That was fun when I was younger. As I approach retirement age and am less mobile and my eyesight not as good situations like that become less fun and much more risky.
I'm not sure how he does that. I lived up there in isaan for several weeks with a GF many years ago and I felt so alone, more so then being by myself. People yammering in Thai was very annoying. The locals were on another level and no real genuine connections felt possible. I started taking long walks alone to get away from people and it was so nice to be alone by myself out in a rice field with nobody around. The Thai's seemingly don't like that and it's hard to get away. Glad it's working for him though.
Of course, it could just be me. 😂
He liked it enough to buy a house there and return, already knowing what it was like there. So you're incorrect, otherwise he would have chosen another location.
I have real estate agent handling it this time, so I think I may get it back. I gave the deposit to him in cash and he said he would return it in cash, though technically the contract says it was remitted to the landlord after it was paid. It's a sizable amount (40k baht) so I'm hoping for the best. Will update here if there is a problem.
If it's not returned it falls on the agent as far as I am concerned, since I handed them cash.
Sounds financial to me. Would you still be here if the Usa was cheaper?
Interesting point why the guy in the video is leaving on a whim. He does not care about the money saving aspect much.
I'm staying in a managed rental and am moving out at the end of an annual lease. The place has become a bit dirty. Nothing in the contract about cleaning.
How is this usually handled in Thailand? Should I hire someone to come in and clean it to move in condition, or does the property manager usually do that anyway after move out no matter how clean it is and deduct it from my deposit? I probably can't get it as clean as when I moved in.
The landlord is not very approachable (never communicated with them) and the real estate agent will handle return of keys at the property on day of checkout.
You don't need to have sex very often as you get older (mid 50's). For many guys going to a place like thermae is not worth the trouble. Even training the rooster becomes a non-issue at a certain point. It's more about unwinding with a couple beers and hitting the sack early.
How old are you?
You're better off pulling a monkey (spanking it, five finger shuffle, boxing the jesuit, electing the president, fly fishing, darth vader head massage, defeating the cyclops, working late at the office, strangling the midget, driving a stick).
I can't see myself submitting an IRS 1040 to any poor country or agent where people are making so little. It's just too weird divulging that amount of info, including occupation, social security number, etc.
Even when I gave a bank statement for the Cambodian visa I cut off the actual account numbers (got called out for it).
Have you tried Siem Reap. Lived there for a year. Very affordable. Not bad, but lacks things to do so you might get bored.
I think it's more lack of boundries and inability to set limits, then impulse control. They get thrown into a society that does not enforce limits on personal behavior like their home country does, so they don't have the self-control skills required for long term success.
