Thai students rank below average in global education survey
HappyExpat57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I seem to recall a recent election where the people's choice was rescinded by the military in power. I wouldn't call the people dumb, I'd say rather they're helpless to do anything. -
Thai students rank below average in global education survey

I used to work for the largest private school system in all of Southeast Asia (and if you know, you know). I did time in several of their branches, and they had one constant - many of the foreign teachers got PLOWED on a nightly basis, and the school admins were aware. Of course not all, but a disturbing number of them. As long as you had a white face and didn't get caught molesting the students, you were good to go. -

Lately?!? I've seen this same story and the same replies posted for almost two decades (and that's all I'm aware of - most likely has been going on long before). -
Learn how to make USB installation media (or get a tech savvy friend to help). Not difficult at all: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

I like what Joe has accomplished, but he's WAY too long in the tooth. His paraphrased words: "I'm a one-term president to make sure you-know-who doesn't win the election." Joe's hubris has a strong chance of destroying democracy as we know it in the US. We ALL know what a dumpster fire the likely Republican candidate is. IF you buy into polls, ANY unknown Democrat candidate handily beats dumpster fire by a sizeable number of votes, while Joe is virtually neck-and-neck, sometimes in the lead, sometimes NOT. It absolutely SUCKS thinking "THIS is the best both parties can come up with?" I'm tired of having to hold my nose when making this choice. Again.

Facebook has gone crazy draconian with their AI censorship. I got flagged for referring to MYSELF as a fat old guy. Seemingly innocent phrases will knock you out of the loop and you have NO RECOURSE. Trying to complain to a FB admin is futile. I doubt 1 in 10,000 requests for more info are looked at. Move on to Instagram. MUCH more lenient, and where I used to find myself getting in arguments (much like this arena) I've found myself less and less on FB and AN, and more on Instagram, actually laughing at posts. Instagram seems like what FB used to be.

Republican George Santos expelled from Congress in bipartisan vote
HappyExpat57 replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Here's the deal - the Republicans fought like hell to defend him cuz they needed his vote. Then it became apparent he would tarnish their already filthy party reputation and hurt their reelection bids. At that time, they turned on him and the rest is now history. The trouble with government is there's just too much politics. -

Oh, he's gonna be held accountable. The best he can hope for is a plea deal, and I can't imagine what he has of any value to negotiate for a lower sentence. -

There were STILL 114 Repubs and 1 Dem who voted against expelling him. -

Pubs and bars in parts of Thailand a step closer to 4am closing
HappyExpat57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Bars/pubs in Pattaya are already open until 4:00 a.m. This would merely legalize their operations. Could the issue be that brown envelopes are at risk? -
