  1. Definition of going for a burn-up? 🤔
  2. I realise you're discussing US banks, but in the UK, most banks will need to send an SMS to a UK number in order for you to log on. Some of them used to send an email but no more. When asked they usually mutter something about it being a Financial Conduct Authority rule but I'm not entirely sure they're correct.
  3. The uncharitable might suggest that you look to see who really owns Mellow, and do they have a "tea pot"? 🙄
  4. Having just got a SETV from London (I'm Brit, living in UK), I recall one of the questions asked was "What nationality are you?" - obviously my passport proved that. Another was asking for "Document indicating current location" and I showed the proof of my UK residence. (Council Tax bill) I was also asked for Travel booking confirmation – I used my return ticket UK-Thailand-UK. You say that he has a ticket "flight from US to Thailand" but can he show himself leaving Thailand or is that a single ticket? You did say that he's been asked to show "onward flights to another destination" That's usual for a tourist visa - they want to know you're going to leave after the permission to stay expires, I imagine. This is probably what has tripped the applicant up. If it was me, I would reply to the email explaining the situation - can he show a "Document indicating current location" do you know? US hotel bill perhaps. Another approach might be to waste the 30 UKP and apply again to the appropriate Thai Consulate in USA, who might of course deny it for similar reasons! His last resort, as others have said, is to enter without a visa, get 30 days and either extend it or do a border hop. I think to do that, he'll need to show the airline a booking leaving Thailand within 30 days. All a right PITA!
  5. The law was changed after the coup. You could buy alcohol from super markets between the magic hours if it was more than a certain amount. The change caught me out. Very annoying... Thanks (and to @Bangkok Barry ) Still doesn't explain the anomalies... The situation as it is doesn't bother me especially as I can spend the time in a bar of my choice, just another example of "TIT" 🙄
  6. Perhaps I misunderstand this but I've frequently gone into bars of varying sorts in Pattaya in the afternoons and never been refused service of a beer or liquor drink. There's no attempt to hide the service - some of the bars are open air or right on the beach road. Some of them also sell food so could be defined as restaurants. I've equally frequently seen the fridges in 7/11 etc locked closed in the afternoons. So is it just restaurants who are supposed not to sell alcohol between 2 and 5pm? Not all these places can be openly flouting the law even in Pattaya...can they? Also, the article says it's a 50-year old law, but I'm tolerably certain that I recall it being introduced in the eighties. Confused....me..... YES!
  7. That's brilliant. Not sure if it belongs in a "best jokes" thread, but thanks for posting it here for want of a better location. 👍
  8. is that Pattaya Beach Road then? 😎
  9. Cool. This is one of the few online communities where many of us will get that reference, Hawkeye. All a bit of a MASH-up really Maybe he should have been looking for a BJ from someone called Hotlips - sadly not even on his Radar 🙄
  10. Remember those days very fondly - my passport made an annual trip to East Yorkshire just before my "extended winter holiday" 🙄 and latterly it visited Wales - more than I've done 🤣
  11. And stop standing so close to each other!
  12. What a dummy 🤣
  13. And thus the question "died with Covid" or "died of" Covid resurfaces again. A question that, IMO was never answered satisfactorily and I'm guessing never will be.
  14. Cannot make any specific vendor recommendations but I'd head to Tukcom on Pattaya Tai. Good luck.
  15. I think our posts just crossed as we're effectively agreeing with each other! 😎
  16. Again, you're correct, except that this time last year (2023), all the documents needed for METV were also needed for SETV (I obtained one and kept my records) and, as I said, the London website implies that is still the case. And with respect, you referring to a SETV as a TV is slightly ambiguous too. TV could mean either. Yes, I know it's pedantic but that's how these misunderstandings occur, not helped by the Embassy website not being updated (as I also said)
  17. That is correct - I think @Toby1947 got his wires crossed between SETV and METV. The other problem is that the Embassy website does not always reflect the reality when you come to actually apply as it's not updated as often as it might be. Example, the London Embassy website for an SETV https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/page/tourist-single-entry-visa which was last updated July 2023, still states that Financial Evidence, Travel Records, and photo showing you holding your passport are still required. I had them all ready, but, as my link shows, (and as you said) they were not needed. That's why I posted and linked to my detailed SETV application which is current this month - whatever the Embassy site says, that takes precedence.
  18. If you are referring to a Single Entry Tourist Visa, you are INCORRECT! There is no 6 months anything. Please re-read my posts. If you are referring to any other sort of Visa, then I don't know.
  19. To clarify what I think you meant (?) Visa is usable for 90 days from the date of issue (Date of grant) Once entering Thailand one's duration of stay is maximum 60 days...note the use of days, not months - that's important, especially in a leap year! Yes, your days of arrival and departure are included in the 60 day total From my visa: See my post above for my link to a VERY recent experience as it has changed since early 2023
  20. You haven't searched that carefully have you? 🙄 I posted this on Monday - think you'll find it answers all 3 of your questions
  21. You're just Twisted....Bumbling along, Artfully Dodging the Fagin' truth 🙄 What the Dickens were you thinking?
  22. Was it? I didn't see that but it might mean that they're testing the plug-in with a view to restoring it permanently. I have no inside knowledge, but that's based on my previous experience with similar sites. If what you say is correct, it could at least illustrate that someone is doing something.
  23. Posting this on 8 Jan 2024 describing in full my successful application for a Tourist Visa from London. Used the official site https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ When I logged in it was apparent that the site has been modified somewhat from a year ago – it’s actually a little clearer and easier now, IMO, although perhaps I just got used to it last time. My account was still extant from 2023 and showed my previous application Items submitted as supporting documents: Files in PDF and JPG required as before. The numbers are the Question Numbers on the application web page itself: 1 Biodata page of Passport or Travel Document - pretty obvious – a JPG scan of my current passport 2 Photograph taken within the last six months. Used same photo as in passport despite it now being over a year old 3 Document indicating current location – used my Council Tax Bill covering 2023-2024 – PDF 4 Travel booking confirmation – used my return ticket – PDF 5 Proof of accommodation in Thailand – the hotel I’m booked into issues a Reservation Voucher - PDF ===================================================== Site then offers a Declaration with a prepopulated online “signature” – approved and captured as JPG for my records. Site shows an Online Confirmation containing passport details – checked carefully and captured as PDF for my records. Site then shows you Application details allowing you to correct any incorrect details. After submission, you’re prompted to go to the payment process which informs of the amount required (£30) Clicking “Pay Now” resulted in error message “Sorry, something is wrong with the server”. This was 1-1-24 approx. 11:15 GMT – logged out, logged in – same error. It’s Jan 1st 18:00 hours in Thailand, also the site had been down for maintenance over New Year, so likely either MFA or KBank are doing some sort of maintenance. 02-1-24 approx. 09:50 GMT– tried again using a pre-paid MasterCard – payment was declined but I know why (in hindsight) – used a standard UK Credit Card – payment accepted and correctly appeared on my card. You can also download a receipt PDF. Looking at the website, it showed “Pending Document Check” with the correct passport number in which state it remained until ……. 08-01-24 14:05 GMT I received an email with subject “e-Visa application Status: Approved” with the Visa as a PDF attachment. NOTE (and this is why I think it’s now easier than a year ago) Following were required in 2023, NOT required in 2024 1. Financial evidence 2. Confirmation of legal residence 3. A confirmation letter from employer, School, Self-assessment, Pension statement 4. Identity of the person inviting you to stay 5. Requirement to upload passport pages showing all travel records for the past 12 months 6. Picture of me holding passport

  24. Also to @Dan O Fair enough comments - I actually didn't consider your points. So rather than "can't happen", IF (repeat IF) the Government instructed the banks to withhold x% from every foreign deposit, the banks could, technically, do it. Having said that, the following uproar would be a total s**tstorm, but when did people's objections and / or common sense stop the authorities from imposing a ridiculous rule without first thinking it through? And, then, usually, backtracking on it! 🙄 I do agree with you both, it's unlikely though.
  25. Exactly my point! The fact that it is indeed standard practice in Thailand and elsewhere, shows the the mechanism is in place. My reply was to @NZAMBOY comment that "That's not the banks responsibility and they won't touch that in any way so you can forget that idea" If the banks are instructed by the government to withhold a percentage of foreign remittances, they'll have no choice but to obey. As I said, I have no idea IF this is likely but just an observation / opinion.
