Singapore turbulent flight: Aussie survivor’s desperate plea
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And on some flights, one is encouraged to get up and go to the bar. This is one of the attractions of Emirates A380 business class for me. It's therefore possible to encounter CAT whist standing with a drink, or even a hot drink. Having said that, incidents like this are thankfully very rare and there's an element of risk in anything you do. I for one won't take such a blasé attitude to the "Fasten seat belts" signs and announcements in future! -
Tourists behaving badly: Locals protest for better respect
VBF replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I agree. I'm a Brit but I tend to avoid groups of UK tourists in Pattaya, especially the so-called "football crowds". And adding to the list above, REAL football fans are NOT thugs - the "rent-a-mob" ones are though. -

And they say you cannot judge by appearances... Au contraire! 😂 The look on the girl's face said it all, IMO. And IMO, even being dressed like that is just about acceptable on a beach road, Pattaya, Patong etc but in a city? Pleeeaasssee!!! -
I don't spend much, if any time in Bangkok these days, but I do remember Thermae from the 1980s - loved its total sleaziness 😆 Woodstock too from the same period. Now, TQ on Pattaya Beach Road is going strong! I believe it was the first gogo in Pattaya (?) - was certainly there in the 1980s when I first went. They had a fire some years ago and rebuilt it as close to the original as possible. For those who don't know, it's a gogo playing rock music and with a few VDO screens showing music VDOs. Good squad of ladies of all shapes and sizes, helpful staff and GREAT rock only music. They open at about 2PM with (I think) 4 shifts of dancers up to midnight. Drink prices are more expensive that many bars, but still cheaper than Walking Street. If you happen to be a Hasher, its an essential visit if in Pattaya. Then again if you ARE a Hasher you probably already know it! Search AN forum - there have been several threads about it over the years.

Don't forget to order the "soup in a basket" as a starter! 😂 Less flippantly, some burger places serve the burger with a stick like a giant toothpick through the burger, and a sharp knife like a steak knife. In that case, I cut the burger in half, put the stick in the half I'm eating, pick it up and eat it. If not....sod it - just make a mess!

Why are there restrictions on weed but not on alcohol?
VBF replied to Conan The Barbarian's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
I really don't understand why weed / dope / whatever cannot be regulated, and age-restricted just like alcohol and tobacco. Leave we consenting adults to choose our own vices! My opinions don't just apply to Thailand, of course - this is an issue in many places. -
Could be counterproductive, too much time also allow people to take time and file for VAT returns hehe. Is it possible that you're missing what the OP posted - it's certain dates May 15 to June 4 when "some areas will be closed". Those areas may be in the passport control, leading to unusual delays. Don't think @george is suggesting you change your usual patterns of timings outside these dates.

Phuket Monorail Plan Unveiled to Boost Tourism and Transport
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Sadly, many years ago! I'm so glad I went to Phuket in the 1980s when it was still a lovely tropical island which it hasn't been for many a year. -
That was how it was in January 2024, when I (Brit) applied in UK. It did NOT ask for passport pages showing previous 12 months of travel, but DID ask for "proof of current location". I supplied a Council Tax bill. So I guess your ideas of using a VPN if you apply abroad would work as long as you have access to such data. Oh and @ian carman it DID ask for "Travel booking confirmation" - I supplied my ticket.

Superrich Struggles as Savvy Tourists Opt for Travel Cards
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I did not know that - thank you. (Making note for next trip!) Is it significant enough a difference to make it worth walking from Soi Lenke to Soi PO to change say £500 would you reckon or are we talking pennies / satang amounts? -
Superrich Struggles as Savvy Tourists Opt for Travel Cards
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I can only comment on Pattaya, but IME TT Money Exchange https://ttexchange.com/ gives the best rates for cash (UKP to Baht) and there are loads of branches. -

Good gracious! You're not implying the presence of ladies of easy virtue in the cultural centre of the Eastern Seaboard are you? 😲 I'm shocked and stunned!

Thai Airways Confronts Social Media Storm Over Faulty Seats
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Whereas when Emirates stopped flying in 2020 and i was forced to fly Thai to London, Emirates gave me the options of refund, credit for another flight or holding the booking open until all restrictions were lifted. I took the latter and used the ticket in 2023. Thing is, Emirates went out of their way to help, even bothering to explain that although a refund was an option, it was the least economical of all three options - it was "up to me". -
Thai Airways Confronts Social Media Storm Over Faulty Seats
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agree. I was forced to fly Thai to London in 2020 at the outset of lockdowns, having flown to BKK on Emirates. Both Business Class, both A380s. There was no comparison in comfort (cabin & seat layout) service, food & drink service and the general attitude of the cabin crews. And, Thai is obviously a lot more expensive too. I accept it's a direct flight but that's bot even nearly enough to compensate. -
Yeah - if recent reports are accurate, I'd have thought channelling resources towards fixing seats might be more useful! But what do I know...I'm just another "Thai Airways hater"....but only because I've travelled on them!

E-Visa option legitimate option?
VBF replied to Deserted's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Understood. 👍 So presumably if the OP put in UK passport and UK resident that would work(?) As I intimated above, assuming the visa is granted, once you get to Thailand, nobody would know. Even handing over one's boarding pass shouldn't cause a problem - I always get my visa in UK (which is genuine in my case) fly UK-Dubai-Thailand and hand over a BP showing I've arrived from Dubai - never even questioned even though I keep the London to Dubai BP "just in case". -

E-Visa option legitimate option?
VBF replied to Deserted's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I guessed you were, but although I replied to you to keep the thread moving, the information was for the OP. BUT...are you saying that the OP could not even access the site from KSA? If so, that I didn't know. -
E-Visa option legitimate option?
VBF replied to Deserted's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
All Thai visa applications are now online, so the KSA embassy were correct, if a little abrupt. Apply here https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ not on any other, unofficial site. If you choose the London option, one of the questions asked will be your current location. If you say KSA, you're telling the truth, however were you to accidentally say that you're in UK, (!) I imagine the application would be successful. When it's granted, all you get is a PDF file which you must print out and present at immigration with your passport on arrival.
