I stated self sufficient, which you doubt. Didn't say everyone would be happy & prosperous, not that everyone is now. Yes, 'legal' immigrants. Illiterate folks are good, someone has to do the jobs nobody else wants to. The USA is almighty, at the moment, and I don't think I commented on that at all. Their economy is so intertwined with China at the moment, China would never be a threat, or USA threaten China. Just fodder for MSM, and idiots to have something to distract themselves with. Russia has enough problems of their own, or so I read, and aren't a threat to anyone, and don't want to be. Again, just fodder for MSM idiots. Everyone else is an ally, or has no military worth speaking of. I'm far from a USA fanboy, I did leave 25 yrs ago, and doubt if I would ever return ... nuff said

Yes, they are self sufficient. Raise, grow, produce enough food for the whole country, and have more than enough oil & gas, even coal for energy. That's self sufficient. This one is a bit contradictory, and surely USA could drill & pump more oil if needed ... Most countries can't feed themselves, or produce enough energy without imports. Thailand is another of the very few countries that can feed itself, and probably energize itself, if it really had to. And another reason why I chose to live here, JIC it ever hits the fan I think 33% is being very generous ...

Minimum required to live comfortably at a young retirement age
KhunLA replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
I'm sure 'expensive' is relative. Peeking in Philly area, wouldn't call any of the prices I'm seeing cheap. $40 / 7 gr, cheaper if buying 14 or 28g, but still silly priced in my world. On topic, if farming or dealing, then, selling/bartering weed for products/food and or services, he is working, one way or another. -
Carful ... Don't enjoy the 'meds' too much, or you may end up like Elvis Nice to read a positive topic, as rare 😎

Yes, as I've lived, live outside big cities & tourist area, and easy to enjoy the benefits, and ignore the negatives. Depending on the area and your tolerance, can be a mere 5 mins away, or 30+ minutes. Many areas have easy access, so may not even need your own transport.

Depending on the bank, you can control the limits. I just raised mine from the default 50k, to 300k THB. I believe Wise has a limit, but it's very high, or was, so shouldn't be an issue.

Why do people still deny the Holocaust ever happened
KhunLA replied to Rimmer's topic in Off the beaten track
Simply corrected a reply to me, not the topic itself. To comment on the topic any further, my opinion of, would be useless as deleted, as surely someone, or not, would take imaginary offense. No sense in me wasting my time. Did that already replying to you. Have a nice day -
You expect to get different answers than what the other thread provided. Every version or C&P seems to work for me. If it worked in the past, then it's not your device ... ... which means ...

Why do people still deny the Holocaust ever happened
KhunLA replied to Rimmer's topic in Off the beaten track
That's a bit short sighted ... "The word 'holocaust' comes from ancient Greek and means 'burnt offering' Long before the Jews took it for themselves. Yes, holocaust / genocides seem to happen fairly regular ... ... Darfur ... Rwanda ... Bosnia and Herzegovina ... Cambodia ... Mao Tse-tung’s Cultural Revolution ... Nanking ... Holodomor ... Armenian (Ottoman) ... Herero (Namibia) ... Native Americans ... Transatlantic Slave Trade -
At present, China is the only country the USA benefits from. Best to keep the close & friendly. If China quit all trade with the USA, it would be a major set back. If the rest of the world quit trading with the USA, it wouldn't even be noticed. A few rich folks would lose a bit of their bottom line, and hat's about it. IMHO

Holocaust - genocide - massacre mass deaths at hands of humans Vahz - vase All the same. As I stated, can't comment further. -
Will primary use be for vlogging, or do you simply want an action camera. If this is hopes of developing a 'channel' as working income, you'll need decent equipment to stand out from the pack. Saying that, I know one channel, who does quite well, and only uses an iPhone, but has software & patience to produce quality content. I have Xiaomi, ThiEeye & Akoso action cams, and work fine. Though would recommend using with a gimbal. A good gimbal will cost more than the cams. Personally I'd get an Insta 360 camera, as amazingly stable footage, with option of not missing anything, due to 360 capability and amazing software suite. I had one for a short while, damn impressive.

To the title ... (didn't read OP or the thread) The USA is self sufficient, as can feed & energize itself. It doesn't need any other country, so no repercussions would ever effect the USA. Total isolation would be the best thing for the USA ... IMHO Especially if manufacturing returned, and the rest of the illegal immigrants got deported. But that has to happen within the next 12 years, or it never will.

@Hammerheads Agree with above 100% Don't sell off home in UK, or buy in to a home in TH, until you live in TH for a couple years, and test a couple areas. TH isn't for everyone. The heat can be very oppressive, and the cooler northern areas, can have horrendous smog almost half the year.

Which one To the implied topic ... hard to deny, though not sure I believe the numbers (6M) constantly repeated. Or the need for the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly reminder. Doubt if I can comment any further. -
One of my dogs died suddenly. Lost a fight with a truck. Idiot GF let her out of the house without being on leash. Only the loss of a child would be worse, I think. Had one week, where I lost wife (first love), job, car & apartment, though got over that surprisingly easy. Too easy to replace those, and would be repeated a few times

Both of the 'scripts' I mention are available OTC, and very inexpensive at any pharmacy.

As is the toast, even homemade (flour, water, yeast, salt). Can't avoid all processing. Haven't tried yet, but could make my own. Only need milk, lemon juice & salt, and that food processor.

If I didn't take that iconic photo myself, I doubt if I would believe that aluminum & tin foil can made it to the surface and back.

@OneMoreFarang Got me thinking so did a test, let the outside air in for more than a few hours. Impressive, and spot on with local reading. We're just a couple kms from that tambon, I think. Where ever they source the info from, pretty damn accurate. The state they source it from radar ??? https://www.accuweather.com/en/th/ban-thung-khlet/436192/air-quality-index/436192 15 minutes later, and we're back to heathy, just the purifiers on.

Not technically toast, but just had a very nice Grilled Cheese (Swiss) 😎

Minimum level of Thai knowledge and language for long term residents
KhunLA replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
Why ? I've been here 24+ years, and very far from fluent, conversational, or reading & writing. Realized the other day, I forgot how to write my name in Thai script. Conversational, I know the numbers, and enough to get by, but no way could have a conversation with a local, except for the very basics. And not even sure about that now, as I've seemed to have forgotten more than I remember. Don't need help doing my visa extension. Or banking, setting up. Can do driver's license, car registration renewal (yearly tax) with no problem. Easily negotiate a govt hospital by myself. Residency would only give my more rights, which I don't need. One of the reasons I've stayed here so long, it's simply too easy to, with minimal or no effort. If I didn't have daughter, or present wife, I'd probably leaned a lot more Thai. Not sure about fluent in conversation, maybe if the talk real slow. I could read & write Spanish, but holding a conversation in Mexico was near impossible. They talk so fast, my brain can't compute that fast. By the time I was done thinking about the first sentence, they were on their third, and left my brain in the dust Same with French & Latin, though never got a chance to use French, and I try to avoid priests -
As do others, that don't live here. @StayinThailand2much If funds have been here for 15 years, and not in the bank since, it does beg to question, either where the funds came from, or where the funds that you live on now, are coming from. Without a record of being transferred in from abroad, it would be easy for the Imm officer to assume you are working here.
