  1. I say I'd like to kill a month on the pottery island of Ko Kret in N. Bangkok, but that island might get a little small after a week. Same with Nonthburi. I want to test being north of BKK, by the river. And even the other side of the river. I did a search here and a lot of Nonthburi people from here moved out to Suraburi for less congestion. A less urban feeling AND a lot of restaurant choice is very hard to find. That's why Silom is on my 1 month try-out list too. Ban Rak etc., even Ari, it's surprising how green BKK can feel, even close in.
  2. I worked in private banking. They're very kind. They're like 'you're going to do every last thing for me, in a polite and entertaining manner, and I'm going to then really over-egg my appreciation. Ta-ta!'. The Kardashians are the living example of this. They're nice because their whole life is. What's worse was the bank class called mass-affluent ($2M, minimum balance for a Coutt's account). Dentists who own car washes. Lots of tire-kicking, stupid questions. No bottle of Dewars at Christmas. Due to lingering connections to that life, I found myself at a large dinner table with one of the younger Trumps this year. Very pleasant and ego-free. Gagging to come to Thailand. Likes a green curry.
  3. A seamless minibus transfer these days. $100 all the way in a cab. Skip PP. Just a dump.
  4. 1) Where have you done this (bonus points if it was bad)? 2) Where do you want to do this? 3) Where do you never want to do this? 1) Me, done it in: Ubon (pretty good, no need for month #2) Ko Chang (month #2? No prob) Pai (actually a real town off the falafel stand-Main Street) Ko Phagnan ( shagged Germans, now out of my league) Hua Hin (solid, would do Cha-Am next time) 2) Want to do it in: Silom BKK, Nonthburi, Ko Kret 3) Never want to do it in: Kanchaburi (angry drunk brit hellhole) -Not a beach person.
  5. I studied it to death and that, 2+ hours of rest after weights or treadmill, and 1600 calories a day is what moves my old and broken needle. I could do more or eat less, but it would just be stupid misery. I can only absorb so much healthy living in any given day.
  6. Same. I know a lot about stuff like lead paint abatement. And I know that no one else is interested.
  7. I actually do all that plus shoulder press and dumbbell extensions. I put more weight on at 10 reps. Deadlift for only 5 reps, as per the 5 X 5 website. At 70, and liking a reasonable dinner, gains are slow. About a kilo lost a month; feels skint for all the effort, but bearable. Maybe 6 alcohol units a week. A flat stomach is prob a year away. A year ago, I couldn't do a full set. Now I can do it with huffing and puffing.
  8. Problem: Buffet costs as much as a 5* restaurant (at least at lunch). So you can either have a lot of pretty good food or less food that is exactly what you want, done to death. For 2K baht, you can do very well at Ministry Of Crab https://media.weeloy.com/upload/restaurant/TH_BK_R_MinistryOfCrabBangkok/MENUMOCBangkok_1.pdf If you've got $100 a head that needs spending fast in Chiang Mai, I recco Uchi Gastropub for high-concept sushi and wagyu. Compared to New York or Tokyo, it's value for the money (service is hilariously slow).
  9. -Have had a very good experience with Dr Lilly too. She drives a Mercedes, so she's doing something right.
  10. Why can't a shut-in in New Zealand be a fanboy for imaginary hardman Trump? I'm not from New Zealand, but I still like The Thompson Twins. How is it any different?
  11. Think of the tens of millions of people who would kill to be you. Or even me.
  12. This would be a good time to become a pothead. Nothing cures boredom like pot.
  13. Sadly, gotta be my wife. Good looking AND into me. At 70, those planets won't likely align again.
  14. Eating out every night here in a decent restaurant is the greatest thing that ever happened to me with my clothes on.
  15. I do the gym, Mon-sat, alternating weights and treadmill days -to not much effect, I might add. And if we're watching something like the stupid Ultimatum show on Netflix, that'll be an 8 to nine-er till it's done. Other than that, I got nothing.
  16. Yes, but no. They will tell you yes, and in theory you can. But the merchant being paid may pay a higher commission, or prefer a Visa card. I have had my BKK Bank card declined about one time in six in Singapore and KL. You'll have better odds using the ATM of whatever the biggest bank in Kathmandu is. Or better yet, an Indian bank. Been to Nepal 4 times and would go again tomorrow.
  17. I don't get this from my health care provider. Your gay doctor may be trolling you. "Enjoy", you say? Sounds very consensual.
  18. The question was: Who will replace Weekend at Bernie's? The answer is: Not Trump Trash, that's for sure. After 8 years, 'still not enough juice to even put someone in the running. A busted flush. Next year, The My Pillow idiot will be his only friend -and maybe transexual lookalike, Kari.
  19. And now, with the wisdom of age, we know to get up and leave when they hit the "but" button.
  20. 4 seasons too. Mixed reports for the money. Meridian was very blah for Italian food. Why Not?Italian in Nimman has a 399 baht lunch special that's a deal. I eat there every week.
  21. They asked Elvis why there were no antiques in Graceland. Elvis said: "When you've poor you've seen enough old sheet to last you a lifetime".
  22. Please kill me first. But best of luck with your thing. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life, so leave this thread to what my mother (from Brixton) used to call Gloomy Gus's.
  23. I meant that one too. They laughed in her face when she asked for a publishing credit.
