US Thai relations went south after the 1997 Thai economic implosion. A decade later the Chinese moved in as Thailand's new sugar daddy. No contest, as the US still had a bad taste from the post 97 Thai shenanigans, declined to make it a contest. As for the ambassadors statement, that is what ambassadors do, whether from the US or Albania.

If one is/was not able to get an online appointment, can one turn up at 830 with TM7, passport page copies, bank letters etc. etc. and join the scrum? Is that still possible, or do you need to arrive earlier like the bad old days?

Big bike forced off road by car on Bangkok highway - video
Dcheech replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Splitting Lanes?! Is that a 'western thing'? This is Thailand, cars & trucks routinely split lanes, half in one lane, half in another, It is just Thai driving and BTW Songtaews up here are expert doing it as they block traffic in both lanes and enjoy doing it. I would be surprised, no shocked, if I do not see someone, private car, truck or a Songtaew doing it today. However it is an expat tradition to blame the victim ... in this case the cyclist. Just another clueless driver, or did it deliberately, another fun fact of the Thai roads. -
Harris Voices Outrage in Interview with Howard Stern
Dcheech replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Pretending to care about homeless, while mewling about the Ukraine? Trump, Bush & Republicans in general, only economic policy for the last twenty years is to give tax cuts to the wealthy. The last people Republicans care about are homeless, low or middle income. Not that you would really care what happens away from the Volga. -

It doesn't matter what you believe. It matters what the American people believe. The Harris campaign has an ad out in record time on the covid tests he sent to Vladimir Putin, when covid tests were basically unavailable to Americans. The ad also details his close ties to Putin. No denials about that. They are denying those phone conversations, as they should be. This will be looked at to see if it a violation of the Logan act. Bob Woodwards book will be out next week, a good read for the final month of the campaign. -

Lot more outrage, if you can call it that anymore, to come. Bob Woodward's new book has Trump chatting secretly to Putin, at least seven times & sending him wuhan flu test gear, at the height of the pandemic. Trump is denying the calls, at least, no comment regarding the Putin gift. Yet while he denies, no threats made about legal action against Mr. Woodward. Hmmmm As Donald Trump is a documented, prolific, congenital, liar, who will believe his denials?! -
Thailand's Cashless Leap: Ahead of the Asean Pack by 2028
Dcheech replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If we did not shop at the local Thai markets for food and whatnot, 90 per cent of our monthly purchases could be made by scan-jie or bank transfers. Local produce vendors rarely have Q codes still ... our roadside motorcycle shop does have a Q code scan-jie option. Rather impressed when I found that out. Still pulling out a bunch of bills from the ATM also acts as a monthly budget, you have a visual of how much money you have left and what you have spent. For us 'right brain' types, this is a good thing.
