  1. My advice, keep your focus on what is important family, friends, health, success, giving back and helping children and others. In Thailand you can make a noticeable difference helping your girlfriend's school age children with better math, English, critical thinking skills. If you can teach the children the skills to be successful and the benefits and changes it can bring to their future and their families futures.
  2. Quality dental work of quality US or foreign standards like others have mentioned is not cheap. The prices are listed on the Dental Websites. Unfortunately I had a lot of dental visits in the past. Look for how well the Dentist communicates, get an Xray, is it a quality picture? What type of clients are in the lobby, foreigners, do they look like they have money to go anywhere but choose this Dentist. How many days do you need to wait for an appointment may be indicator. Depends on location and if low or high season. Do Not be afraid to go somewhere else and get a 2nd opinion. Last crown I had the Dentist was not happy with what the lab made, had another made Zero cost to me and it has been 4 months and feels like natural tooth.
  3. Stay focused politicians. You have the ability to make real change, with long term benefits to the people who live in Thailand. Focus on, raising education standards, partially funding education, improving Healthcare, attracting businesses who offer higher paying jobs for the skilled, educated workers. Reducing corruption, improving all government processes (efficiency, online submittal, online information availability, ease of locating info) Addressing Mass Bus Transportation information availability. There is No centrally maintained, updated online platform that lists routes, departure times, costs, purchasing, and contact information for Big Interprovincial busses. These are a few key issues that are obtainable with some effort.
  4. I was bullied in middle school. Luckily, cool kid moved in next to me and became friends. Bully stopped after couple weeks because the cool kid influence. I was not cool, but not uncool so they tolerated me hanging around. I was an okay Comedian also. Back to the cause, others have mentioned the bullies home life may be cause, psychological disorder, they are bullying to highlight someone else's weakness and for the bully to feel better about their own problems. Everyone should recognize each of us have different tolerance levels before we react. It is the accumulation of constant bullying over a shorter period of time that usually triggers a response. I believe that some basic form of behavioral psychology should be taught in schools. Just basic, how our mind works, natural biases, distorted perspectives, trigger responses, people are a product of their environment (home, school, city they live in) and will mimic others actions. Lastly, everyone should know or find someone who can Help. Who are not judgmental, can keep matter private, and focus on addressing and correcting the issue without all the drama and theatrics. I'm proud of some of the contributions in this post addressing the causes and offering solutions.
  5. Actually a Speed "Hump". The bump rises and falls sharply. The hump is wider and has gentle rise and fall. In US the Speed Humps are preferred by Emergency Responders, especially Ambulances which desire a smooth ride.
  6. Who needs to stab? I hear Will Smith is looking for work. The slap heard around the world. All jokes aside, Always be careful talking poorly about someone, there friends, or family. Better to use tact and encouraging words to help someone then to knock them down to make yourself feel better about your own deficiencies
  7. You are asking the Wrong questions. What ROI minimum do you require? Location - Who are my potential customers? What is there income? Will you buy the building or rent? Are my potential customers tourist, short visit, long stay, residents in area. Due Diligence on financials. If they do not have books you now get bigger discount, the business value is substantially less. How old is the equipment, are parts available, expensive. How long do you have to wait for machine to be repaired. How many machines will you need to repair/replace/upgrade in the next two years. How long until you make a profit/break even.
  8. Big Bus is generally safer, more comfortable (can sleep), less weaving through traffic, good value. Taxi, most expensive (may ask for toll fee), most cars suspension are firm, bumpy ride, less sleep, more weaving, probably fastest to destination, room for suitcase. Minibus, limited luggage room, cramped, weaving a lot, jerky ride, multiple stops before destination. Good Value, slightly quicker then Big Bus, Must experience Once, heck of an adventure.
  9. Top tip. Immobilize the vehicle first, lift with tow truck, boot wheel, block in with additional vehicles. Make sure you have visible identification of your authority to reposs vehicle. Attach repossession documents and begin removal process (inventory interior items, document damage) Always have one look out. If threatened with bodily harm back away and notify Police. Next time the entitled bully should understand there are few free rides.
  10. These are my tips as a landlord. The AC installer is very important for the proper operation, longevity, and reducing further service calls. Buying from bigger, reputable company and asking questions about installer price, what parts are included, will installer flush copper line when changing refrigerants, and warranty from Manufacturer and if store offers extended warranty will allow greater success. AC buying advice, if you need quiet check the fan speed dB AND cfm. Check interior/exterior compressor dB. Check if it is Inverter type, most other types have hard start/stop noise, Check efficiency how many Star (SEER), Buy a popular brand Mitsubishi, Daikin, Etc, most installers will know how to install and Parts availability will allow you to be without AC for shorter time. Recently purchased 12,000 btu Mitsubishi from major retailer, they sent an unqualified installer. AC had R32 leak at interior connection (Bad Flare fitting) 4 visits to fix. This is checked by charging system, documenting pressure, waiting at least 15 minutes to see if pressure changes. Additionally using soapy water spray bottle on fittings can show a leak. I made them send new tech, Qualified professional, did and checked everything correctly without instruction.
  11. Thai language is not required in some schools. Sending a child to school is not mandatory. School is not free for most and must be paid periodically. If only a small percentage of school teachers speak English where would the past students learn a 2nd language? I know 1 teacher and 3 students and now have a better understanding of the Thai Education System. My personal advice is for a 10 year plan be created. Focus on Math (budgeting), Language skills, Logic, Critical thinking and basic computer skills. This is critical for Thailand to achieve it's goals and attract more, higher paying jobs.
  12. You can place partial blame on the Thai driver. Anyone who gets a driver's license knows the level of education, training and practice one must obtain to be considered Able to drive. Maybe not capable, or qualified. The lack of patrols and enforcement shows Thai people have different perspective about driving. How many near misses, accidents or horns were blown because of the violations in the video? Just another filler story to keep people entertained.
  13. So the solutions I skimmed are: Have Thai buy tickets using QueQ app, selecting you as Thai. (Long Stay Residents) Be prepared with Thai Drivers License, photo of Passport Main, Last Visa Extension stamp page. Try using Multiple Thai documents/ID demonstrating you are long stay resident. Tell them you can't afford foreigner price and have to buy rice for her parents. Hike through Jungle. Not advisable. Hide in trunk/boot of vehicle. Accept one time foreigner fee and make most of the day. Thai National Park entrance fees are competitive to many United States Park Fees adjusting for currency and aveage income.
  14. The story states Drug test to All Staff and Patrons. Might stop in. Highlights that their are quality patrons visiting the Club and staying in Pattaya. Hope the process was fast and not to burdensome for them.
  15. The post about assaulting the angry tourist denied boarding shows a lack of knowledge of Thai Style and Thai Culture. The man clearly required help. Thinking assaulting someone at an elevated agitated and emotional state is a last result. Your contribution is not welcome or helpful on this topic. This is eastern culture. Causing the Asian person to lose face or assaulting him at a large airport with international people sends the wrong message to the world. Thank You RTP, you achieved a positive outcome in Thai Style.
  16. Quick way to tell if it is refrigerant. With unit running for a few minutes does the exterior unit exhaust air feel very warm? Low refrigerant and generally little difference in exhaust air temp. Also check if one line is frosting up or sweaty.
  17. Wow 14 pages of replies. I viewed it as big foreigner was asked to leave a private establishment. Possibly after too many drinks he felt the need to challenge security, Not management. Foreigner maybe unaware of Thai culture and customs did this in front of his co-workers and the public along the road. This causes Security to lose some face, maybe felt disrespected, threatened by the size of the two men that when struck over reacted as did the foreigner. You are a guest in a foreign country and want others to think this is how people in your country behave when being told No. My advice is mandatory counseling session for both.
  18. Yes one known case out of over 60 million people. It is difficult when presented with this situation and definitely takes an organized, dedicated, and capable group to support someone disabled.
  19. Not sure about Luck. They are impressive with their ability to track, predict and intersect another bugs path. They can also move in many directions quickly. They do eat mosquitoes.
  20. If it is latex paint you can use very warm water, dish soap and test a small area with the scouring part of the Scotch-brite sponge. The remaining should be removed by wiping with warm soapy water and using an old plastic credit card. Those old plastic credit cards are quite handy and generally allow you to remove stuff like paint off of laminate floors, tiles, or baseboards without damage.
  21. I left the key in a rented motorbike inadvertently 4 times before Thailand was fully back open. Needless to say I purchased a transponder key motorbike that beeps when I leave it not fully turned off.
  22. Maybe because even in the US there are reports of Law Enforcement, and other public servants taking items from people's homes. I saw the one video when the camera was left on by accident and they were going through draws and boxes. I do Not think it is common but would understand if Police were alerted of valuables missing.
  23. As a landlord I use the Maintenance card to access and inspect my properties. Especially after a month or two. Sorry but if the house has little importance or value to you then others will certainly pick up on this and take advantage of you. It is in the lease they are to maintain the property be keeping it clean.
  24. Yep, Thais believe foreigners are walking ATM's. I have loaned a family military officer money that I thought I would never see again. Months past repayment deadline I gave him one month before I went to the base to talk with his CO. Debt was repaid. Another paid back 15%. I told them they are a fool that I am going to be with her a long time and they will never see a baht from me again. Another payment was made after a couple weeks. I am going to tell them I can always take her to the US. Good Luck with any money then. I would rather teach them how to fish instead of keep buying fish. I keep hearing the house thing and buy lottery tickets, if she wins lottery she can build house. I will tell them if they are not happy with the situation then they need to do what I did. Work hard, save, invest, compound the money, and continue to live below your income.
  25. Cheap Massages Affordable transportation. Scooter cheap to buy, maintain and run. Affordable Restaurants Efficient modern tech appliances. Inverter cooktop, R32 Inverter Mini Split Affordable Housing. Thai people. Seems in the US finding someone that wants to work, will work hard, and will help a customer is becoming more and more difficult. Most Thai people are not Narcissists.
