  1. Just wondered why you chose there knowing about the small rooms. I stayed in VT2B a month and was glad to get out.
  2. Which VT are you in and for how long? These types of interactions are there. I think part if it is the bar scene here. Guys are used to sitting at a barstool near other guys and expecting a conversation. I also interpret some if it as gay, but it depends on the guy. It's always at the back of my mind.
  3. Would likely just result in more personal questions, not a forthwright answer.
  4. How would that scam work? They are in a foreign country. Do they force me to buy a watch in a back alley somewhere.
  5. I have never been to India. Hope it's not a gay pickup thing. It happened one time with a man/lady couple late at night near klang and 2nd road. Nobody else around. It looked like they crossed the street to specifically confront me. He asked about mcdonalds or some hogwash. I pointed them to central pattaya. Then he kept asking where I was from after that. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  6. They are not dressed well and look like they just came over from india. Also, no watch case. It happens right on the street, not in a venue.
  7. I don't think they were selling anything. It's tourists.
  8. I keep getting approached by India guys in Pattaya, in the evening. Starts off with 'Where are you from?' or some similar hogwash. What could they possibly want from me in the middle of Pattaya? I don't have the will to remain in the conversation long. Last night it was a large guy with a big gut who kind of pointed to my stomach. Did not feel like a homo thing. It's weird.
  9. It's getting worse. There are a lot of low class india people and chinese coming in with poor manners. When you let too many people in it changes the culture and responses you get.
  10. If you are dealing with them directly (no agent) and they say just get out, I would just leave. That's pretty much an all bets are off situation. What's the alternative? You can't sit in the house watching the door or worrying every time you go out if they are coming for your laptop. I would not keep paying anything, just leave. You're only out possibly the two months deposit. Maybe ask for the deposit back and if they don't respond leave the place dirty. They have these wet concrete balls you can flush down the toilet. They harden in the pipes later on. You can't tell they are in there until someone digs out the pipes months later. The 'Anarchist Cookbook' is a great book and has all kinds of ideas like this.
  11. So what? You still need the docs. Does not make any difference who is renting it out. Get the docs or they don't get paid. Stop making excuses! Demand the documents you need at the same time you pay the deposit. There's no reason to withhold info and you deserve the papers you need. If they don't like giving out info you're going to have problems anyway later on, with things not getting fixed or whatever. Better to bail now, then later on.
  12. I forgot to add that several of my interactions with bank staff have been less then pleasant, so that's a big reason I never opened an account. Sounds crazy to 'one off' on a couple interactions, but that's how I feel. Not somewhere I would want my 800k sitting if there was a problem. I still go into the branch to pay rent to the landlord. I actually would advise US citizens to get a thai account. They freeze US accounts these days if it looks like you don't have a real US address so you don't want to get caught out. If you had the 800k in a thai account that's good backup money in an emergency.
  13. I think they intentionally starting putting some blacks in the american bandstand dancing crowd as a racial equality gesture as time wore on. You would always see a token black or white person in a crowd of another color 🤣.
  14. Man up. Either you get the documents first or you go with a different agent. The agent in question risks losing the commission. Usually every agent in town knows about the same property and it's listed for rent on all their websites. Look for an agent who needs to close the deal. Don't let them rush you into a deal. Nobody gets paid until you pay them. They will sometimes try to trick you into believing many people are looking, or it will be gone tomorrow, etc. My comment was what to do next time. The Op has already handed over money so they don't have much leverage now.
  15. I'm not sure Soul Train & American Bandstand were for famous musicians. They seemed to be up and coming artists. Also, American Bandstand was for the whites, Soul Train was for blacks. Also, Casey Kasem with the Top 40.
  16. Stay in a monthly Airbnb while you get all the papers needed and to feel out the landlord at a regular place. You have the advantage of time. Airbnb's are all over and don't cost much more and there are no deposits. Landlords are under pressure to rent vacant properties. Let them know you are interested and view the property. Then negotiate the deposit way down to nothing.
  17. They also seem skittish about walking around. The bus stops directly in front of the venue so they don't need to walk out in public much. Then, it picks up in the same spot. If they need to cross the street they have the lady with the stick and stuffed animal assisting with the crossing. I think they are afraid of being out in public around foreigners. Afraid of being seperated from the group in a foreign country.
  18. My other main reason for Mexico is that I'm from California. I want to eventually buy a cabin in the USA to retire to and it's an easy trip to arrange that, but Mexico is a second choice because they won't kick you out with residency. In Thailand I start missing the reports and all that jazz and it puts my visa in jeopardy. They also have the accessible national healthcare system. How am I going to afford healthcare in Asia (if I can even get it) with premiums going through the roof as I get older, just not be insured?
  19. I never really wanted to stay indefinately in Thailand. I put off getting an account because it was not absolutely necessary, still isn't. Same with the driver's license. Call it lack of motivation or hanging onto the prospect of leaving. My primary reason for being here is financial. I always thought I was just on a long vacation, but the years went buy and that was not the case. I'm looking at Mexico now.
