  1. My error, sorry.
  2. Have you actually been to the labour complaints office of the Labour ministry at Din Daeng? It's on the ground floor. If you appraoch the building the signs about 'COMPLAINTS OFFICE' or perhaps it's called 'DISPUTES OFFICE' or similar are very big. You can't miss it. The staff are actually good listeners, friendly and welcoming and many speak excelllent English. They have helped many people. They don't discriminate against foreigners.
  3. My small hotel in Ram. Rd., used to have a US professsor come regularly along with his US wife. Just before leaving the US she always transferred US500- from herself to herself via Western Union. Husband had given up trying to get her to change to better/cheaper methods of international transfer. Hotel offered to accept transfers to the hotel owners a/c and pass it back to her on arrival no charges. She trusted nobody. But the twist, husband went to 2 unis nearby to teach most days, she stayed in her hotel room all day, on all their trips she spent a tiny amount of money, because she trusted nobody/everything poor quality etc. Most of the $500 was transferred back to the US, by Western Union, the day they departed Bkk.
  4. Don't know if it's standard however in my case my permission is needed to sell the land until I die. If son passes away his will states ownership passes equally to his 3 kids but usufruct remains in place. My son specicically wanted this, he has serious concerns if he passes his in laws will try to pressure his kids to sell the land and house and then demand/harrass his wife and kids to share with them a large % of the proceeds. And having observed their attitudes, morals, behaviors* for many years I very much support my son's actions to keep me in control of the land for the foreseeable future. *Another young family member (Aayoung achiever) bought a new Honda sedan, his older scaly cousins appeared, took the keys and drove away. Police caught up with them, they claimed they were entitled because they are older.
  5. Sure. You need to also recognize that any country needs to have a range of visas connected to a suitable structure and with boundaries. Rightly or wrongly Thailand isn't a multi-cultural 'everybody is welcome' country (many others the same). It was never a situation where large numbers of foreingers are welcome and there's plenty of Thais who aren't all that keen on mass 'invasion'. Also Thailand has never been colonised and exposed to 'foreign' thinking. One example; I've worked (now retired) in Thailand for close to 35 years. 25 years ago I got Thai PR. Like most farang I often/occasionally get asked 'are you on holiday in Thailand?' My response is 'no I live here', or 'Thailand is my home for 30+ years', or Thailand is my home 30+ years and I am a Permanent Resident, PR of Thailand' (probably with some explanation that PR means the foreigner has a document saying they can stay until they die). This has many times produced a comment/repeat comment 'Yes, but when are you going home?' In my extended Thai family I have one old 'aunty' (speaks some English) she's well aware I have PR for lifetime, has said to me many times 'I've asked you before 'When are you going home? but you never answer me'. She has some reservations that I will teach bad ideas to my Thai grandchildren, 'foreigners are not polite, they don't respect their king/president/parents'. If you ask Thais 'how do foreigners who live/work in Thailand fit into the picture you will probably get the answer 'They/you are visitors'. My point (I hope you can see), is that many Thai folks want a well structured approach to how/how many foreigners can stay, short term, in Thailand.
  6. Good review, would you please share a little detail of the skin conditions she treated. Ignore if this question is too personal.
  7. from CharlieH "...Many will not be able to do it ...". Part of the situation is that although nurses (and other) uniforms are a bit different they are commonly made therefore patterns already exist. Where I'm leading is that from your description you're lookig for a person/business that can innovate a pattern for something (garment) which is way outside of normal/standard/known patterns. A 'heads up'. Please be aware that creativity/innovation are not typical strengths here and the ROTE learning nature of Thai education impedes creativity and innovation. BUT there must be at least 1 or 2 'out of the box/experienced' Thai folks (maybe even an experienced resident foreigner) who can help you to get started. Keep seaching and good luck. CharlieH are you good at design/with the scissors?
  8. "... show it to a doctor, not a nurse ..." Good point, way too many folks in this country (and others) think they are doctors, they're not. It's always possible that a qualified GP doesn't have enough knowledge to fully understand/diagnose the problem. In other words the patient needs to see a qualified specialist.
  9. I've also transferred large amounts Oz to K Bank. I use OFX (previously Ozforex) affiliated with Macquarie Bank (but not necessary to have an account with Macquarie). Very security conscious, low charge (last time I looked AUD15 per transfer). Into K Bank a/c quickly but occasionally large amounts will be noticed (using any transfer agency / any Thai bank) by Thai Money Laundering Office. If this happens expect a 24 hr, perhaps 48 hr delay to be available to draw on. I had this happen once, perhaps 8 years ago. They asked 'what's the money for?' I responded 'to buy a condo in Bkk'. No further discussion.
  10. Recent good experience with this, on Singapore Airlines: Sydney to Singapore, then change the flight at Changi for Singapore to Bkk. Scheduled time on the ground 25 minutes. - Pleasant experience getting off the a'craft on arrival at Changi (hostesses had everything well prepared, passengers well organized. - Several golf carts waiting very close to aircraft door, loaded and moved off quickly. Ground staff very helpful and pleasant. - I'm in a wheelchair, I was asked to wait until 90% of passengers alighted the aircraft. - Out and into the waiting S'pore wheelchair, 2 attendants, one taking care of cabin bags etc., the other well experienced at keeping the ride smooth and fast. - Passengers asked politely to not engage in shopping etc. With apologies. - On arrival at next gate all very well organized, extra gate staff on hand. Extra staff on board temporarily helping to get cabin bags into overhead lockers, getting passengers seated and buckled up and helping with any last minute issues. - Doors closed, aircraft moved away right on 25 minutes. - Arrived at Suvarnabhumi 10 minutes early. - I had 4 check-in items (incl 2 wheelchairs), all arrived in Bkk on my flight, all in good order.
  11. I've had 2 'worst experiences', both as bad as each other: 1. Thai International. 2. American Airlines.
  12. Re your last paragraph. Yep, 'been there done that'. My Thai daughter in law has a loudmouth know all middle aged full on lady boy older brother. He's uneducated but he knows everything including the law in Thailand, Germany and Australia. He's demanded that my son demand big money from me, so he can buy a luxury car and more. He tells everybody that all people from Australia, regardless of their location and regardless of age (adults and children), gender, working, not working, retired etc., get a very big monthly allowance (he claims it's 50,000Baht a month) and claims I am totally stingy to not give him money (never given him 1 Baht and never will). Some years back he called the Oz embassy in Bkk and asked them to give him a document proving that all Austraians get 50,000Baht a month. They told him it's not true, then he told my son 'the Australian Embassy tells lies'.
  13. Ours was set up by our family lawyer who was many years ago my MBA student and I coached her to get her Ph.D. No charge. To be honest I have no idea of cost, shouldn't be too much it's all very mechanical and straight forward. Keep in mind that (as with many things in Thailand) the local land title head may have a personal view on this subject and only allow it to be done within his personal beliefs. Very possible and not much you can do to fight this.
  14. And should get, from the Amphur office, a separate document called a 'Certificate of Change of Name'.
  15. I have one on my son's land (but the intent is so that son's scaly greedy in laws can't twist son's wife to sell the land if my son passes away). Our usufruct has no stated expiry date, it does automatically cancel upon my death. Land cannot be sold or sub-divided or developed (even by my son) without my written approval which must be done at the land office where the chanut and usufruct are based. This must a written/sined/witnessed addendum to the existing usufruct document already attached to the actual chanut document (land title document).
  16. Maybe 15 years ago a foreigner (not luk krueng) who had gained Thai citizenship was appointed to the main Thai Inter. BOD. Many other BOD members protested 'not Thai' as required by the regulations. He was removed very quickly.
  17. Well perhaps the aid should be coordinated by a neutral specific body but supported by taxpayers funds, and the funds authorized by a vote of the full parliament?
  18. Or she and trump, or she and marjorie taylor green, or she and eric trump, all as stupid and dangerous as each other.
  19. Yes It's possible to change the family (namsakoon) of a Thai person to a typically Western family name. My experience: My adult adopted son, 21 year old. He wanted to change his family name to mine. I was happy with his request. - Wrote a letter to Ministry of Interior asking for permission to change his family name name to my family name. - Permission to change came back within about 1 week. - Took permission letter to local amphur office, 30 minutes later new ID card, name changed in Tabien Baan book. - Polite lady asked him if he had a passport. He did, she reminded hime to go quickly and get a new passport. All done no pain whatever. Different example but proves name change is possible and painless.
  20. XE midrate 17:00 22 Oct 2022 = 24.17Baht to 1AUD.
  21. Thanks for being as negative as possible, how kind of you. Interesting that you don't know my family but you know what they will do. I guess you are clairvoyant. Your actually wrong on all points. My Thai son and his Thai wife both have good education and they are very focused on good education for their kids and every Baht spent brings value to that cause. No they won't just go ahead and do a traditional ation. In fact some time ago some outer family members mentioned to my son they wanted him to organize an expensive cremation and party when I go to make the whole family look rich/important. With me present (I speak plenty of Thai) he told them that wouldn't be happening and why (every Baht to be saved for education of my grandchildren). They all backed off. My son is no pushover, he (and his wife) will respect our discussions, I have no doubt about that.
  22. Not really, Your a brave man, I got lost after your first 10 words. Just me, but I can now spell computer and windows.
