Thai Airways Ban Power Bank Charging on Flights from March 1
JackGats replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Airports should be equipped with charging facilities that work. That would take away much of the need for powerbanks. -
Tell me then how calling my airline's or my foreign bank's customer service is "decided and solved" already. I'll now have to place expensive SIM card calls to customer services that claim "all our phone lines are unusually busy" all day every day. Of course such customer services are themselves part of the problem, but up to now the waiting game could be taken care of by Skype.

If you were going to be born today?

As long as I'm born a handsome boy or a pretty girl, I'm fine, never mind the country. -
Ukrainian forces lose access to Maxar satellite
JackGats replied to simple1's topic in Political Soapbox
Good attitude. Then next time let the Europeans buy cheap Russian gas and not your gas, and refrain from blowing up the gas pipeline of another NATO country. -
Alas, you can now replace "white woman" with "Thai woman" and the above sentence holds.

Ukraine’s Fate Was Sealed Long Before Aid Was Cut
JackGats replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The US, not the EU, wanted this war. The EU had everything to lose, starting with cheap gas. The US got this war started, then walked out in the middle of it. If it can be proven the Ukranians were behind the blowing up of the German pipeline, the EU should let Ukraine fall IMO. It is not impossible however for the US to have been the instigator (even if some Ukranians planted the explosives). -
Buffet is well-known in the investing community outside the US. No later than today morning I had a buffet breakfast at the hotel.

That's the "people's party" for you. Campaigning against sex, with a bit of racism ("black women") and discrimination ("foreign ownership") thrown in.- 71 replies

Pai's Big Bust: 7 Tourists Nabbed for Public Cannabis Use

"I can't stand the smell/smoke" sure sounds less bigoted than "I can't stand people getting high". -

US Halts Military Aid to Ukraine Amid Push for Peace Talks

Loads of new useless apps out there and counting, and one of the really essential ones is going to disappear. I'm beginning to think the purpose of new "technologies" is to screw people. I was relying on Skype to call the helpdesk of airlines in case of rebooking etc. Now I'll have to waste a fortune calling with my regular phone number, listening to "all our lines are busy at the moment ..." for minutes on end. This is what ChatGPT tells me about calling with an AIS number: "AIS 003 Service: This premium-quality service offers rates starting at 3 Baht per minute for calls to over 230 destinations. To use this service, dial 003 followed by the country code, area code, and the destination number" I don't like the phrase "starting at".

Thailand Ramps Up Vaping Crackdown Amid Rising Concerns
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Is a dry herb vaporizer a vaping instrument? Is this about the cartriges or about the tools? I had a good mind to buy a "dry herb vaporizer" next week in Pattaya as I don't trust what they put into the disposable vaping pens. -
Thailand Warns of New 'Super Meth' Pill Entering Market
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Quote: "regular methamphetamine laced with crystal meth". Really? Crystal meth IS methamphetamine. So the new threatening drug is meth laced with itself. Great news here. -
Indeed they're going to be ousted, until the election after the next that is. Right-left-right-left-right ... The binary trap.

Except the non-AfD parties will keep refusing to build coalition with the AfD. Instead, they will go on piecing together weak minority left-laden governments exluding the AfD. This means that the left, although outnumbered in any election, remains de facto in power.

What you call "proof of address" can be a puny letter from the hotel you are staying in. It can even not be a letter, just a computer print out from the hotel's list of guests will suffice in Thailand. Or it can be a TM 30 from your landlord. In order to open a bank account in most countries you will need a certificate from town hall or a utility bill. You don't get a utility bill on your name unless you live somewhere long time. Again, it depends on what you choose to call "proof of address". If your foreign bank is satisfied with a "certificate of residence" from IO, by all means go for it!

Tips for first time tourists, especially western teenage girls
JackGats replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in General Topics
Tourists can get a SIM card at the airport, although it may come out cheaper from the AIS or TRUE shop in Bangkok. No paying with QR in real time unless you have a Thai bank account I think, although means of payment like Google Wallet or Apple Pay should work but are less often offered by businesses. Thailand a very safe country relatively speaking, although women will like to be potential victims even in Thailand. Even when visiting the Vatican the wymmyns will want to be considered at risk of rape & assault. They wear their victimhood like a badge of honour. -
If I understand right, in the online filing you don't provide supporting documents. You file what you know to be true and keep the supporting document at the ready in case they call you to come and explain. My understanding is also that on the online form you don't mention any amount you know to be tax exempt in Thailand. For example my remittances are exempt as per LTR visa. I didn't mention them on the form. I only mentioned my Thai dividends together with the withholding tax. If they call me to check whether I didn't conceal any remittances, I'll show them my LTR visa and the Royal Decree.
