I agree, especially with your last sentence. Also agree with what @simon43 said earlier. I don't use Facebook, my Twitter account is effectively anonymous but I'm (obviously) a forum user - this and several others covering many of my interests. The thing to remember always is "Consider the source". If a respected website such as the NHS or a major university posts something, I am inclined to read it and consider what i read there, possibly going elsewhere to confirm, deny or get more data. If it's a raggedy so-called newspaper (usually a tabloid!) then I MIGHT go elsewhere to confirm or deny, more likely, i'll ignore it. In that respect, the internet is no different from trawling through "old-fashioned" media, BUT...it's a damn sight easier to be selective. As for "online trending", it's just fashion which is basically something for weak-minded individuals who cannot think for themselves....just remember the parable of The Emperor's New Clothes

Partially agree....but, in the West (UK specifically) your rights to warranty, return etc are actually stronger than if you bought it in person. Installation (and removal of the old item) is often free or at least the price is clearly shown. That's assuming you buy from a reputable supplier, of course. Example: last month my old fridge-freezer died. I realised this at 4 AM and in the time of 3 hours, I compared models and prices online, selected one to be delivered the next day and paid including a small "delivery charge" (£25) which included the supplier delivering to any room of my choice in my UPSTAIRS flat, taking away the old one and all the packing. I realise this is slightly for this forum but if the situation in Thailand is comparable then I suggest that online is best choice.

SCB ending SCB Easy Net internet banking.

Is that for ANY amount or just payments over 50K Baht? (FYI - I also get the message that @topt reported above when I try to log into SCB Easy.) -

I agree but to be fair, if you had accepted responsibility for payment in the past, and not informed the authorities of the change, it's is kind of your fault. -

If that's the case then it may be as well to inform the nosey bu$$ers anyway. If you don't and if you have others staying in your property who fail to get a licence when they should, the TV Licencing people will summons you as the "occupier on record". You'd only find out if you visit UK and/or the summons has some side-effect on your finances or whatever. Just a thought. -

You have TECHNICALLY broken UK law listening to Absolute whilst outside UK as their T&C for copyright issues only allow them to broadcast to UK listeners and you have lied to circumvent that. However in PRACTICAL terms, you are (IMO!) most unlikely to be investigated....for one thing, where could they start and how much resource would it take? (rhetorical question!) Absolute basically appear to do the minimum they need to do to stop you, unlike the BBC of course! -

I know i mentioned https://tunein.com/ before, but one thing I've noticed is that it never seems to need a VPN. Its search facility allows for searching by Location, Content, Language etc and you can find some of the smallest and most obscure radio stations from around the world. EG...a former TGF was amazed when I used it to play her hometown (Chayaphum) station. It appears to worry the BBC as it is NOT available on Tune In...however BBC Sounds works everywhere. Before anyone asks, No, I don't have a pecuniary interest in Tune In but I do use it a lot. -

For radio try https://tunein.com/ For TV use a VPN or simply an extension like https://browsec.com/en/ Both worked for me as recently as April 2023 -

Just FYI, Nakhonchai Air buses to Loei, Chayaphum etc nearly all stop at Korat (aka Nakhon Ratchasima) for lunch, which in the longer journeys, is included in the ticket price (or was last time I went). You should, therefore, have a good choice of bus times.

My annual travel insurance with Nationwide in UK contains the following, under "Exclusions" We will not pay any claim resulting from: Deliberate harm or recklessness Any claim made as a result of you: • Dying by or attempting suicide. • Deliberately injuring yourself or making yourself ill. • Putting yourself in danger, including danger that could reasonably be predicted, unless you were trying to save someone’s life. • Contracting a sexually transmitted disease. • Being under the influence of drugs or solvents, other than any drugs prescribed for you and taken under medical supervision. This includes any claim directly related to drug abuse. • Drinking so much that your judgment is seriously affected. This includes any claim directly related to alcohol abuse. Which begs the question, of course: Who decides that your judgement is "seriously affected"? Or, as you say, "Where can that line be drawn?"

That might be relevant if it was a foreigner buying the house, but not in this situation. To a Thai, the percentage of his/her net worth is probably similar to you or me in the West were we to buy a "new build" at home. The OP says "His mother, Nattharujee, a 48-year-old vendor, pleaded with the developers for justice and empathy towards her hardworking son, who had invested heavily to secure this house as their first home." Just like we would do in the West.

I'll take your word for that, but it seems odd that they would close ATMs in such a "tourist-centric" area. I had to go from the Soi diana area to either Klang, or TukCom to find a genuine SCB ATM. Not even sure if there was one in Central. One of the staff in my hotel agreed that many had gone from the area.

Which effectively turns your credit card into a debit card!

With respect LL they are you know! When in Pattaya this year, I found that whereas in 2020 every 7/11 around the Soi Bukhau area had a SCB ATM, now none of them do. This is apparently due to 7/11 and SCB terminating their contract but the fact remains that none of the ATMs I used to use are there any more. As it happens, Bangkok Bank ATMs accept SCB cards without charging but the vanishing ATMs are a fact.

From what others have said, it appears that the key here is that you're in Thailand. I always thought the whole purpose of the World Wide Web was to allow access from anywhere. Apparently, SCB disagree ???? -

Thanks for the updates @Chivas. I think I'll also abandon attempts as I said above. HOPEFULLY what @liddelljohn said a few posts ago will come to pass. -
Reminds me that an engineers' tool kit actually only contains 2 items: 1 WD 40 for things that should move but don't 2 Duct tape for things that shouldn't move but do. Optional 3rd item for the experienced engineers: A large hammer to: 1 Move things that even WD 40 fails to move 2 Permanently reposition things that Duct tape cannot hold 3 Persuade the customer that everything is where it should be anyway

As discussed above, I was also thinking of cutting and refitting my SIM into my tablet. But even if that's successful I've still got to put the SIM back into the Thai phone (with a SIM adapter kit) after I've got the App working, and hope that I can use WiFi to continue using the App. Of course another hitch might be that my Thai phone account is set to DISABLE Data completely as, when in Thailand I only use that phone for speech and SMS - I use my tablet or UK phone on WiFi for anything requiring data. I shall be looking to see if you're successful @Chivas and, if you are, once registered, could you perhaps THEN try the App on WiFi only (i.e. turn 4G off on the phone)? -
Well it's what we all call him anyway..............
