Tak Bai Massacre Case Dismissed as Statute of Limitations Expires
Dcheech replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
They wanted a headline, and an appearance they were doing something about 78 people who were deliberately killed. They could have brought this case anytime in the last twenty year, but no. Now they can say .... We Tried, but time ran out. The real question; who were they trying to convince they were doing something? -
1) I was specifically concerned, I would be forced to make another deposit, chunk it in the Bank passbook, then make a copy of it, and bring that on the next day when I had my appointment. It was the person at the outside window next to me, who was in a panic about having to get a new Bank letter regarding his balance. The one that you can do in ten minutes or so, at the bank. Truthfully, I do not know how long it is good for but he seemed convinced that was his last day. However, and what I thought pertinent; the check in person at the outside kiosk, stated, ‘if you are pushed over onto the next day, the date he writes on your TM7, is what they go by. Any letter, copy, bank transaction, etc. that is valid on that date, is valid the next day’. 2) I too have always brought a rental agreement. That said I was told I do not need it four different times and it was taken out of my document stack three times. Why I would reinsert the rental agreement document into the stack after being repeatedly told, first by the help assistant, twice by people in the outside kiosk, day one & two, and finally inside at the extension desk, does require an explanation. I have a high degree of distrust about what they say and do at Chiang Mai immigration. That because of personal experience. I just kept putting it back in my stack. As I stated above, they say now you do not need it and it was pulled. Still, while I mention what was told to me, I will bring a copy next year. I’m just repeating here, for general info, what was said Oct. 17 & 18 of this year. Again I have zero trust in CM IO. 3) Please excuse the high degree of cynicism. Agents, indeed, do not need to use the online appointment system. However, if agents make it more difficult to get an online appointment, this may very well increase their own business.

Thanks to posters above. I walked in a week back, it was a four day week. I was shunted over to the next day, papers checked at the outside stall, they will write a date and ok you (on your tm7 front page) for the next day. With this you do NOT have to get a NEW Thai Bank letter statement of current balance, or make a deposit and then print out of bankbook last page again. Just turn up next day at 8 AM, put your papers in the tray outside and get in the que call to get a number, when it starts at 830. Then go inside. 30 tickets filled the morning slot. They do a 12 to 1 lunch break. The only real difference from last year; both the outside checkers, and inside, said, you did not need a rental (residence) agreement copy. They have wanted that in the past. TM30 supplanting that. Still until they state that explicitly, up 2 U. CM immigration has a reputation for asking for that copy you do not have. Easily three quarters of the people, did not have an appointment made by the online system, likely more. There is a current OP on a local CM Facebook site, complaining about the online appointment system, and how nobody is getting one. I'm thinking agents are getting them, but who knows.

Does your Thai wife keep you on a short leash?
Dcheech replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Marriage and Divorce
This seems to be a popular notion here on Thaivisa, uh, er, AN. Act Like A Man! or she will romp all over you. I'm sure it happens, you know, to wussy boys who marry bar girls. Still lots of Thai women appreciate westerners as mates because, among other reasons, they do not belt seven bells a heck out of them, or move karaoke singers into the house, and kick them out, after literally kicking them. Both of which happened to some Thai women I know. I'm sure this is not what you mean, but for some, western airheads, it needs to be stated explicitly. -
Gotta quit posting by phone - I don't see the complete post. I saw a film there in 03 ? Only ones I can recall are Return of the King, or Terminator from that year which does not seem like movies that theater would have, but yeah, been there done that. You caught it on its last legs, it had to be closed soon after 05.

There was a cinema across Huey Kaew RD from the entrance of Kad Suan Kaew. That was donkeys years ago. The area was rebuilt and cinema was taken out 20 years back ??

Americans say goodbye to more brands - Surprising Closures
Dcheech replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That is because you are a right winger and part of that food chain. Bartell's, mentioned above, was blamed by our resident state right wingnuts as having torn up shelves with stock gone, on, your guessed it, CRIME. Shop lifting squads you see on FOX news. Turns out RITE AID who bought BARTELL's would not stock all of what Bartell's used to carry. They had not removed the shelves. Halved the staff, mainly checkers were left. So it did look like junk six months to a year before they closed them up, as they went into that final death spiral. Nothing to do with crime or the "Ferguson effect", no shoppers were stopped then shot to death by police. Rest easy gentle poster Mom, alive & pretty spry in her 90's, never had to fight off muggers or smash & grab thieves; Shock, Gasp Horror. She is however plenty PO'd with Rite Aid. -

'Are you surprised?' No, I knew this would be a crap vid with 90 % crap stores I don’t know or do not care about. What I did care about …. Macys, only because it bought Bon Marche. far less Best Buy, still a brick & mortar to get a few audio or tech related products. Rite Aid deserves a curse, if only because they bought a beloved local store; Bartell's, and then immediately went tits up. I guess I should be happy the local owners got some cash from them. Applebee’s, Red Lobster, Outback, I do not even know if they were out in our area. I would never have eaten at them if they were anyway. -
Under the Trump administration. A bankruptcy lawyer. He got the position because of his support, monetary support for Trump. He bought the position, just like Betsy Devos bought hers. Donald, Show me the money, Trump. And that from the bastion of the free press; The New York Post. Still, the best you can throw against a wall Cut & Paste today so ....

It's just a stack of bricks .... Still I find it sad, as I have fond memories of the place. Two numb buttcheeks watching LOTR Fellowship of the ring & The Score among others, way back when. I believe the last movie I watched their was The Dark Night Rises. All Things Must Pass

British woman injured by boat propeller on Similan Islands

We all love Karen's, and they are a great excuse. However Thailand has a history of prop chopping snorkelers & divers off of different islands. -
British woman injured by boat propeller on Similan Islands
Dcheech replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
And they had an accident on Tuesday. Yeesh. These prop chop accidents used to happen (maybe they still do) off Koh Tao a decade back. They were overshadowed by other untoward events on that island. No idea why they can't mark off an area with buoys so no boats go in the area where there are snorkelers or divers but that seems problematic. -
A vote for Trump is a vote for Putin / Orban / Kim Jong Un

Putin rues the decision not to invade when Donnie was in office, everyday. He could have had the Ukraine handed to him on a platter, complete with a destroyed NATO for dessert. Those what ifs will kill ya. Fun breaking news, Bob Woodward reported Donald Trump had talked to Putin. He was asked point blank and did not deny, just a sidestep saying it would have been a smart thing to do. So yep, after the denials by right wing sycophant's, Donald did it ... but you knew that was going to be true. It's in his nature. A congenital criminal, just like a leopard, can't change his spots. -
Thailand Eyes Big Concert Deals to Boost Tourism Appeal

Dare we say ... A Concert Hub?! -
The Republicans have been headed this direction since the mid 90's . The last boss I had before heading OS had tickets for Newt. I remember the morning he excitedly told us that. No one knew what he was talking about. We thought it was some grunge band. Nope it was Newt Gingrich on tour. Almost thirty years later and here we are. As T&G posts above, its all the fault of the Dems/Libs. That was the same thing that Newt was saying back in the 90's. Always the lies to justify their madness. Tonight have an hour long Doc queued up on the original Fascist. Another 'tough guy' like Donald ... what could go wrong?

if in CM, and actually venture out of you box, away from your computer, enough clues to locate that cafe Reuben in the post. -------- However, I am unaware of any such cafe or Reuben sandwich - nor would I be disposed to discuss such a Reuben if it in fact did exist.
-
No, I do not send food back, or, in this case, take it back. My go to western comfort food is a Reuben. One of the few places in town that make it turned out this for a take away order between last Xmas & New Years. Two pieces of toasted rye cut in half, no butter, no cheese or sauerkraut or TI dressing - nothing - just bread & partially burnt pastrami. Looked like it had been stir fried in a skillet. That was it. They had also upped their price a hundred baht to 375B. I have had decent Reubens there in the past and it wasn't the price. I was back home before I opened it up. Eff me I cannot recall an order this bad of Thai or western food. All I did, could do, was put it on the verboten list. Maybe a new cook, and they have decent baked goods, but never again. They lost more than one customer. A couple friends & I meet for coffee & breakfast at different places once a week. Used to have this place on the rotation; coffee & huevos rancheros. Which was good, BTW, but ... nevermore. Defamation laws prevent me from naming the restaurant.

First news anywhere of a "high level US diplomatic push" with Thailand, What with it being election year in the US. War in the middle east, war in the Ukraine, problems with the EU elections, and of course Taiwan & China. China making some belligerent moves last week against the Vietnamese & Philippines. This ranks where? The bottom ten?! US Thai relations went south after the 1997 Thai economic implosion. A decade later the Chinese moved in as Thailand's new sugar daddy. No contest, as the US still had a bad taste from the post 97 Thai shenanigans, declined to make it a contest. As for the ambassadors statement, that is what ambassadors do, whether from the US or Albania.
