Pattaya Property tax - anyone received this years bill?
J Branche replied to scubascuba3's topic in Pattaya
Some of us are eager to pay our property taxes in Thailand. That statement has never been heard in the US. I understand why someone in the US complains about inflation when property taxes, health insurance, college tuition, eating at restaurants, and many other things are expensive compared to other countries. -
Report Bangkok's Daily Condo Rentals: Illicit Practice Persists in Sukhumvit
J Branche replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
The Hotels have to be licensed, pay taxes, have technicians available 24/7, some pay franchise fees and have certain certifications also. Not every room is rented everyday so the price is actually the cost of the room, hotel expenses for an estimated average occupancy time frame. Airbnb just has building maintenance expenses, annual property tax, and possible loan costs. Cleaning fees are additional but included in the hotel. I liked Airbnb many years ago because the unit was in a building for residents and I want quiet and to relax when I go back to the room. Hotels people come and go at all hours, come back and make noise after drinking and don't care if you disturb the neighbors -
Crime Taxi Driver Blocks Ambulance, Leading to Patient’s Death in Patong
J Branche replied to Georgealbert's topic in Phuket News
Definitely one of punishments should be that they spend time in a morgue to see what possibly caused the patients early demise. They want to block an ambulance but if he were inside that ambulance he would want people to clear the path. Definitely think some of these people's brains are baked from being in the sun to long. -
Travel Pattaya Faces Mixed Reactions Amid Decline in Chinese Tourists
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
From what I've seen the Chinese mainly visit in tour groups, travel around to pre-arranged destinations, eat at buffet restaurants, not really causing any trouble, don't seem to buy much since it is probably cheaper for them to buy in China. Am relieved that the 50 tour buses that use to parked throughout Phra Tamnak have dwindled with the reduction of Chinese Tourists. -
Then my plan worked. The appearance is of low value to deceive any potential thieves. My friends have had their gold necklace, gold bracelet liberated from them because they want to be flashy and try to impress others. I don't blame the victims, it takes some next level stupid to try to steal from someone on a plane, with usually limited escape routes, cameras everywhere in airport, and adequate security.

No just running away from what they somehow classify as insurance which oddly enough includes a premium payment, deductible and co-pay. Talking about Scams. So I pay, then for you to pay I have to pay a certain amount first, and then that is not enough we split the bill 60% you pay 40% I pay. Does that sound like something you would be interested in? You are essentially self funded in the US since to afford a lower premium you have a high deductible.

DiY Retiement Extension - Jomtien
J Branche replied to Pattaya57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Does anyone know if the Chonburi/Jomtien Immigration has the ability to make an appointment online? I checked the Main Immigration website and it had every Division but what I believe is the Central Eastern Division for online appointment application. FYI, for a Extension of Stay based on Retirement. Thanks. -
Traffic Pattaya's New Parking Rules: A Bid to Untangle Congestion
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
So they have a parking problem in these key areas. Sounds like the need for either mass transit or more efficient use of Truck Taxis with parking lots in certain areas were people can park and ride the Taxi or Mass Transit to their destination. The other problem with congestion is the ability of an Ambulance, Police, or Fire Truck to reach their destination in a reasonable time. -
Renewing my retirement extension at Jomtien.
J Branche replied to Gandtee's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks, I always give them to many papers and they give back what they don't need. Just trying to make sure less familiar are prepared. -
Renewing my retirement extension at Jomtien.
J Branche replied to Gandtee's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't see the requirement for the hand drawn map to your residence on the list for Extension of Retirement using the 800,000 baht in the bank method. Is this no longer a requirement at Chonburi/Jomtien immigration? Thanks. -
Report Drunk Foreigner Found Sleeping in Phuket Graveyard After Beach Party
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Reminds me of the foreigner passed out and turning redder by the minute on Pattaya Beach. I would try to wake him but afraid he would get angry and want to fight. -
Accident Road Rage Incident in Pattaya: Biker Smashes Van in Broad Daylight
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
"Thongmai insisted that there was no prior conflict or provocation on his part, leaving him bewildered by the biker’s violent outburst." Could be case of mistaken identity as those vans look very similar. Anyways I'm sure the passengers will spread the word on how friendly the locals where, they even help you open the windows to enjoy a nice sea breeze. -
Opinion Russian Teacher to Thais: Drop ‘Farang’ if 'Ni Hao' Offends
J Branche replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't find it offensive, they use it interchangeable with me I hear my name most the time and Farang the other times. I have studied behavioral psychology and this is a learned/conditioned trait. They are products of their environment and just mimicking others. In their society it is considered acceptable -
Report Swiss Man Faces Arrest in Phuket Over Alleged Assault on Thai Doctor
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I think there are a couple of things going on. The alleged assault received a lot of media coverage and was seen allegedly as a "Foreigner thinking they can come to Thailand, disrespect and assault a Thai person and think there are not going to be any consequences". Then the victim continued to pursue that appropriate action be taken. Lastly the assailant allegedly is known as a repeat offender around the area.Couple of things. Think the media attention this received and that a Foreigner kicked a Thai that the perception may have been "Foreigners think they can come to Thailand and disrespect, bully, and assault a Thai person who is just sitting on a step" They needed to send a Clear message this is Not acceptable and there will be consequences. -
Microsoft Office has gone up up 25%! What alternatives are there?
J Branche replied to nglodnig's topic in IT and Computers
I use Libre Office, the spreadsheets and document parts the most. For normal stuff it is great, no problems. I know probably 4 or 5 years ago the spreadsheet part had a few bugs but they have been fixed for years. Someone talked about the format saving as Libreoffice files. Somewhere in the settings or properties you can change the default file save type/extension. -
I think it is a combination of being able to communicate your destination effectively (language barrier), knowing the fare or fare price range, having an estimated time the driver will arrive, convenience of someone picking you up at a certain location, the driver and car information being available along with rating provides some comfort. Additionally if you have special requirements (a lot of people or luggage) you can select the appropriate size vehicle.

Thai Baht Set to Break Key 33/USD Level Amid US-China Trade Tensions
J Branche replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
These are probably the same analyst on Wall Street who constantly adjust their forecast to the day after the earnings report is released When Baht hit 34 mid rate I checked the forecast and it was a lot more ambitious, I believe over 36 by end of year I just try to transfer some when rate is good for that period and what I feel it will do in the future
