  1. I used to swim at a fitness center with a full weight room near the pool for the "muscle guys" as I called them. I had a conversation with one of the Thai trainers the gist of it was that I don't think those guys could swim 1000 meters. The Thai trainer said: Most of them could not make to the end of the pool
  2. For a while early 1970's in California, I lived near enough to the Rouge et Noir Creamery now renamed https://marinfrenchcheese.com/ Founded 1865 -- oldest cheese maker in USoA.
  3. I looked at that cheese monger Mellis website. In Scotland. Been there since 1893. OOPS. My bad. Small print. 1993.
  4. (non-footy) When I went to the 8th grade graduation ceremony in USofA (age 14) the class size was about 200 boys and 200 girls. We were marched in by height. # 1 boy was a hunchback dwarf who only lived a few more years. #2 was a Chinese kid. I was #3. When I graduated high school at age 18, there were several guys who were 4 inches taller than me. When I went to the 20th annual reunion, the same guys were 4 inches shorter than me. However, I was a runt for several years post-18 until I grew almost 8 inches. I lived for years with the sobriquet "Little Jerry Mahoney". So at age 71, I am happy where I am.
  5. How did he do it? Here's a start:
  6. Some people put others on ignore because they find them to be obnoxious jerks. I don't put anyone on ignore because I find reading the posts of the persons that I might consider to be obnoxious jerks to be of high entertainment value.

  9. Now early 70's. One way I choose to acclimate myself to my eventual demise is to read the NY Times obituary section. Stories about famous people and often people I've never heard of with fascinating life stories.
  10. From the movie Airplane! (1980): Young Boy with Coffee : Excuse me, I happened to be passing, and I thought you might like some coffee. Little Girl : Oh, that's very nice of you, thank you. [takes coffee] Little Girl : Oh, won't you sit down? Young Boy with Coffee : Cream? Little Girl : No, thank you, I take it black, like my men.
  11. Time to stop leaving your keys in the bike.
  12. Thanks for your guesses. I am a handsome man. Perhaps that explains it.
  13. As I have often read on here, someone consults with a doctor at a private hospital and the doctor says that you need xyz procedure or surgery. Then the doctor says: I am also on the staff of the local Thai government hospital and I can do the surgery or procedure for you there for x % less. So my question is -- aside from whether this is ethical on the part of the doctor -- is the doctor offering the alternative as a benefit to you and maybe to get some hard cash into the government hospital coffers or is the actual fee received by the doctor him/herself for the surgery or procedure maybe larger at the govt. hospital than at the private hospital?
  14. I don't. I've been a target myself enough times already. But thanks again for the heads-up that those nasty pills your doctor prescribes for you can cause kidney and liver damage.
  15. To the above: They forgot (now) convicted felon Ms. Elizabeth Holmes “First they think you're crazy, then they fight you, then you change the world.”...
