Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season
DonniePeverley replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Chiang Mai
Why the defensive responses? I kept an eye on it last year as i was thinking of renting there, and it was up there as one of the most polluted cities for a few months. -
Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season

I should stress it tops the list for a month or two. -
Things you have to remember : 1) If you pay her no money, would she move on? These girls aren't university educated, low income, so having someone who can take care of them is important to them as much as physical attraction is to you. 2) I think deep down you know if you do not provide for her, she will move on. 3) You have to be cautious that this 'investment' won't mean she will stay faithful. She may well have others on the go, and any could pop up just like you. And trust me when you are dishing that kind of money, you will demand loyalty and it will mess you up a fair bit with the trust. 4) I would take no notice of the 'she is being nice, she never asked much before, etc' - even the biggest scamming girls will play the long game like this. I say keep going, but keep your guard. Have your fun, but knowing full well this may not last forever, especially if it is not built on love, and as much as you suspect if you do not pay the 30k she will end it.

India is one place that is very dangerous for women. Literally terrifying if you are a single women there and going around. There is some sort of animalistic pray that men have towards women there. Unfortunately Thialand has opened up visa free to many of these individuals who continue to behave this way. Not all, but some.

They were no where near walking street or any of the red light district. Not everything in Chon Buri is walking street, so don't be one of those. There is some very good international schools, top housing there too. But the harassment from seedy tourists around Pattaya, who view any women walking as a prostitute is an issue.

Relocating to Chiang Mai, worried about burning season

The worlds most polluted city does strike fear into you though. Do school not give this period any time off? Instead of during the summer? -
This has to be a deal breaker for many. If i relocate my family, with school, you can't just change cities during a school term and get out of there during burning season. Can someone tell me how bad this actually is? Those with experience on the ground. Thoughts?

I'd disagree. My female colleagues went to Pattaya, and were constantly being harassed by Indian tourists thinking they were prostitutes.

Tourism Tourism Shock: Thailand's Visitor Numbers See Alarming Plunge

A 1% DROP ==== OH MY GOD CALL THE NONSENSE POLICE. More scare mongering articles coming up to advance casinos. -
Personally i love immigration in the UK. Without them the UK would be one bloody miserable place. I love the food, i love the cultures. I often to go to Punjabi weddings and they are beautiful. The Sikh people give free food out on weekends. I love my spicy grilled chickens. I love my Chinese food. I love seeing the mix of cultures intergrating. Of course you will get idiots in every community. Go to places like Sunderland, where there is little immigration - and it's really depressing ! All of us in Thailand should be respecting other cultures, it's why we travel. There's only a select few Brits (mainly based in Pattaya) who are rotten racist to the chore, as a result of blaming immigrants in another country for their problems. Irony being they are immigrants too.

The Boat people per year is tiny compared to legit immigration. Some 40,000 people come on a boat, compared to the nearly 1 million who arrived legally. Why such focus on boat people ? I agree it is nuts that they are just able to come this way, but the number is tiny - barely enough to fill a football stadium. The issue because of Farage's beloved Brexit is that we can send these people immiediately back. Furthermore, we are so slow to process these applications. Just do them within a week. That negates the need for any hotels, and the people get an answer straight away. No need for a drawn out court hearings. Every country has people who cross borders - be it Thailand, America, India, Italy, etc .... this is just a distraction and political hysteria. "These people are to blame for your life problems" - it's an easy distraction.

Just out of curiousty ... what issue do you have with minority communities living together? How does it effect you? Most racists come out with this, but then complain when they see to many faces they don't recognise. It's nonsense. During the riots last year, i noticed many asian communities stating that the riots (and ultimately racism in wider society) was why they stuck together in communities. A white guy is not going to see racism, but people of these immigrant communities face it out there - resulting in frightening times last summer. If you noticed areas of high asian population like Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham were not touched as these communities rallied around. Where as areas like Sunderland were dragged to the gutter. You see it in Thailand too. Go to areas like Hat Yai and you see massive muslim populations who like to stick together. What's wrong with that? I agree on the wider point that immigrants who want to settle here need to learn English, but they already have to take one, so i don't get quite why Starmer is dragging that kind of rhetoric out. Furthermore it's laughable when you see Brits in Thailand and Spain, who have lived out here for years and can't speak a word of Thai or Spanish ponitifcating how immigrants need to learn English. Get the hell out of here!

If they want to get immigration down then do it. They have failed to do it for years now (including the Torys), despite attacking immigrants at every corner. The rhetoric from Starmer was a disgrace. You look to a leader for compassionate views, intelligence and harmony. He's failed to address immigration, yet then goes on to attack them. We had riots last year because of this kind of rhetoric, which is fuelling hatred. More Farage pandering, which is what the Tory's did to great cost in the end. He is never get right wing support, and now is losing the left of his support. Total lunacy. Just get the immigration numbers down if that's what you want to do. Less talk and dehumanising.
