  1. Longer lasting is a reasonable argument. Is this still the case with the newer plastic notes, though? I'm not sure what the impact of inflation is?
  2. I have no objection to a cashless society. That's even better than a coinless one to me.
  3. Firstly, of course there will be some jobs. Work would be a lifestyle choice, though, rather than an expectation. Secondly, both the tasks mentioned would certainly be possible with AI. Think bigger.
  4. Does anybody know the reason for changing from notes to coins in the first place?
  5. If the wrong people are in charge, as they were when the computer revolution happened, they will dedicate all their resources to making sure that people still have to work. Control freaka are scared shipless of a society where lowee class people have the freedom to choose not to work.
  6. There have been reports of long waiting lists for getting an appointment in Vientiane so make sure you make an appointment at Vientiane before you attempt to get a visa at Savannakhet. Unless you're in no real hurry, of course.
  7. This is what I did. But not the full 60 days... It's a multi entry visa so you're supposed to be able to come and go as you please. I booked just a few days with Agoda then cancelled after I got my visa.
  8. I find it quite amazing that you managed to both know what the person in front of you purchased, and then hang around to watch the person after you complete their transaction.
  9. Why would they have mentioned it? Why is it important? What difference does it make to getting an answer to his question?
  10. I'm not retired and I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "flair" in this case but, yea, hanging off the back of a baht bus certainly gave me a talking point when I got back from my first holiday here.
  11. Who says his home country even has a "safety net"? Maybe his home country is in fact incredibly unsafe?
  12. I'm not sure but I think it gets complicated by certain promotional items entitling you to extra stamps.
  13. You'd prefer a drunk driver to a taxi that you can't give "better" directions too? Each to their own. (yes I ignored the comment about not being able to tell the taxi to pull over... Because I'm sure you can do)
  14. Omg I wish they'd re-issue those. Add in a 5bt, 2bt and 1bt note too, please! Coins suck!
  15. I thought you were moving to the Philippines..?
  16. Threads like this are my personal vindication for always flagging down a sawnthew in the road, rather than getting on at a pre-determined location. Walk to bus stop, get in bus, be confused about which bus you need to be on,wait for bus to fill up, go. Vs Don't move anywhere, wait a couple of minutes (at the longest) for a bus, flag down bus, get on the only bus.
  17. However, a visa usually has a validity or "enter by" date.... Perhaps there needs to be 6 months from the enter by date? I don't know, I'm just guessing here.
  18. 7 months and 18 days from the date of your application? Or from the date of your intended entry?
  19. Imagine a taxi driver that relies on Sangsom or Hong Tong.
  20. Op. What exactly do you hope to gain from this? Currently your gf has the house and land in her name. What advantage do you get from giving her a load of money to put the building in your name? What freedom does that give you that you didn't have already? If you think that it'll give you the final say in any debates over what colour to paint the walls, think again. And if you think you *need* to be in that kind of position, then you have bigger issues...
  21. Why are you agreeing with me so aggressively?
  22. I've never met the guy or his girlfriend so I'm not one to pass judgement. All I can do is evaluate the risks. Somebody suggesting that getting a mortgage and paying off gradually has less risk than paying for a property outright needs thier head examining. Just because it happened to work out, doesn't mean it was a good idea. Far more mistakes go unpunished than those that do.
  23. When the relationship ends, the payment stops. When you buy outright, it's all gone. Think about that for a minute.
  24. And you can't do this while the house is still in your gf's name because....?
