It means that if you give someone 10000 and you buy a 10000 phone on Lazada from China there is little benefit to the Thai economy which is the purpose of the 10000 baht. I support it only as much as if money is given to a wide range of thais it is better that the status quo where the poor get nothing much. You probably have heard of this but could be a so called pig butchering scam where the young girl contacts you as though it's a legitimate contact but wrong number - you reply out of curiousity - a friendly discussion ensues maybe over weeks or months - with hints of romance because you are different to other men - then they ask for funds or discuss how much money they make from x investment and then you send funds . They'll even call you but they wont be the pretty young thing from say Singapore but from a call centre in Phnom Penh. Saw a thing on it where the senders of messages often get abused by big bosses in the process too - on low pay.

Have her over to dinner. See if she's smart, how she treats your son, if she is serious in her studies, is career oriented, appears to have a nice stable family, and is respectful to you and your wife, then that's a good sign. Even if she doesn't tick all the boxes you can get a sense if she's likely to lead him astray.

Thailand is economically very right wing in terms of rich and poor of course though there are exceptions such as pretty good broad access to health care. As long as you acknowledge that and don't abuse your place in society - your spending can be helping rich and poor - then it's not bad but definitely not without potential contradictions to consider.

There is no doubt unions did lots of good stuff for workers in Australia. A union in Thailand for construction workers might make things a lot safer with more reasonable pay. Construction workers in the very strong unions in Australia get excellent pay but the developers are still able to make a good profit. But then you hear of people controlling traffic on AUD $200,000 including overtime on government construction projects and you know it's gone too far. In reality if all the cleaners joined the union and flexed their muscles during pay negotiations they would likely be better off. But I understand not wanting to join too.

Actually that included one way with leg room. I am 6'5'' and I have had some bad times with people in front but this trip was not bad. Rather spend on nice hotel .. can hack it for 9 hour flight.

Been surprised this trip Koh Chang. As you say can be dirty in low season but have seen very little rubbish. There was a guy collecting outside the hotel this morning on Khlong Prou but nothing much to collect.
