  1. I have thought about that a bit. There is some mental limitation for me when I try to simply duplicate my life here as back in the Usa. For some reason it never feels the same and I feel like I need to do things the Thai way when I'm here. Theoretically, it should be the same in both locations since physically it's just a change in landscape. I sometimes make a conscious effort to do so but it does not last long.
  2. Maybe that's what that guy was doing who was sitting on his bed staring with the door open?
  3. Not when you are older. It's hard to travel around in the heat with a 20kg bag. People still do it though. One guy just recently had a heart attack and was moving around like that full time. Steady Eddie on youtube.
  4. With what money? Jomtein is a skint expat area. Things to do is just what the Op said, sit around by the pool and cheap happy hour beers later on.
  5. Nah. I should not need to guess or ask why. Proper thing for the server to do is say excuse me could you please move for such and such a reason. That way I know if the request is for my own comfort or an issue with the restaurant. I can choose my response accordingly, either move or go elsewhere.
  6. Exactly. That's where I get it as well, at relatively empty places where there is no obvious reason to move. I could understand the reason for a switch at a popular venue without needing to ask.
  7. It's your turn to clean the toilets this week. Please excuse yourself from the meeting early. I look forward to your input at the next meeting. Soap and scrubber is in the closet and you will need to order some more deodorant.
  8. Not to my knowledge. Nor do I have a clown mask on 🤡.
  9. Can't you read? Stop yapping about nonsense and watch this video:
  10. More then that. I do full body shaves and alcohol wipes.
  11. They would likely ask for a business license. Otherwise the visa becomes meaningless as everyone does a youtube vlog and calls themselves a nomad.
  12. True. They may be more upfront if I was not seated yet. I don't like waiting for staff so will often just walk in on my own. In other countries they have a "wait to be seated" sign in the front.
  13. I guess that would work in the Usa. That's the problem. They don't insist due to the face issue. So I'm left not knowing if they want me there or not. Get it?
  14. 🤣 Lol, no typically it's towards a more central or obvious seat or in the middle of the room, which I don't like. However, I get the feeling it may be a power trip to just move me and not really about seat position. I chose my seat, so it's makes little sense to assume I would prefer a different seat. I like unobtrusive seats in the corner or back or against the wall. I guess you could call them "quieter seats". They are not removed enough to be inconvenient for staff though.
  15. Often when I enter a restaurant in Thailand and sit down the server will come over and gesture for me to switch seats. Even when the venue is uncrowded and I have my pick of tables. Does not happen at streetside places, it's always at nicer more expensive places. I don't like sitting where others want me to sit. I just refuse with a smile, but the refusal is uncomfortable. It opens the door to them possibly asking me to leave the restaurant (though have never had it happen). Also, it's never explained why they want me to move because of the language barrier and also it causes some friction to ask why. Whether it's a "you may be more comfortable over here" or a "that seat is a status seat and reserved" or an anxiety thing like "I have to do something, but I don't know what, so I play with seating when someone comes in to break the ice" thing. What is the proper thing to do, move where they say, get up and leave, refuse with a smile and remain seated, or start asking for a reason in front of other customers?
  16. Noise basically. Very similar to what the adults are doing near me. Maybe left out rushing. Being scuttled and rushed from place to place. No time to think or reflect which leads to critical thinking and problem solving. There should be a required meditation class without distractions or chanting.
  17. Not sure why so may expats here detest cold weather. It's great. I guess they just need something to complain about.
  18. A lot of california is just like living in mexico now. I know people who live in neighborhoods where everyone speaks spanish and there is a taco truck on the corner. The toilets still work better (if you can afford an american plumber).

  20. No wonder I'm having problems meeting the "right" kind of partner here.
  21. Yes, but they are not happy. It's something else. Smiling and interacting is probably a universal sign of happiness. Unless you want to disagree and mention some tribe somewhere where ignoring your partner makes you happy.
  22. They do that everywhere. It's a big red flag most of the time. I can tell the difference between a "comfortable silence" and a "silent meal". The ones I see in many tourist locations in Thailand are the "silent meals". It's due to the fact that it's often a transactional relationship. There's nothing much in common. The language barrier to a much lesser extent.
