My plan is to return to the USA every 2 years and re-apply. I would go back that often probably anyhow. It’s worth the flight for me to keep the money working, rather then sitting in a dead savings account. I also have an empty property there I can stay in so it’s not much trouble. I also like to get stuff from the USA once in awhile. I wear a size 16 (50) shoe and don’t like flip flops. I get my glasses and progressive lenses in the USA also. Maybe a new laptop and cell phone. Just more comfortable getting stuff I really need there and bringing it over.

Maybe has something to do with the financing and not the unit sales??? The profit could all be in the loan monies received. Big infusion of capital then the building is made of much cheaper materials then stated and the unit sale money is secondary. So delays don’t matter much either, or the financing money runs out or is used for other things before the project is completed.

What kind of a man are you? You can’t find a deodorant? Get a grip.

I use the O-A and like it. I have reasons for keeping the money in my home country and I need insurance anyway so no problem buying that. Of course, things could change if the insurance premiums went way up, but that could happen anywhere. I found the list useful. I’m not interested in “retiring anywhere”. I want a legal visa that works.

Too small, broski. You would end up renting off AirBNB, cleaning the room everyday, and learning Hindi & Chinese. Long term renters that speak English can’t live in rooms that small. Better chance of buying at Nirun and finding a long term broke expat to rent.

I don’t want to snitch. The guy was acting a little weird (nervous) and I was thinking about why. I just realized it might be because he was at the till.

Are foreign owners of restaurants allowed to man the register and take payments, make change etc? I went into a restaurant and the guy was at the register. Is that allowed with a work permit? The only other people around was the cook in the kitchen and a server.

I stopped using it at my last place. Reason was I kept getting bacteria infections in my ear. Itching inside the ear and some pain when pulling in the earlobe. Took me awhile to figure out what was going on. It was from swimming in the pool putting my head under the water. Drops from the pharmacy cleared it up, but I keep my head above water when I use the pool now. You need just the right amount of chemicals and somebody who “knows what they are doing” to keep the water clean. Anyhow, I used the Nirun pool only a couple times. Was always real crowded with lots of kids etc. I don’t like crowded pools and I’m not really in the best shape either, some people look better with their shirts on. In fairness to Nirun I did not get the infections there, it was at another place.

Is it really more fun in the Philippines?
JimTripper replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
What’s this dribble about needing no money? Just extending a tourist visa? it was my understanding you need a bank deposit for a retirement visa??? SRRV says you need a pension over 50 yrs old or $50k in their bank under 35 yrs old?? -

I think you get some real sicko expats in Philippines. On a whole different level then Thailand or Cambodia, which seem tame in comparison. Not sure why, maybe because the visa is easier or it’s cheaper or there’s less people around watching ????????♂️.If “scammers” here bother you though, Philippines is much worse. I think customs or immigration looks on you suspiciously more for Philippines also if your going in and out of the USA. I could see them doing secondary checks etc if I said Philippines. Just a hunch. -
Are people better now or back in the 1980s
JimTripper replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I loved growing up in the 80’s. I was in high school back then. I would do almost anything to live through that time again. -
Did you stay at Pattaya Pad? It was too downmarket for me, I never bothered checking out the room after I saw the outside. I walked around and there was an overweight burly guy sitting downstairs drinking in a tank top. He just glared at me when I walked by. There’s nowhere to really hangout at these cheap places outside your room so people end up sitting outside, down by the stairs, whatever. Nirun is a step up you have the pool, stores etc so can kind of avoid people you don’t want to interact with.

Weird stuff. I have a relative in a relationship where you can’t use their first names. You have to say “they”, “them”, etc. makes me wonder if they have a problem with the family. It’s like they are disowning the family given name when we have get togethers.

When I lived there a lot of the guys did not seem like they owned computers or had recent cell phones. Or if they did it was some old model that they did not really use unless just for calls. The guys seemed too out of it to post ???? or be technologically literate however stupid that sounds. It was like old guys who were kind of confused and not real with it.

Indian man steals money from Thai vendors near Bangkok
JimTripper replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Pretty smart actually. He used the victims desire to still have the 1000 note. No Thai vendor wants to hand back a 1000 note. He gave her the opportunity to believe she still had it by coming back a second time. In her mind she still wanted to believe she kept the note, even though she handed it back. Getting the 2nd drink let her believe she still had the note so she gave change. Sleight of mind. -
What about the nice beach and water, lack of crowds and cheap condo’s by the water??? I could care less if 70 year old expats are playing golf somewhere if I’m not around. I don’t want to be around “expats that fit my profile”. I want a nice beach with hardly anyone around, a nice cheap condo and ample food and necessities within walking distance.

That’s what poor low class people do. You need to put on some proper long cotton banana pants and a tee-shirt. Don’t forget the deodorant.

I used to have a pic of an dead end staircase in the tower building with an old dirty toilet seat at the bottom. I lived in Nirun for a month in an AirBNB one time. I lost the picture, but the seat is probably still there. I will take a pic and post if I go buy there. If it's still there it would be a year or two. I wonder who owns Nirun some Chinese company or Thai? Not sure if they care about defamation, probably not. When I lived there the dark hallways were pretty errie with all the locked metal security grates on the apartment doors. Made me wonder about the possibility of fire. Would probably not make it out if there was a lot of smoke on the higher floors. Had it been any other country I would be careful in the hallways, but since it's Thailand was not worried about personal safety. Now, I did not mind much being there in that I was leaving in a month with a firm exit date. However, if I'm stuck there long term I would need to get right with God a bit and dig in. My room in fact had a great view as it was on a high floor facing the sea, but if you slip on that balcony your a gonner, no chance of survival if you fall off. My neighbor was some european guy who used to bbq on his small balcony with a hibatchi type deal. Always had his shirt off in boxers, etc. looked pretty low class to me. some guy scraping by on a small pension. i wonder if he's still there???

Wrong, it’s being neutral and saying nothing. Believe it or not acting miserable attracts people that want to help you or soothe you. Take the motorbike taxi or watch selling guys. You walk by and say nothing. Being nice is baited as interest, being a dick is seen as a challenge or noticed more next time.
