  1. I saved many hours hopping on the Centerpoint ferry, while crowds were queuing up (and down) from as far as the the KC Grande carpark.
  2. Unfortunately "travel to Bangkok" is what will be required, according to the lady who issued my visa. But lets hope that BOI will become aware of the issue and offer mail-in or OL service, which would be easy for them as the reside on the same floor as Immigration.
  3. Many here are nicknamed after their favourite dish. Obviously he has eaten too much of it since he was thrown out of immigration.
  4. Correct, but I appreciate the added flexibility I get from the full exemption. Anyhow, at 70 and not overly healthy I feel like I got PR, all of a sudden, without any sacrifice.
  5. You didn't mention that LTR retirees can apply for a work permit, and that income from overseas isn't income taxed.
  6. Indeed, I got my visa just by doing about 10 scans of my existing policy and bank account, 45 minutes of "work" to upload and fill in my application and that was it.
  7. Interestingly the pensioners are the largest group. Not surprisingly as the LTR is the first sensible long term retirement visa offered by Thailand (no health insurance nor local deposit, and explicit income tax exemption). Let's hope BOI keeps up the good work.
  8. This law doesn't target us, geezers settling in isaan, it will find its customers amongst truly affluent foreigners who dream of a big pool villa, on prime land in places such as Pukhet, Hua Hin, etc.. No need for us to get our nickers in knot. Even though I got a nice LTR 10 years visa a couple of days ago. Real bargain for for 50000 Bahts.
  9. Agree totally, Hybrid is just expensive nonsense, ineffective with regards to carbon footprint.
  10. Good work, now go south and raid these blue moon parties. And maybe admit the error of legalising Canabis. This utter stupidity will only bring more users to the country.
  11. Yep, they increase the size of the probe until he confesses.
  12. And how about the concept of "killing two birds with one stone" ?
  13. Well, I thought this clip gives an insight into what is down the road for the British empire.
  14. Hmmmmh, if I was a woman I'd run away from this thread.
  15. I am sure that many teen pregnancies would go unnoticed or hidden until the 12th week.
  16. Got my visa stamped this morning. Just a few details that may be useful. The expiry date of the visa is October 17 2032, the date of the BOI letter of approval plus 10 years. I have been granted an extension until the 23 October 2024, which is my passport's expiry day. My guess is that I'll get only 3 years when I transfer to my new passport. The 365.25 days reports must be done with the Chamchuri office. Hope BOI will help and/or accept mail applications. When converting from "Thai wife" extension to LTR the do indeed want to see a recent Kor Ror 2 and the original marriage certificate. Wonder what happens to those married overseas? Taxis from the office were a total nightmare 45 minutes wait (Grab), nearly as long as getting a 10 years visa. One more thing: I have never worked with an agent, but BOI was doing all the things I've heard (here) agents were doing, handholding diring the whole process, queue jumping, etc. While the family wait playing with Ipads in the comfy BOI lounge.
  17. I have been living here for 8 years and came to realise that in terms of tourism Thailand has a lot less to offer than my countries of origin EU/France and Australia. I reckon that, thanks to Covid, a rising number of travellers have become aware to the reality.
  18. Ooh, thought he just came back from som skiing holiday, just as BJ came back from California.
  19. Well, he just knelt on Floyd's back while the latter was getting killed by Chauvin.
  20. Well, 500000 is only a modest condo in Bangkok, gotta sleep somewhere mate.
  21. Well IMHO the new BOI Visas cover all reasonable cases. The Wealthy global citizen doesn't have an age limit. The criteria are: At least USD 1 million in assets Personal income of a minimum of USD 80,000/ year in the past two years Investment of at least USD 500,000 in Thai government bonds, foreign direct investment, or Thai property Health insurance with at least USD 50,000 coverage or social security benefits insuring treatment in Thailand or at least USD 100,000 deposit. One couldn't imagine anyone age 40 thinking to retire with anything less than that.
  22. Well you might be one lucky idiot, but in Thailand the rule I was given is to rent everything, and that include wives.
