She said they asked her why I was in Chanthaburi. "No foreigner comes to retire in Chanthaburi!" they claimed. She was very distraught after the meeting with them. She told them I like to ride my bicycle which was true. Chanthaburi has some very beautiful riding trails. I have not been impressed with the lack of "customer service" attitude at Chanthaburi immigration. I've done one extension so far, and even though I brought in copies of my entire bank book for the 800k as well as the actual bank book itself, they demanded I get an annual statement from the bank. That was an additional unnecessary, annoying step and 100 baht. Never had that happen at Jomtien. I also have never been given any TM-30 paperwork to attach to passport though the front desk gal went to immigration to register me. Heavy sigh, if the women weren't so damned cute . . .

Goodbye Alcoholism, Hello Sobriety!

Didn't you recently post you had gone on the wagon? How long do you think THIS one will last? -
I had three (!) Immigration Officers come visit my rented condo in Chanthaburi about two months ago. I wasn't home. I got a call from the gal at the front desk saying these arrogant <self deleted> demanded I return immediately. I told her to tell them I was half way to Jomtien and I wasn't about to turn back around on their say so. She told me later they grilled her for about 30 minutes. Thankfully, I had treated her very well, giving her free English lessons whenever I could, and she told them I was "very jai dee" (her words). I haven't heard from them since.

Rivals Launch Bomb Attack on Pattaya Cannabis Seller’s House

Really? Possible many other mind altering substances, but weed? If he had been a regular imbiber of the devil's lettuce, WW II would not have happened. "A new book proposes that Adolf Hitler’s campaign with the Third Reich was fueled by cocaine, heroin, morphine, and crystal meth, amongst a great many other drugs." https://volteface.me/did-hitler-get-high/ -
Yeah, another boondoggle. The school I worked at received a number of these useless tablets the first time they tried it. I KID YOU NOT - there was a picture reading exercise that showed a fat old foreigner at an ATM, and the point was for the student to enter the correct pin to receive money to give to a young Thai woman.

I apologize for all the snarky comments. Too many people wished they were stand up comics and, for lack of ANY talent, missed that boat and wound up on this forum. There are many broke, desperate folks in the world (NOT just Thailand) who would jump on the opportunity to snatch a laptop. Even if you lock the software down, thieves can remove the hard drive, access all your files, then sell the hardware (drive, ram, etc.). Take it with you, don't let it out of your sight. Chances are you have too much sensitive info on that machine.

Bad Biden polls stoke third-party angst for Democrats

It will be more like the end of democracy, much longer than four years I'm afraid. -
Will a Thai Will confilct with International Will?
HappyExpat57 replied to CrossBones's topic in Insurance in Thailand
I'm doing that just now. I have a US-based will for my assets back in the home country and am making an additional will in Thailand for my 800k to go to my son. The will I am purchasing is 5k baht, and if you don't have the required sponsor in Thailand, they charge an additional 10k baht for their attorney to facilitate the will when the time comes. -

Where to buy Mac compatible gaming mouse and keyboard in Pattaya?
HappyExpat57 replied to ding's topic in Apple Products
It depends on the games. If they aren't resource hogs then a 2nd hand Windows 10 laptop can connect to a monitor via HDMI and will make you very happy. I had an older Dell laptop, Win 10, 16 GB RAM, and successfully played GTA 4 on it. I do take issue with your blanket statement "Mac is far better." I've been using both for years and there are things a Mac will do that Windows can't touch but, as you're experiencing, Windows is far superior in the gaming arena. -

I'm not being sarcastic or snarky, honestly - why not get a relatively inexpensive Windows machine solely for gaming? SO many better choices in games available and plenty of gaming peripherals are yours for the asking. -

Of course not. Some people are floating arguments looking for a place to spout. -
The difficulty of avoiding sugar in Thailand.
HappyExpat57 replied to Felton Jarvis's topic in Eastern Thailand
For what it's worth, you are pre-diabetic the moment you're born. It's just your pancreas wearing out, happens to everyone if they live long enough. Found I had full blown diabetes about 5 years ago. In order to keep glucose at desired levels, I have to prepare all my own meals. If I eat at a restaurant, it throws things out of balance, some places are worse than others. As in everything throughout life, it all comes down to choices. A few falls from grace won't do permanent damage but it is something you have to watch. -
Foreigners arrested for working without permission
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I've personally known only two guys who tried to get work permits. There was a mountain of paperwork, multiple trips to Bangkok because there were always MORE documents required than the instructions originally stated, and in the end neither of them got a permit granted. I have a feeling a street vendor has neither the time nor the resources to do this. As I just posted above, they need a common sense worker's visa/work permit program. -

It's the same damned problem in the US. They need a common sense worker's visa/work permit program. There's obviously a NEED for these folks. -

I don't believe so. I've bounced between Chonburi and Chanthaburi, and I KNOW Chanthaburi couldn't care less about us foreigners. It's been streamlined for me since the new system came up.
