in my previous, very old car, I tried one of those (different brand) but it was connected to the phone's speaker socket via a cable. (Or i could use any MP3 player) It was absolute RUBBISH and a waste of money....just in case anyone was thinking about buying one! ????

Happens on Win 10 too. I suggest you look at my reply above Posted Monday at 05:39 PM as this has worked for me. I haven't tried this program called "Everything" simply because I prefer to sort out problems using Windows "native" features whenever possible....just my MO to avoid adding "bloatware" to my computers so I have no comments on such programs.

Did you try asking "Mr Google" before positing on here? I would! If, for example you search using " win 10 search not working " (w/o inverted commas), one of the many responses is here: https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-fix-search-problems-in-windows-10 Having told you how to get answers, I would suggest concentrating on the paragraph "How to fix Windows 10 search problems by rebuilding the index" I've found that corrupted indexes to be a common cause of searching issues. BEFORE you do though, look up sfc /scannow in Google. (SFC = System File Checker) One result here How to Run System File Checker sfc /scannow in Windows 11/10 File corruptions cause a multitude of problems, not just searching. Familiarise yourself with it...it's damn useful ???? Remember to run it in an ELEVATED command prompt, and that if you have an HDD as opposed to an SSD, it can take several hours to run.

Oh those happy days before we were infested by "PC" and "Woke" ???? I saw Jim D in a South London pub a couple of years before he made it big - he bounced on stage after a rather large aging stripper who had worn a gold lame bikini and said to the audience "Big hand for Garry Glitter's Granny". At that moment.....I KNEW he'd make it.????????

Only after he's flushed you out! ????

You're probably right - the original idea of Airplane mode has been superseded by the various ways of circumventing it (which may or not have been possible in earlier versions of Android) Basically, though, all i was saying to @sometimewoodworker is that, by default, when it's on, all comms is deactivated - I didn't think to look at FAA RTCA site but simply activated Airplane mode on my 2 standard devices upon which I've never had occasion to actually use Airplane mode "in anger". For practical purposes both he and @richard_smith237 are quite correct - Richard being the more succinct of the two ????

The standard is implied in the links i posted in both my posts if you take the trouble to read carefully; the standard can be summarised as, "Airplane Mode turns off ALL communications by default / design." In both my posts, i acknowledged that there are workarounds to allow the use of BT & WiFi in Airplane mode. Hence my statement that you're PARTIALLY incorrect as opposed to completely wrong.
-
You are PARTIALLY INCORRECT regarding what Airplane mode is and does by design.. I have 2 Android devices in front of me - a standard Nokia 6.1 and a tablet, both running standard Android 10. When I switch to Airplane mode on either of them, WiFi, Bluetooth and Phone (cellular) connectivity are all disabled. Please read my link in my earlier post...that is the whole point of Airplane mode - additionally read the first paragraph of https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/what-is-airplane-mode/ particularly "It’s designed to turn off all the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, and data connections" However the paragraph "Using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi" tells you how to leave Airplane mode on and still use Bluetooth. But in my original post I did say "You CAN disable the phone and leave WiFi running, (tap highlighted icon) but that's not strictly Airplane Mode" Hence why I say you're PARTIALLY INCORRECT.

Thanks. As I plan to spend about 75-80 days in Thailand, I think I'll go for the eVisa as that way I won't get any questions from the airline about onward flights. If I'm correct, having ANY visa obviates that - always used to anyway!
-
Several of the replies on this thread seem to be wrong! (EG "...turn on airplane mode and connect to the hotel wifi...) That wouldn't be possible because Airplane mode disables both Phone AND WiFi (AND Bluetooth) See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airplane_mode and just checked for myself on 2 Android devices. (See the bit about " pseudo-airplane mode" in the link) You CAN disable the phone and leave WiFi running, (tap highlighted icon) but that's not strictly Airplane Mode

Having not been (anywhere) for a while.... I really didn't look into STV at all. Am i correct in thinking that one may still get a SETV (Single Entry) in UK? Good for 60 days, as used to be or 90? Still extendable for 30 days?

As i said...... "We're both doing it right - you for you and me for me." ????

I usually get the symptoms of 'flu the day I have my jab - lasts about 3 hours. It's possible that the bout of 'flu you had MIGHT have been worse if you hadn't had the jab but you'll never know. It's also possible that you just haven't been exposed to it for 4 years. It's certain that a good diet helps regardless. We're both doing it right - you for you and me for me.
-
Absolutely yes!!! (Not if I "knew" what you "think you know" though) But then my knowledge comes from competent medical / scientific sources rather than hysterical conspiracists. Just had my 4th Covid jab (Autumn booster) alongside my annual 'flu jab. Good Health!

Will the Eulogy contain purple prose? If so you'll be green with envy if you miss it.

Not necessarily. You might be keeping it open by injecting your savings into it "hoping" for an improvement "some day". Over the years I've met several bar owners who did just that...some got lucky, others didn't.

COVID-19 preventive measures in schools to be lifted from October 1st
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Guess it depends upon how much you care what other people think of you! If I'm obeying the law and other people don't like it...tough luck! -

Health Ministry to Stop Reporting Daily COVID Cases on Oct 1
VBF replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly! For healthy people who've been vaccinated, Covid is no longer a major threat, which, for all its faults, the UK has done correctly. I went and got my 4th shot yesterday (Autumn booster) and it was being given alongside influenza shots. THAT shows that Covid, though a serious illness for some people, can and should be treated just like 'flu. -
I think you'll find that modern working practices no longer comply with that "tradition". People who are self-employed, on contract etc make up a larger percentage of the workforce than they used to - they (we) take time off when it suits them (us). So really no time of the year is "holiday season" any more - for me my travel IS decided by what time of year suits my desires, which in turn is controlled by prices, weather etc.

Yes i had measles as a child. Once again I'm in partial agreement with you except that: 1 Measles eventually shows itself in the patient, allowing contacts to be traced whereas Covid can be completely asymptomatic, meaning that the infarcted person can spread it for several days completely unknowingly. 2 In general, (note that generalisation) Measles is less likely to be fatal than some variations of Covid.
