  1. Thai's don't know how to do that. Also, can't save.
  2. Probably just burning through savings or an inheritance. It's hard to see money flowing out of your pocket when you are drunk and preoccupied with girls. All you see is people telling you how great things are so you can't see the losses, or see them somewhere but end up believing things are great as other people tell you so things must turn around soon. Can't let all those happy campers down, especially if you have come to know bar regulars, so you maintain the illusion until you are forced to sell. Then do so quietly by making an excuse like a medical issue or whatever so you don't look like a loser and elicit pity from others. No real loss, people forget quickly and move on even quicker.
  3. Me too. After about 53 I could be fairly happy celibate. The desire is not there, either physically or mentally. Most of the time I'd rather just be swimming.
  4. Businesses here don't typically care about long term strategies. It's more about immediate gratification and grabbing what they can get here and now. Same reason most people don't save and invest for the future, but just spend to live for today.
  5. I wish there were more actual spontaneous "parties" here, like in college. Where there were strangers hanging out having a good time with a keg at somebody's home you barely knew. I miss those days. I don't get the same feeling from the bars and establishments here. Maybe they try to hard, they are too oriented or there is a money grabbing issue that feels uncool. It could also be that it's overkill and they are always there, overkill. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I never feel like I'm having a good time on that level here and I'm still trying to figure out why, but it was what I always hoped Thailand would be and I think it's what it tries to be in many ways.
  6. The world economy is getting much worse. Scams of all kinds will increase as people get low on money.
  7. I'm thinking about going back to Siem Reap Cambodia when my O-A Visa expires. I was kind of bored there last time, but I just want that easy visa without thinking about immigration stuff. Have never been interested in the Phillippines, probably just a dump. I don't know where else to go. Feels like almost every country has endless hassles with visas and I'm always watching the calendar.
  8. I would not sign anything. It's still a cash society. If more drinks come then I ordered then get up and tell the manager they were not ordered. Even better, get a drink menu. The price can be whatever they want if you don't have a menu. If they still demand 1k per guy then tourist police settle it.
  9. Where did you get the vitamins? I noticed a lot of odd branded vitamins on Lazada. Strange brands that I never heard of that looked like lower tier companies in the Usa. Some people were saying the labels were crooked and things did not look right.
  10. I stopped wearing flip flops. Only wearing the quality sneakers from the Usa now. It's not that hot. I'm also wearing regular levi's again instead of shorts every day. Feels much more normal.
  11. What country are they from? Makes a big difference to the story.
  12. As a general rule, countries that are more familiar to you are always safer, your home country being the safest. The reason being that you know the environment better, know how people will respond and know social cues better.
  13. There was one guy many years ago around Chiang Mai that would go around filming everything and interviewing foreigners. I saw him one time at the food market our eyes met and I quickly ducked into a store to avoid having to do an interview.
  14. I do that occasionally when paying and if the vendor is real busy. I pass them the money with exact change without waiting for the usual acknowledgment. The difference is that I don't do it when they are talking to another customer, only if they are busy working in general or too busy to serve in the usual manner. So I'm not cutting someone off who is there. It's between me and the vendor and there is no "triangle" there between three people.
  15. That's how it should work theoretically. Life is complicated. In this case if the bank owns the property now the lease is toilet paper unless it says on the lease that it transfers over to the bank in a default. So the lease is not working at all and my guess is nobody cares what it says. There's no reason to pay a deadbeat landlord.
  16. You sound confused. Why would they want to keep paying rent if the deposit is not returned? If they don't pay two months they are even. The landlord is out nothing.
  17. I think the Op would still lose the deposit though since the landlord has that money. If the bank honored the remainder of the lease the Op would be in the same situation of not wanting to pay the last two months.
  18. Read the post again. They are interested in getting the deposit back in time spent living there if the landlord is broke.
  19. It's unlikely you will stay very long. The thought of someone coming in unannounced, or taking your things when you are out, as time goes on wears on you and makes it too uncomfortable to stick around and not worth it.
  20. If they get a vacate notice on the door, that's a landlord breach of contract, not a renter breach. The deposit would be required back immediately in that case.
  21. If the bank gives a notice to vacate all deals (lease) is void. You're just a squatter at that point. I'm pretty sure they would leave a date to vacate the property by on the door.
  22. Just stop paying. Worse case scenario you get evicted. So what. It's not the end of the world, it's just an eviction.
