Reports of modern slavery double in UK care sector
JayClay replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Has that always been the case? -
The Postman keeps trying to 'befriend' me.

Is that how you treat people who are trying to be friendly and chatty in your home country? -
There are no illegal immigrants in the UK. Certainly not enough costing the government 7 million pounds per day, anyway. What we do have is a backlog of asylum claims that are not being processed by the authorities. People who claim asylum are not illegal immigrants. People who are deneid asylum are deported. The current government is refusing to tax energy companies, who are posting profit increases of 900% so, yea, if they don't have enough money then it's entirely of their own making. But, yea, let's get angry at people fleeing war-torn countries instead. A tory government is never going to increase the pensions of retirees living abroad. I doubt any party would be very much in favor of it to be honest, but if you want any chance of it ever happening, it won't be the current lot.

When were they offering that? It seems incredibly low. -
Can you delete all members inactive accounts?
JayClay replied to billd766's topic in Forum Support Desk
They already have this information, and it's up to them if they want to share it. You could try asking I guess? The suggestion of deleting/deactivating dormant accounts is destructive and could potentially cause all kinds of issues for the software and, as I previously noted, is not required in order to get the data you're after. I couldn't figure out what the rest of your post had to do with your original suggestion. -
Reports of modern slavery double in UK care sector
JayClay replied to Social Media's topic in World News
You do know that what you're proposing is pretty much exactly what the current situation is, and is what has caused all this mess, don't you? The only people for whom it is appealing to live in the UK, and hence the only jobs getting filled by foreign workers are high paid jobs. Fruit pickers and care workers aren't going to bother with visas to come and work for low wages in the UK when they can travel and work anywhere in Europe visa free. The result? None of the low paying jobs are being filled. Unemployment is extremely low in the UK and they can't get the workers they need fill positions in vital sectors. All the while many of the higher-paid jobs are going to immigrant workers. Your suggested policy is literally failing in front of your own eyes, yet you want to somehow double down on it?? -

Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it a post from one of your personas that talked about how rude you found it when people wouldn't talk to you, and how you squared up to them and put them in their place for being such a misery? If so, your attitude towards this postman feels a little hypocritical. If I'm wrong, I apologize (I guess..) -
If you're paying hundreds of thousands of pounds in inheritance tax, you can probably live quite comfortably even on a frozen state pension!

Extra-long weekend in Thailand: here’s what you need to know
JayClay replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I recently managed to get it all upside down and inside out. After coming back from a lunchtime beer in town, I wanted to get a beer or two in 7/11 to take home. It was 13.30 and clearly the previos beer had fogged my brain as I thought to myself that I need to wait until 2pm before I could buy (!). Not to worry, I thought to myself.... There was a bar next to 7 anyway, so I sat there, ordered a beer and obliviously waited for the clock to run down to 14.00 so I could go into 7/11 to be told that they couldn't serve me. A bit embarrassing considering how long I've been here... -
Do bars in any country give out menus? Where I come from it's extremely rare unless it's a chain bar/restaurant hybrid.

I don't believe I said that, did I?
-
No. I find it hypocritical to be promoting literature about how athiests can be "cured" when you don't believe it yourself. I don't know what point you're trying to make. And I don't care anymore. Thanks for all the input so far, anyway. As I said, I did learn something from it at least.
-
Your messaging on the topic is therefore confused and there's not much point discussing it further (after we kinda hijacked the thread in the first place.... Sorry Mr Bob)

So are you now changing your origonal claim that you need to find spirituality in order to beat alcoholism?
-
It's just a different form of spirituality though, isn't it? If I were an alcoholic and needed support I'd be searching out a group who promoted a belief that anybody has the power to overcome an addiction. Not a group that tells people that they are powerless to counter the problem by themselves ????.
-
I didn't know that. So I've learned something new today. I still believe that the enphasis the group place on spirituality is probably the reason that you've not encountered too many athiest recoveries, rather than your belief that spirituality itself is a necessity for recovery.

Sugary products like chocolate have shelf lives of literally years. And if the problem is that they're running out of stock, how can it even be considered a shelf-life issue??
