Intoxicated British Man Beaten by Two Thai Men in Pattaya
JayClay replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I lived in England for the majority of my life, and I don't recall a single occasion where somebody "boosted" about winning the war*. This is possibly the most ridiculous justification for bigotry I've ever heard. And I don't believe for one minute it's the genuine basis of your dislike for the Brits. *please don't post a bunch of links pointing to Brits boasting about winning the war. I'm sure there are instances of it here and there. But if you're regularly coming into contact with such people, maybe you should review the type of places you hang around. -
When I did the computer test, going back many years now, you were shown which questions you got wrong after the test along with the "correct" answer. Is that no longer the case?

Stupid me! I lent a lot of money to a Thai woman.

I understand exactly how it works. You can stop harassing me now. Thanks. -
Some might view that sentence as somewhat ironic...

Why do you feel the need to keep quoting me and updating me on your progress? -
There are 20 cars in a formula 1 race. The safety car only comes out when the speed needs to be controlled due to an incident.

Thailand shakes up golden visa scheme, hikes prices by up to 500 per cent
JayClay replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
But I was responding to somebody claiming that there are alternative options, for anybody who wants to stay here, for just 1,900bt per year! I never said that there should be options, I simply corrected somebody who said that there are options. We're done here. -

No offense taken. The argument I'm making is clearly too complex for you to understand. I'll try and put it into bullet points for you. If you still don't get it, you're on your own... Somebody says "the Elite visa is stupid. Who would pay for such a visa when there's easier/cheaper options out there?" For some people there aren't easier/cheaper options out there therefore the visa does make sense. That's it. I'm not complaining about the visa options availabile to unmarried (without kids....) people under the age of 50. I'm simply saying that for that given demographic the Elita visa does make sense. That's it. It's a really, really simple point. Stunningly so. -

I am not going to drop 5 million baht on a visa. I have never suggested that I would. 1 million for 20 years would have be reasonable if I had had access to that sort of money. At 5 million, obviously it's no longer reasonable. My views on this aren't hard to find. My very first post on this thread states my position clearly. As for your suggestion of getting married... Do you honestly think that would cost less than 5 million baht over 20 years?? -

I'm not having any visa problems. All I'm saying is that "elite visa is useless for anybody because they have other cheaper options" is an ignorant statement because the fact is there is a group of people for whom there aren't realistic cheaper options. It's amazing that some people can't grasp this simple concept. Bizarre. -

Yes I know that. But I shall continue to ask the question every time somebody writes something as stupid as "this visa is worthless because you can get the same for 1,900bt/year". I will be sure to include the fact that I have no children next to to prevent you having to waste your data... -

Okay next time I ask the "obvious question", I will rephase it.. "Could you please explain which visa I could get for 1900bt a year at immigration? I'm single and under 50. I have no children." Would you mind "stating the options" now please? -

On what basis are you applying for the non B? I know that, for example, if you're applying to get a work permit to teach English, the document requirements in country are a lot more strict than thouse outside the country. Perhaps the "immigration consultant" knows something about your particular case that makes applying in-country not possible?

A very fair self-assessment.

PM to look into extending tourist visas to 90 days
JayClay replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I never said that it would take 5 days. But I believe the poster who did say that was making a reasonable estimate. Perhaps it was a little exaggerated, but their guestimate is far more useful than quoting the amount of hours from take off to landing. Whenever I talk about travel times I generally talk in terms oftdoor-to-door.... Otherwise I'd just be talking about flight times. -
Last time I checked an ED visa with all extensions cost around 60,000+bt per year, involved at least 3 trips to immigration each year and flying out the country at least one time per year. The 20 year Elite visa at the old rate of 1m baht worked out at a similar price for much more convenience and peace of mind. Even a 5 year visa at 600,000bt was a tempting alternative.... Around twice as much per year than the ED visa for an undisputably genuine visa with none of the additional hassle involved. Plus the chance to upgrade to the 20 year visa without any financial penalty. At 900,000 for the 5 year option it becomes a lot less attractive for the ED/Voulenteer crowd. The additional 80,000 or so per year could just as easily pay for a nice little 2 month break outside the country each year. But, then, I guess that isn't the target market for the Thai Elite.

Does anybody have any info on the discontinuation of the Honda Click 160 abs model? I went to a number of shops and was told that the model is no longer in production due to "problems", and that if I wanted to buy a new one I would have to wait until next year. I' interested in what these "problems" are. If it's just a parts sourcing/manufacturing issue, I may consider looking for a "nearly new" 2nd hand model. However if the discontinuation was, for example, a safety recall, I'd obviously want to avoid that option. I can't seem to find any English language information on the issue online.
