  1. Have to disagree with you there Chivas. One of the reasons I like my Kindle is that, when sat by the pool, the Kindle is easier to read, less likely to get affected by sunlight and heat and offers me a choice of as many books as I can load on it. Poolside reading is a big thing for me too. Mind you, in agreement with you, I don't see too many other people doing the same....maybe I'm just a trendsetter?
  2. From the OP, this sentence is somewhat confusing as, for several years there has been no requirement for a TM6 when arriving by air. Perhaps it should say "The requirement for the form will still not apply to international visitors who arrive by air."
  3. Having lived in Houston in the eighties, I agree. The thing with people from the southern USA (in my personal experience) is that they tend to be unaware of foreign events, compared, that is, to those from "above the line". BUT.... I found people from the South (those damn rednecks 😆 ) to be very courteous and gregarious. Before anyone jumps at me for generalising, these are just my personal experiences!
  4. No - wouldn't work...they've got no bottle 🙄 OK
  5. To be fair, whilst the promotion in Billabong is ridiculous, it's actually quite fair IF you plan on an even number of drinks! It works out as "Pay almost the price of 2 beers and get 2 beers" so a small saving. If you have an odd number of drinks though, it's expensive - THAT'S where they catch the unwary. Triangle bar ("Pothole") operates a similar system.
  6. They still do the pub crawls but from the Buzzin' lounge in "Pothole"
  7. Goodness - And I thought I was an anorak! Still, if it keeps you "SMILING" knock yourself out. 😆 More seriously, it took me a little while to get used to reading books on my Kindle - now I prefer it to a paperback (which was my former choice) for several reasons. May I suggest persevering? You know it makes sense Rodney 😋
  8. Good points there SM. I haven't been to Phuket in a long time (and will probably never return) but the Russians I've met in Pattaya seem to be boorish, rude, with few social graces. However, I've worked with Russians in the UK and they were charming, well- educated people. I guess, like my fellow Brits, there are Russians and there are Russians. 🤔
  9. I can just see the 2 buns, ready for the burger! 😎
  10. Brilliant...classic Spike Milligan as "<deleted> Paddy" and Eric Sykes in happier non-woke days. 👍😆😆
  11. Agree entirely. 👍 If one decides on a Kindle, go for the Paperwhite variant - you can read it in any light and the battery charge lasts for weeks! Also there are many books available on the various free sites. Finally, if you do opt for a Kindle, I recommend https://www.bookbub.com/ I signed up and get one email per week with very cheap book recommendations.
  12. Does seem strange - if they had a phone, there are plenty of mapping apps available to get one out of trouble.
  13. I used to know the owner of Pattaya Beach Books, which was, at one time, located above Tops on Klang / 2nd Road. Many years ago he was rightly worried about the number of people using eBooks increasing and thus reducing his business. Rightly so as it transpires. Having said that, I almost never buy a conventional book any more, preferring my eReader for convenience and cost. eBooks are generally cheaper than paper books, there are many free books online and, I can carry over 100 books when travelling. The cost of the eReader itself was very soon defrayed @roger101 Have you considered making the change? It worked for me.
  14. Lighten up. Why? The whole point of smoking bans on aircraft is for safety and consideration. My suggestion wold make her uncomfortable for a while and could do nothing but good (IMO) Smoking of any sort is very intrusive on people nearby and in an enclosed space.
  15. Quite agree, and yet, here we all are reading the clickbait. 🙄 I guess we're all strange too.... 😋
  16. Or perhaps the airline could ban her from flying with them, and circulate her details to other airlines? She's a dangerous, entitled idiot...a few long distance bus trips might give her time to reconsider.
  17. That took me about 30 seconds! 🤔 What a silly @rse I am 😆
  18. Your experience is, of course exactly that and as I don't live in Thailand, is probably wider ranging than mine even though I've been visiting for over 30 years - so be it. I think we both speak as we find. However PLEASE do not accuse me of being "woke" or "PC" - I despise both! ☹
  19. How will a fictional date work IF the OP is required to upload an air ticket that doesn't show the same dates? I'm possibly confused (!) but from memory, I wasn't required to enter travel dates but was required to state number of days and upload a ticket. This was also November 2023, London, Tourist Visa
  20. Agree...I left Pattaya last week, having timed my trip to avoid Songkran in its entirety! Sadly, there will be a hooligan element that will turn it into a war zone for a week, whatever the police may say. That element, will, sadly, almost certainly be led by foreigners who have no idea of the history of Songkran and just want to turn it into an excuse for drunken excess and stupidity! 🤬
  21. Spot on! 👍 I enjoy "sporting" with bar ladies and I also enjoy the company of apparently respectable women...I just try to remember with whom I'm interacting and attempt appropriate behaviour at all times And always remember that a man (or woman) has as many personalities as they have friends 🙄
  22. That's a very cynical POV. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you because it happens to be true in a great many cases of my acquaintance. Then again it's also a somewhat sweeping generalisation - I know 3 Anglo - Thai couples who are very happy: in one case the lady was never a "working gal" but in the other 2 the ladies were. Bottom line is people are people the world over; not everyone conforms to the "usual norms"....... thank goodness!
  23. Buying shirts one January in "Mike" shopping in Pattaya. Vendor wanted 400 per shirt. I offered 250, vendor said "last price 350" and then said "Nobody will sell for 250" so I moved on. Come April, (no customers) same shirts, same vendor happily took 260 per shirt . That's my sort of compromise. It's all about the timing
  24. Or a phone with fingerprint recognition, thus no passcode needed.
  25. Same in UK where Apple Pay and Google Wallet are the main online payment apps. Not a QR code in site. I use the latter in the supermarket because I have it and the supermarket's loyalty card on my phone so it actually IS quicker for me to scan my purchases as I shop then just pay it with one touch of the phone. However, I actually prefer cash in other situations. In Thailand I will use cash as long as I can or in the unlikely event of my making a big purchase , I'd use my credit card.
