  1. As said above a very large USB drive can be had for less than 1,000 baht and are very easy to use (for both your computers if you wish). https://www.lazada.co.th/products/wd-my-passport-2tb-usb-30-hdd-25-internal-harddisk-harddrive-wd-external-hdd-2tb-portable-hard-drive-i2999842447-s11002337211.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.10.21f9247cH1njxc&search=1
  2. If you have SSD they are probably not large so for downloads you would want to direct them to an external drive (which can be USB HDD). If you do not direct to external drive everything will just go to C drive and fill it quickly. If you have videos/movies/TV/Photos or such will fill up SDD quickly but easy to transfer to an external drive.
  3. How big is it? Drives do not last forever so probably best to clone it (you mention 20 years but hope it is not that old). Copy of current drive to an SSD (if size OK) would leave everything as it was but make computer much faster operating. But if you have 500GB or larger drive now would be a cost issue - but a new larger drive would still be a good investment even if have to stay with HDD. Knowing nothing and trying to move is not a good path for most of us - but if you must take that route have professional help.
  4. An alternative search term is 'soft close'. They are currently very popular for RV's.
  5. You have to turn off access in the phone itself - SIM does not have to have any special registration for internet (only to get discounts) AFAIK (and have paid when changing phones until I turned them off).
  6. Perhaps it is my reading but it is normal in most hospitals for family member to say with patient not in multi person ward and in private facilities bedding and towels are provided for such. There are downsides to government hospitals, beyond language. Often long waits for operations (which could become serious issue) and most care will not be by the primary physician (only a junior member of his team). Insurance and option to use private facilities can be a life saver and as said getting that insurance before issues is very important.
  7. Perhaps owner had to wire electric to power it? At any rate not a major expense to keep everyone happy.
  8. Your home bank sets the exchange rate with Swift if sending local currency (normally very bad choice) and if sending foreign currency the receiving bank sets the rate. As there may be more than two banks involved the costs can also be higher for fees using Swift than what is indicated. As said Swift has its place and often more useful for large transfers (as basic fee is set).
  9. 1,000 watts (4,500W). I also had that 3.5kw unit for many years and very happy with it but as old age creeps (runs) in find the extra wattage of the DH-4 more to our liking for the few cold days here in Bangkok. Almost identical in construction.
  10. Wise is amount based so if indeed more than normal monthly living expense bank transfers can be better - but for smaller amounts Wise is normally much better with both lower fee/no receiving fee and better exchange rate.
  11. Tap water is what most people use (unheated) - you can buy electric dish drying units for extra safety (they work very well).
  12. Received the second over 50k at 1403 today - so was sent Dec 1 US time so no 49,999.99 restriction using Wise.
  13. 4.5kw likely largest your electric will support and very much like the Panasonic.
  14. Most transfers as in seconds if funded and not to tagged Bangkok Bank account (which is only at about 1400 each day).
  15. From USA I sent/received over 50k to Bangkok Bank yesterday at 0845/sent 1000 rcvd 1404. I sent over 50k to Bangkok Bank today at 0810/sent 1000
  16. Did it really say that? Transferwise ceased being the name long ago. It is Wise now. Did someone really use "Transferwise" as the name in a receipt?
  17. It was $12.48 for my ACH pull by Wise from USAA for $1,500 at 0840 today and received 50,099.67 baht as international transfer at 1404.
  18. Yes - I lived and worked overseas. FEP/Blue Cross Blue Shield is the international coverage program. There are only a handful and some have employment restrictions. But these are for those primarily living overseas.
  19. There is a group where it may not be foolish and I have opted many years ago not to pay for Medicare B for that reason. I have worldwide FEHB insurance which I share payment for and really no intent to return to USA.
  20. Do you actually believe that???? https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Thailand&country2=United+States&city1=Chiang+Mai&city2=Miami%2C+FL
  21. Many many get that notice - it can be due to an error you make entering data or being outside of the 15-0 day before due window - but often is a database issue that we can not do anything about. A good check is to download the smart phone app and log on using that after setting it up. It should find your file and if it says you are overstay (and you are not) you know it is not your error inputting data but a database issue and time to mail or deliver yourself.
  22. If this is a first extension of stay your 90 day report would be due 90 days from application. Higher financials but if over age 50 you could change to retirement extension next year as that does not require you live with wife full time. Higher financials but simple process.
