  1. You are not obligated to tip anywhere. It is at your discretion. I base if I should tip on the specific situation. And how much would depend on the quality of service. For example in my condo building in Bangkok. I would tip only the staff that would personally help me with something not specifically related to their job. The building is 40 floors with many staff. I cannot give every employee in the building for just normally doing their job. If you are staying in a hotel. At least tip your maid at the end of your stay. That is of course if you were satisfied the person did a decent job.
  2. The lies from local women are not exclusive just to bargirls
  3. The story could have been published to shed a more positive light on the police. Nothing unusual about that. And if it being possibly fake. If it was I would think the facts and descriptions in the story would be more general. In nature. Not so specific. About why a person would just wear an expensive watch anywhere. Well I guess you would have to own one. To have the mentality of where and how. And if you do have the means to own one. Its just a normal everyday watch to you. But also I would think if a watch just slipped off the person would notice it. Either feeling it or noticing it
  4. One question is. Was the driver in the car or standing outside. Because if inside he could have just driven away if felt threatened.
  5. In the three years living in Thailand. I have experienced both good service and bad service. Sometimes I actually felt if I was Thai I would have gotten better treatment. So it works both ways
  6. The bad air quality was said to be from burning in Cambodia The only advice I can give is. If you can. Download a free air quality app on your phone. If you see the air is bad. Stay indoors as much as possible. Wear a good quality mask outdoors. Get air purifiers for your residence. I don’t blame you for being concerned about it effecting your health. You might think to do some research to relocate. Moving to an affordable country to live with better air quality and standards. Read the posts on here from Tom H. He gives good information on this topic
  7. It might be legit. You can wait and see. But I’m guessing there are probably a number of people he has to makes refunds to. Personally I think it’s a scam. But too early to tell.
  8. If you are skeptical about this doctor I would see another one and bring your test results. Possibly at a different hospital. For a second opinion. I unfortunately I have a number of health issues And I would sometimes go for second opinions. Whether at Bumrungrad Hospital or while I was living in the states. I wouldn’t recommend trying to get interpretations of tests and medical treatments by people that have no medical background. The only person on the forum that appears to have a medical background is Sheryl. You might want to try to reach out to her.
  9. Well maybe he thought you skipped town without paying him. But from how it sounds he had a way to stay in touch with you. I’m surprised he didn’t make an agreement with you by when you to pay him back. Strange he couldn’t have just reminded you during those ten days instead of reacting the way he did. Glad you found a solution. But to be honest. Some of the facts sound a little odd. Especially with a friend threatening to go to the police over a small loan. Not even 10 days or less old.
  10. There is nothing unusual about this in the LOS. Just another normal routine. At least they weren’t put into an enclosed trailer
  11. How long have you known this friend? And how long have you owed this money? Because a friend is not just going to go the police if you are trying to figure out how to pay them. Since supposedly you do have the money . Threatening to get police involved is a serious issue. Things like this usually happen if a person borrows money from someone. And they don’t repay it for a long amount of time. For the most part a large amount of money. And keep making excuses why they can’t pay it back. Or they go to the police if they feel they were a victim of some sort of scam. Try Western Union.
  12. Some police do what they do because they know they can get away with it. And some foreigners will succumb to their actions
  13. This type of behavior in teenagers unfortunately is common in a lot of parts of the world. Not just Thailand
  14. They could be bar girls or not. You would need to engage them in conversation. If you want to find a decent girl. I wouldn’t be looking in bars especially in popular farang areas.
  15. I have called the grab help center a few times living in Bangkok. Mostly regarding grab car drivers. The majority of times they give an apology and send the issue to the relevant department. I believe the corporate headquarters is in Singapore. But good luck finding a way to contact them. My advice you is contact the help center by phone. You might have to call two or three times before you get results. Be firm and insist you want a specific resolution to the issue. That is what I had to do a number of times. I use grab quite often. I know the frustration. If it’s a minor issue and involves little money. It might be best to just let it go. But of course that is a personal choice you have to make A handful of times I did have to complain about how grab help center explained the resolution about something. I sent the complaint via the app. You see different categories of complaints on there
  16. Yes there is room for improvement . I see in Bangkok so many adults and children living in types of shanty towns. People shouldn’t have to live like that. People might say the people are lazy, drunks, whatever. But that is not everyone. Some might have met bad times. Or too old to find work according to the age standards here. They might not have the benefit of proper education. Or when they were young children had to work to help their families survive. And couldn’t attend school much. Living in Thailand I see. If you don’t have university education with a good job. Life can be very tough, a struggle.
  17. Good for the son catching the guy. And I commend the neighbors for getting involved also. iIm surprised when the son and neighbors made the “ citizens arrest “. They didn’t make a little well deserved “ street justice “ before the police took the guy into custody.
  18. I think the results are somewhat off. As for Chiang Mai. I spent three days there. I did like it better than Bangkok
  19. If you have health insurance already from a company . They can’t force you to take insurance you don’t want. If the person you are speaking with keeps insisting, then you should should ask to speak to someone else or a supervisor. I can’t imagine an insurance company is insisting their policy holders have to purchase insurance from them to satisfy immigration. They might offer it to you, even in error. But they can’t force you to take it. It’s a private company, not immigration.
  20. Because of the Covid situation having less impact. And restrictions eased. More people, more crowds At immigration
  21. I’m not going to say who is being truthful or who is not. This incident is basically a he said she said type of thing. She does appear to be very feisty. And the type of person to stand her ground. I can’t imagine a person with that type of personality to get on their knees to apologize to anyone. But if a person is under duress I guess anything can happen. I’m not saying it did or didn’t. Yes the police do appear to have issues. At least from reading news stories and opinion. In living in Bangkok for three years I have not had to deal with them personally. But I have rode in vehicles as a passenger. And a few times they had to stop and go through checkpoints. The officers would see me in the vehicle. And at no time asked me for a passport. Or question me. Sometimes I would walk by officers on the street. At no time was I ever stopped. Yes there are some bad officers. But I’m sure they are not all bad.
  22. A lot of YouTubers review restaurants and food. Doesn’t mean it’s staged. The pizza is Neapolitan style. At least the crust is anyway. It seems most pizza in Bangkok is this style. I personally don’t care for it. Mainly because of the crust. But I really don’t care for most of the pizza here anyway. The type of pepperoni on it is called “pepperoni cups”
  23. No need for her to get upset. There’s enough farang to go around for these ladies.
  24. It’s not about what others would do or how they feel. It’s how you feel and what you think is right If it makes you feel better. Then report it.
  25. I have purchased some western brand small appliances here. I find the quality is not as good. And they don’t last too long. It’s like when you buy a vehicle in the West and it’s manufactured in Mexico The quality is usually not as good.
