Thai Officials to Discuss Rail Development With Laos
NanLaew replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This started over ten years ago and the right-of-way for the track has already been chosen and large parts of it surveyed already. This is more like a let's see if the "Lao partners" also want to own the land rights either side of that right-of-way through Thailand like the "Chinese partners" did a few years back. This ultimately stymied any agreements on who paid for the railway. With different global economic challenges that also directly impact the CCP's rule and authority back home, the time is right to revisit this project. The Chinese vasal state of Laos doesn't really have a dog in this fight, just an expensive, high-tech railway line that already been built and just needs paying for. -
How many members of TV are living a real lie? A real lie as opposed to a not-so real lie? Please try and be more specific. Some members (still) come (back) here for advice and guidance.

At my age and with so few teeth, my wife now chews my grapes first Lucky man! Sounds like you've got yourself a proper mulcher. Mine's only good for the golfball and garden hose thingmie.

A "service on my Kwasaki"... must remember that one. To wife, "Bye honey! I'm just popping out for a service on my Kawasaki, OK?" Or is it when sneaking home around 7 a.m. the following morning with, "Honest honey! I was just getting a service on my Kawaski."

Or Cullen Skink.

Yeah, but how many chats with previous "that woman" has it taken you to become qualified as some sort of forum agony aunt? How was your 'first rodeo' BTW?

Hong Kong has been and still is one of the most restrictive countries when it comes to the lingering effects of draconian Covid rules. Something to do with being party to Xi's flawed "zero covid" nonsense? I will refrain from saying "I thought everyone knew that" but due diligence is needed these days. I recently traveled to Singapore on business and luckily the airline advised me of the 72-hour pre-flight immigration registration window (includes uploading proof of being fully vaccinated) that's part of their new automated, paperless, online entry/exit procedures. My entry was fast but judging by the immigration bottleneck described by a colleague arriving a few hours later on a different flight from me, it's possible that a lot of passengers maybe were not aware of pre-registering and thus clogged up the immigration aisles? BTW, on arrival in Singapore, if you want to enter but you're not double-jabbed (or offer no acceptable proof thereof) you will be PCR tested and then quarantined for five days. It's in their "small print". I wouldn't say that someone willfully ripped the OP off for an unusable hotel room. Looking at the epic shambles at most of Europe's major airports due to lack of staff and the need to find and train new hires, I would imagine the issue of experience and knowledge also affects the less visible and dynamic aspects of the travel industry like hotel bookings and the like.

Not necessarily. The legal transfer of ownership can easily be facilitated at an LTO with a signed Power Of Attorney issued by a lawyer. However, the LTO does not due any due diligence on the authenticity of any PoA or the signatures thereupon. If the applicant pays their fees, they will do the transfer.

Need a new Android after 7+ years - seeking suggestions.
NanLaew replied to JimmyJ's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
Just over ten months ago, I bought a Nokia X20 while in the UK. Probably not available on the Thai market but easily the best smartphone I've had since the original Google phone came out. PS: I am totally Samsung averse (been there, done that with their bloatware). -
Good to know. I first got a UK post-paid SIM from T-Mobile years ago and it was all good. Then they morphed into ee where their online account management was dismal before they switched most of it to being accessible via their phone app which is even more rubbish. To initiate an international data package, it must be turned on BEFORE you leave the UK which is a problem if you are overseas already. Otherwise I have to call them which probably won't be free in the end. They also say that it can be done 'after the fact' either online or via their app but despite being the registered account holder, the only web page either keeps landing on is the one where you DON'T want to port to another carrier! Sounds like I may be moving to Giffgaff sooner than later.

Stamp for COVID extension
NanLaew replied to csaba81's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It's simply a loophole for the lazy, the opportunistic and those who otherwise don't qualify to park their bums in Thailand for any extended length of time. Being a shameless Labour voter and card-carrying union member, if there's a free tit that can be milked, I say go for it. -
Brit shows sympathy for victims of Mountain B tragedy
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Excellent point re: private and personal (see my earlier post). Maybe his friend, who previously posted, can confirm/deny he's a tiktok'er or YouTube vlogger. I would bet a large Leo he's one or the other. Seriously? The article itself says that when they quietly turned up, the squatting local media made it a notable event in an otherwise sad post-tragedy, slow news sort of day. I doubt that a serious "tiktok'er or YouTube vlogger" as you call them would do this as a way to leverage their need to be seen as an influencer. -
Police to prosecute Mountain B owner for negligence over locked exits
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's a pretty naive statement. Pretty much every bar everywhere pays the cops, so to suggest everyone suddenly stop doing so is unrealistic. It's a shame that news media here cover the original events, but rarely will you ever see them at the court finding out the verdict of any criminal proceedings. He didn't suggest that backhanders should stop. He just accused those that pay them of playing fast and loose with public safety while not mentioning those who directly benefit from receiving these backhanders. You need to know your place at the great trough of life. -

Yes, agree. It's got to be a Russian wearing those shorts. You're both wrong. It's 7 pm and he's got his sunnies on top of his head. He's from Bermondsey. -

He didn't say that all police and authorities should think about public safety and neither seek nor accept backhanders from pub owners or anyone else for that matter. As The (Thai) World Turns -
Help with Singapore
NanLaew replied to Brian Nose's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I arrived in Singapore last week and can attest to the new, online procedures needed to expedite your 'paperless' entry (but have a hard copy of the evidence of your Covid jabs anyway). The airlines kept me posted on the requirements to register 3-days prior to actual travel. When I arrived from Sabah just after 11 am, it was very quiet and I was in the hotel well before 1 pm. My business partners arrived from KL at 2 pm and it took ages for them to clear the mobbed immigration. The rack rate for my grubby 4-star hotel on Havelock was S$480/night for a regular room. -
Help with Singapore
NanLaew replied to Brian Nose's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Also bear in mind that of all the regional Thai embassies and consulates, the Singapore legation is consistently the hardest and most pedantic one to deal with. Their consular offices are one of the busiest in the region but their operating hours are as limited as the space they allow applicants to queue up in. The queue is round the back in the sun and hidden away from the grand colonial frontage they present on Orchard Road. Also, it's Singapore National Day this coming Tuesday 9th so factor that into any business there.
