Untrue going by other posts on here (probably in the banking section). One poster had trouble with the phone recognising him and put it down to lighting as it worked eventually in another location with better lighting. Another poster couldn't read the intructions on his phone (maybe the same guy as posted on Page 1 in this thread with what sounds like a similar issue).

No. The UK requirement is technical in nature in that it improves the machine readability of the application form. The Thai requirement, although argueably valid in its day, is now outdated as explained above and should be removed, but there's no gain to them for doing it so it'll likely remain.

Faster Payment System in the UK been around since 2008 and is almost instantaneous. Other countries have similar setups.

Yes, I used one this this morning but it was cash only which was the point I was replying too where it was claimed you could book and pay through the app.
