that's usually a fallacy. people think that about the usa also. the reality is you probably don't get much help most of the time.

no, would not help it. it's about choosing the best option. likely he would be arrested if homeless back in home country as well. if i had to choose homelessness back in the usa or overstay here, i would choose here.

if he is really skint he could be better off here then in home country. he won't freeze or get attacked and food is pretty cheap. being homeless is very dangerous in many places, people attack and rob, it's not pretty. here he is safe mostly.

i'm in an older building and the technician seems to be always "resetting the elevator" or working on it. it usually works, but being on the highest floor it's given me reason to pause. i would probably check out the elevator as best you can if you were buying in an older building. if you are just renting it probably does not matter much unless you had mobility problems or were much older. i think it's kind of hard for them to maintain in thailand, like it requires specialized skills or something.

i'm not a "delivery kind of guy". just me, i do things the old fashioned way. you can have deliveries work most anywhere if that's your thing.

i always look for the meal first, then get that exact amount on the coupon, so there's no money left over and it looks like i'm out

so you hire a car and take groceries back from makro? can't fit much on a moped. the 3m price for that size and view looks like a great deal. probably more like 5m now?? i like the older classy style of furnishings and the older building as well. thick walls.

i hate those mall food courts with the coupon. the one at big c is kinda depressing in the evenings. the central festival one is nicer. oh nevermind, maybe you eat at the steakhouse everyday 🤣

many people find it comforting that they won't run out of money. if you spend it down that security cushion and piece of mind evaporates.

i can't blame the guy. i would not want to be in pattaya in a wheelchair either. i would probably just end up sitting in my room and drinking at bars nearby. the reason being, that's the main attraction of the area.

i lived there also. had to walk out down that long road each time for meals since i did not have a moped. how long could i do that and carry groceries that far? even then i could only carry two bags at a time.

i had a disabled colleague at work one time in a wheelchair and she said people do all kinds of strange things when you're disabled out in public because the disability makes them nervous and they don't know how to act or what to do. for example, people will come up from behind and push the chair or insist on helping you out or carrying your stuff even when you don't want them to. they will act overly nice and never "normal", or it will be the other way around and ignore you completely. apparently, it's a real head trip but something you get used to. there was a very active forum member who lived up in isaan awhile ago that was in a wheelchair, paraplegic i think, but i have not seen him post in awhile. i forget his name.

not necessarily. some people want to stay inside. if you push people it can make things worse because they end up feeling like they are not living up to "your expectations".

very carefully. i worked as an assistant for the disabled back when i was in high school. i used to make jokes to try and cheer people up that looked depressed and some of the joking was mis-interpreted. i got fired from one place. many of the disabled are on edge and not the happiest people around, especially on a hard day, and they go through a lot of care givers until they find a good match.

I would head to jomtein if i were in a wheelchair. the streets and sidewalks are pretty accessible along with eateries etc compared to other areas. there was a guy in a wherlchair living near me when i stayed at the view talay down there. people mentioned other areas. berkeley, california in the usa is likely the best place you could be for disabled living. very progressive and hugely popular with the disabled. university of california berkeley there also. not really cheap, though.
