  1. Here is the link: https://www.mlc.com.au/content/dam/mlcsecure/adviser/technical/pdf/age-pension-qualification-and-portability.pdf If a person who has returned after an absence departs Australia within two years of becoming an Australian resident again, the autonomous pension is not payable outside of Australia (ie the general portability rules will not apply)20 . So if you are overseas permanently and have lost your medicare card. Then go back to Australia for treatment (and thus have to get new medicare card) you would then be sentenced to another 2 years wait before before your pension is portable again.
  2. I am not suggesting. It is written in the legislation. If you have moved permanently overseas and then need to go back for medical care under medicare you will then have to endure another 2 year waiting period before your pension is portable again.
  3. There is this long held view that if and expat is living here long term on the pension he can just fly back to the home country and use the medical system there. In fact I saw an some Aussie guy on his youtube channel suggest just that the other day. I read something very interesting in the fine print of the Australia Social Security Act last night. It states if you have advised Centerlink that you have moved permanently overseas, but then return to enter back into the system to be eligible for Medicare, you would then be subjected to another 2 year waiting period before your pension is again portable. I don't know whether or not this also applies to the UK or other countries in Farangland. So for those thinking that their emergency rip cord is heading back to Oz for treatment, take note that will sentence you to at least another two years on prison island.
  4. Mangrove forests are depleted because they have been cleared or they have died off due tidal volume changes that result from coastal developments. Planting will not address either of these issues. The planting program adumbrated in this news article is just a PR stunt.
  5. But isn't the tide line getting higher each year because of climate change? So many lies around the climate change debate difficult to find any real facts. Climate change is the new terrorism.
  6. Most of the kiosk machines you refer to have a 10 baht minimum from what I have seen. The orange ones charge a premium of 2 baht for the top up. Some other machines that have popped up recently also have a 10 baht option but the premium to top up is 5 baht or (50%) the price of the actually top up.
  7. Unbenknown to me there is actually a AIS Buddy shop here. I went there yesterday but they told me they cant do number porting and that closest option is Airport at Phuket. I will try to get down there later this week health permitting. I intend to do the 4444151 call to get the MNP from True while standing in their office in the Airport. Then walk to the AIS office with the code to get it to them and get my new sim.
  8. Yes that is correct. I cannot rely upon a solution that involves some random third party. I need a hard solution I can manage from my end. @Bruno123is a bit bossy at times but he definitely what he is talking about.
  9. Hello all Phuket residents. I need to port my True number to a new AIS SIM because True is blocking the OTP sms messages sent from my banks. I have tested an AIS sim and it works. I have limited mobility and live in a rural area in Phang Nga that just has mom and pop phone shops. I will have to travel down to Phuket. I see on Google that there is supposed to be a True shop and an AIS shop located in the Airport International terminal. That would be the closest location for me. Does anyone know if the Terminal shops are currently open for business and would I just be able to enter the terminal to visit the shops as a walk in customer. Also can anyone confirm if the Big Tesco on near the government hospital at Thalang has both and AIS and a True shop. Thanks very much for your assistance.
  10. You are not fully appreciating my mobility issues. If I just go to a location where there is only an AIS store and for some TIT reason I also need to go to a TRUE store which is located in another area that is a big issue for me. Better to access a location where both offices are located just in case.
  11. No not BS at all. This year the beach dogs here where starving and regularly attacked and ate pups from new litters. Thais are not the only ones suffering from no tourists. Pre covid also the pack numbers were getting out of hand. A pack attacked and tried to eat a Thai toddler on the beach at Sarasin.
  12. My next challenge is finding a location that has both a true office and an AIS office in the north of Phuket. I looks like they both have an office in the airport but not sure if I can access them.
  13. @Bruno123 I am still not clear which number I need to use to request mnp code. You posted this number above. But you also posted this earlier in the thread. ------------------------ Your translation: Send a request via SMS to number 4444151. ➡ Foreign customers, type Passport number (print both numbers uppercase letters, lowercase letters correctly) press Send ---------------------------- Which is correct number to use? The USSD or the 4444151 number? Thanks for your help.
  14. I have been here for 12 years and have not been back to Oz in that time. I have no family whatsoever there that I could rely upon for support. As I reported in my other threads I suffer from a chronic genetic blood disease for which there in no cure. I live in Thailand because it is a lot cheaper for me to access a reasonable quality of life and low cost treatment options. I also self manage a lot of my health because most medicines I use are available over the counter and if bought in bulk at very cheap prices. I am basically a long term medical tourist. At present I am too ill to travel on a plane. How might someone in my situation obtain an activated and set on roaming SIM card that you describe? Any
  15. @Puccini. I also wonder because you can enter your own amount, is it possible to enter just 1 baht and process the top up? I don't yet have a AIS sim to try.
  16. 5 Gold Stars to Puccini for his Kasikorn hack. I have just logged in to my Kasikorn account and there is indeed the facility to set up payment for top up to all Thai SIMS. I did not trial a 5 baht payment yet because I have to port my TRUE number to an AIS number but at this stage I think it is a winning strategy. Thank you very much @Puccinifor this tip and clear instructions how to use it. Your kind input is greatly appreciated. So with just a few minutes online I should be able to do 12 x 5 baht top ups and add 12 months validity for just 60 baht.
  17. Interesting. Did not know this. Where is the link? Is it just 1000 baht per year or per missed report?
  18. I just discussed this very point with a friend on the phone tonight. You will need to take very good care of your original vaccination paperwork. If it is lost or stolen you will not be able to replace it like a passport or get temporary papers reissued. And what is also likely, is that if you want your covid passport reissued there will not be sufficient records kept at the Thai end and you may well have to go back to the original place you were jabbed which might be at the other end of Thailand from where you want to board a flight but have lost your covid paperwork. Just my thoughts, please add your views, but I would currently argue that you should guard your vaccination passport even more closely than your passport. Especially in the next few years until some standardized system is established globally.
  19. Flawed logic I am afraid. Fact is that all most all farangs here are at best on a 12 month visa. That could change in heartbeat due some random decision from government or the outbreak of conflict between the west and China over Taiwan. Best a dog could hope for is that their farang master will be around for at least another 12 months. Especially if they are from a country such as Australia that will do everything possible to stop you from expatriating a Thai doggo.
  20. I can't get mail to my house. My mail box is about 30 minutes away. Closest mall in Phuket with AIS and TRUE office is about 45 minutes away. Can you just explain to me, like I am a small child, or a golden retriever, how I get the porting code, and then more importantly how do I obtain a new AIS SIM and use the porting code. Can I just use a new AIS SIM that I would buy at a mom and pop phone shop here and and then punch in the porting code via USSD. And if so what exactly do I need to punch in. Thanks for your assistance. Regarding getting out and about, that is why I went to Phuket last week (It has just opened back up). I visited a very old friend and played with his new toddler at the beach. While I was there I went to the AIS office as I previously explained.
