New rules for opening a bank account
Dirk Z replied to Dirk Z's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I have been to a number of banks. Before about a month ago they said a legalized statement from the embassy is what they would need, but now three different banks at various locations plainly say "no". Even banks where we have been customers for quite some time with solid accounts. -
New rules for opening a bank account
Dirk Z replied to Dirk Z's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Unlike you other comment: you got it! -
It seems that the rules for opening a bank account have been tightened. My son would like an account here because of frequent travel and maybe buying a condo, but he only has a tourist visa and opening of an account is denied, even at the international locations like shopping malls, major offices. Also our banks, where we are good customers (Krungsri, SCB and Bangkok Bank) won't help. Latest I heard is that it depend on the type of visa. We can provide him with a rental contract and as such an address. Does anyone know of a way to get this done?

Going to a hospital the patient will most likely get over-diagnosed and over-treated. So, yes, expensive. This sounds more like a problem fit for primary care. This you can find at BeWell. If necessary they will refer further, but that seems unlikely.

The Danger of Russia Becoming President of the U.N. Security Council
Dirk Z replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
If it is that irrelevant who becomes president of the Security Council, and indeed if the world lets a war criminal take the position, the whole Council might as well be dissolved. Whose security will it protect? -
FYI: Quackery, often synonymous with health fraud, is the promotion[1] of fraudulent or ignorant medical practices. A quack is a "fraudulent or ignorant pretender to medical skill" or "a person who pretends, professionally or publicly, to have skill, knowledge, qualification or credentials they do not possess; a charlatan or snake oil salesman".[2] The term quack is a clipped form of the archaic term quacksalver, from Dutch: kwakzalver a "hawker of salve".[3] In the Middle Ages the term quack meant "shouting". The quacksalvers sold their wares at markets by shouting to gain attention.[4] Common elements of general quackery include questionable diagnoses using questionable diagnostic tests, as well as untested or refuted treatments, especially for serious diseases such as cancer. Quackery is often described as "health fraud" with the salient characteristic of aggressive promotion.[1]

This looks very much like quack medicine to me. What would you use it for?

I was going to post the exact same photo. These are steroid eye drops, only to be used with great caution and on good indication, like an iridocyclitis. Not just for any "discomfort", there are neutral eye drops for that.

Death Certificate translate and copy
Dirk Z replied to Surasak's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have the following experience after the passing away of a Dutchman in Thailand, living with a partner but not married. He collapsed and was taken to hospital. The police was involved, as is often the case when a farang is involved to rule out non-natural causes of death. The body was taken to a University hospital. At that point you can either agree to an autopsy or refuse it. In case of suspicion of course an autopsy will be mandatory. Then a death certificate is issued by the district office, in Thai. If a translation is needed for legal purposes, e.g. inheritance, there are many offices (Trendy in Sukhumvit soi 13 has them) that will provide a translation and legalisation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The latter is not so easy if you have to do this yourself. It cost 2000 baht. Then for use outside of Thailand it needs to be legalized by the appropriate embassy. But all this is only necessary if matters are to be settled outside of Thailand. -

Hua Hin quiet beach and accommodation away from the crowds!

Beware of jet ski's unless you like the noise. Just come back from a hotel that was always quiet but is now spoilt because of the constant noise. -
I am extremely happy for 15 years with Pornsak dental clinic, sukhumvit 49. He has separate specialists for implants and root canal to work with.

What location?

Limoncello in soi 11 and Bella Napoli in soi 31 have good Italian food. As for music: Country Roads (fun place) and Penny Black have good bands, both at the Asok side of Soi Cowboy. BarSu (Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit) will re-open on 11.11. Apoteka (soi 11) will re-open under another name on 16.11. Shenanigans in Silom, Patpong, has great bands on Wednesday and Fridays (Beatles).

Small correction: in Amsterdam it is not legal but it is "tolerated" as long as it is sold in designated shops and no more than 5 grams per day per person are being sold. So, the shops can sell at the front door but acquiring their stock at the backdoor is illegal. This is a situation that has been for many years and which is impossible to explain to anyone. It means that basically criminals control the production and getting it into the shops. But this weird situation has led to the situation being a little bit better controlled and took the trade off the streets. Now there are places where e.g. drugs are no longer sold to tourists but only to inhabitants. The government is struggling with the whole situation. Thailand made a brilliant decision to allow cannabis virtually everywhere so teenagers can relieve their toothache with the appropriate medicine, because I don't think anyone would use it recreationally, since that is not allowed.
