Accused of stealing a Massage girls phone..
scorecard replied to Don Giovanni's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
OIC, you mean that rich people never ever steal anything. Thanks for the education. -
Vegemite still going strong. Some years back the salt level was reduced but overall still very delicious and enjoyed and still part of my breakfast routine (in Thailand) for breakfast about 5 days a week. Further every member of my Thai family* (in Chiang Mai) enjoy it on toast about 5 days every week. (*Thai son, son's Thai wife, 3 grand daughters and 1 grand son.) Also my Thai son is a good cook (Thai and international dishes). He makes a lot of different Thai soups, a full tablespoon of Vegemite added to every pot of soup.

Perhaps this poster is from the gang who believe there's only 2 countries in the world; USA and China. So ignorant. Did the poster never see eve one of the many news items in the last 2+ years mentioning the numerous massive ship loads of grain (incl, wheat) exported from the Ukraine?

Are they? Any facts / data to share?

Luxury Furniture Fuss as State Audit Office Faces Backlash
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Not only in Thailand. I recall an oil giant deciding on a new very high (from memory about 30 floors) regional HQ in a big western city. The primary design approach was a round building, with lots of small and medium size rooms all totally round. When the building was well underway furniture needs were on the agenda and it was then realized that standard square / rectangular tables, desks and whatever would ruin the 'roundness' approach. So individual furniture pieces were ordered to suit each round room (all rooms) all with round sides / round edges etc. The additional cost was millions and delayed 'move in' by a couple of years meaning that the lease on the existing leased building had to be renegotiated at great cost because the owner had already signed a lease for a new tenant who was all ready to move in. -

You're so sad, no need for that comment. What's got into you? In the past your comments were so balanced. -
Luxury Furniture Fuss as State Audit Office Faces Backlash

For Thais the paramount point is impressing other people with the level of luxury and design and cost compared to other ministries and other countries. . Even though 99% of the folks who will see these chairs are the same people at every meeting. I went to many meetings of one ministry (which has a big global impact), the furniture was replaced several times, obviously very very expensive, same for the crockery, all part of trying to impress people. Plus a famous Thai pastry chef was an employee and made cakes, pastries for every meeting and personally served them to the seniors in every meeting. Same for coffee, a famous coffee roaster on staff and at every meeting; Thai man who spoke good English. As folks arrived he asked them if they liked fresh coffee then asked questions about their favorite coffee. I answered 'I like hilltribe coffee'. He froze. The Head of the ministry changed and a Tai man who had worked abroad in the same industry was appointed to the position. He shook things up; he issued and instruction that furniture was not to e changed or swapped for 10 years, he cancelled the pastry chef and the coffee expert. Then he discovered the cakes/pastries were being bought daily by a team of 4 staff, all bought from a nearby famous Thai restaurant / bakery. The team of 4 was a leader who chosen because she came from a famous Thai family. CEO cancelled that and instructed that a junior staff member go alone to the bakery and buy standard cakes / pastries. In another post I will share how the new CEO shook up / reorganized the existing HR department. -

No real need, this has been confirmed many times before. Different culture different attitudes and laws. In some parts of Australia it's illegal to drive any vehicle wearing thongs (on your feet). -
I probably should have paid the money.

Wow, less than important, I never timed these calls, why would I? I mean within perhaps a few seconds to 20 seconds. No further comment from me on this. Bye. -

Another angle - I wouldn't just pay the 800 and leave the bill for the balance of 900 unpaid. Why? at that moment in time and later for quite a while my son would have been horrified about how he and me would be badmouthed. I wouldn't put my son in that situation. Perhaps I would have spoken privately / quietly to the loud ordered an Ice cream cake which was my son's choice, and mentioned 'now I'm not sure how to handle the bill for a lot of extra ice cream which was not needed because a full cake was already ordered and did arrive'. -
I probably should have paid the money.

'tight', 'stingy', 'not good'... You're surprised about that? Do you know as a fact who paid the 900Baht balance - the cost of the sundaes? - was it the loud mouth woman - did she pay the whole 1,700Baht? - Or did all the kids pay for their own sundaes, in total 900Baht? -

Yes, 3:04 am Sundays. I've called them from Thailand on the toll free number several times. I called at the time I realized I needed to clarify something. Call always answered in less than a minute. Always good listener, clear answer, always polite. They don't bite. Give it a try but don't call with a negative attitude. -
Perhaps email to [email protected] and ask for an instruction. I've asked many questions on this email address, always got a clear answer in English, within about 3 to 5 days.
