  1. I wish them well. It’s enough money to improve their lives. Hope they are cautious with those “well wishers”. Even though they might not use it very wisely. They have more money now than some expats will have in a lifetime.
  2. Odd behavior? Looks pretty straightforward to me. Where is Lieutenant Columbo when you need him?
  3. Maybe this young man didn’t exactly do the right thing. But at his age. Sometimes they don’t do the right things. No matter what country. No matter how good the parents are . At least he had a job. Being a welder at his age trying to make some money. That’s more than some people his age would do.
  4. Things like this are common all over Not just Thailand. You purchase a vehicle. Then you have issues with it you have to sometimes go in circles to get it resolved. As for the alleged misinformation about the vehicle. Could happen anywhere not just Thailand. I knew a guy in the states that purchased a used Jeep from a large dealership. It looked great and had only 35000 miles one owner on it for its age. Problem was as he was driving it all different things started to go wrong. In a short period of time. He got an attorney he knew. The attorney found out the vehicle had 85000 miles when it was sold. And three different owners in its lifetime
  5. And the possible surge of Covid. But hey money is money
  6. So you have no credit or debit cards I’m guessing. And it depends what kind of documents they are. If you feel they can be used fraudulently with your name. Then you need to take care of that Just like if you lost your wallet in any other or your own country
  7. First of all. I commend you for trying to do the right thing. But when someone rents a condo and there is a rental contract. The rental contract is signed before you move in. Not afterwards. I don’t care what country it is. That is not the way business is done. And you should have been given the name and contact information of the actual owner. Its very clear something is shady going on in that place. And these owners could be Chinese investors living in China. Im saying condo because you say these “rooms” are owned by individuals. And many refer to a condo as a room. If these rooms are rented such as an apartment building or rooming house. Then the building owner owns the rooms . Not individuals. Then you say you took a chance moving in for a trial period. Like it or not. You will probably need to move quickly . Or put up with it if you are not hassled by immigration. Which you probably will be.
  8. After living in Thailand for a few years. I find most expats that move here is for one main reason. They couldn’t afford to live in their own countries. Due to minimal income and other factors. They don’t come here for the culture. And they are quick to ridicule their own countries because of the personal situations they are in.
  9. Yes there are citizens in the United States that take advantage of the system. Not to mention all the expats that come to Thailand from America and other western countries looking for a free ride.
  10. That’s just great. Now if someone needs the medications locally I guess they are just out of luck if not available.
  11. The OP is talking about the 1099 for IRS not the 7162. But I’m having the same issue with the 7162. Sent it Registered last year. Scanned delivered. Got second notice saying never received. Sent second one EMS December 2. They claim they still don’t have it. Even though scanned delivered and even shows a name of someone that actually signed for it.
  12. From some of the ongoing comments in the Forums. One would think that violent acts don’t happen in Thailand. Only in the Western world. All these stories of violent acts that happen in Thailand must be some mistake. They must have happened some place else.
  13. You received this in the mail? I just checked MySocialSecurity website. I didn’t see it there yet. I was always under the impression it was available online before the mailing
  14. It’s common sense that if you are in an open air area not surrounded by a lot of people. You don’t need the mask. And if you are in an area with no ventilation and a lot of people you should wear one. Especially if you have health issues. This is not a medical breakthrough. It’s common knowledge. What’s the big deal of wearing a mask in certain situations. Get over it.
  15. There is no specific place. If it happens it happens
  16. Since the Chinese tourism has just started. I would think it’s too early to speculate on the effects.
  17. With all the improvements needing to be done. It wouldn’t be able to be completed in most people’s lifetime
  18. I was planning on moving back to the states in a couple of months. Maybe I will stay now
  19. These gym locker thefts are not uncommon. And not exclusively to Thailand. For example I was a member of a new gym in the states. Within the first month or so since it opened. Members were having things stolen from the men’s locker room . Pad lock’s somehow were being forced open. I would never bring something that valuable into a gym.
  20. I don’t believe there is an issue. Look at all the other expat/ tourists here that have criminal convictions. And also the ones wanted in their own countries. Most don’t seem to be recognized until years later.
