Ok, enough from the peanut gallery. Technically you're right, because behind the Avenue condos is the Whisper Hotel and the vacant lot is behind that. What in the name of God do I, or the drugged guy have to gain from fabricating such a tale?

This gentleman was in superb condition, looked like a runner and had the handshake of a bricklayer. I've seen the guys you're talking about. In 2022 there was one in a pharmacy on Buakhao who had a gangrenous foot from diabetes. The lady pharmacist tried to direct him to the hospital but he was already drunk before noon and would have none of it.

I sent an email to Starbucks head office commending the ladies who tended the gentleman's injured feet. It appears that they will get some form of recognition from head office via the district manager. The ladies behaved in typical (in my experience) Thai manner: kindness and caring.

I have no idea how much a coffee at Starbucks costs and figured 100 baht would cover it. He turned down the offer because the robber left money in his hand.

A couple of hours ago I was walking past the cut through at the Avenue Mall when I saw an older gentleman leaning against the wall, gasping for breath. His feet were swollen and a hell of a mess, beside them were sandals several sizes too small. Turns out that he had been drugged and robbed last night and woke up in a vacant field behind The Avenue condos. His passport, wallet, phone and shoes were gone, yet the robber had left money in the palm of his hand. The gentleman was disoriented and deeply ashamed, thinking that he'd had too much to drink on the first night of his trip. To me, this obviously wasn't the case as he had no smell of alcohol on him and none of the other signs of a hangover. His feet were absolutely destroyed. I walked him over to Starbucks and offered him 100 baht to buy a coffee, but he refused as he had the money the robber had left in his hand. I then went to the DIY store and bought a pair of soft slippers and socks for his damaged feet. Upon my return to Starbucks it was a relief to see him in the care of the ladies who work there. They were tending the wounds on his feet in an expert manner and helping the gentleman to re orient himself. We talked for a few minutes and I explained that he was drugged, not drunk, to which he agreed. He still couldn't remember which hotel he was staying in but he did know a girl in a nearby bar who could help him fill in the details. I left him in the care of the Starbucks lady, who refused my rather offensive offer of a tip (when will I ever learn?) so I sent an email to head office about her and will follow up to see that she is commended for taking such good care of a customer. If anyone who reads this post knows the English gentleman please let us know how he's doing. I returned to Starbucks at 1400 to walk him over to the bar where his lady friend works but he was nowhere to be seen and the bar hadn't opened yet. The last bar he drank at employs both real and fake women, take from that what you will. And be sure to keep an eye on your drinks.

Not fake news, but definitely a misleading use of a headline in an effort to buttress a weak position. Kind of like the title of this thread. From the article: "The officers were allegedly involved in issuing visas to businessman Chaiyanat Kornchayanant and other Chinese nationals who were connected to "grey" businesses in Thailand." "Chaiyanat and several of his associates are currently in custody on multiple charges, including narcotics trafficking, money laundering and involvement in organized transnational crime" Jomtien wouldn't accept my income letter, despite it being legitimate according to Thai law. They happily directed me to use an agent to circumvent the need to keep 800k in a dead Thai bank account instead of back home making 5 percent interest. The agent has been quick and painless, so I've stuck to that method. I think it's great that people jump through the hoops and follow the letter of the law. Sadly, I tried that approach and was rebuffed by a corrupt system.

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
Bobthegimp replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The article is worth a read. Their take is that this is a "tax the poor" scheme, whereby people can give gifts up to 20 million baht to their spouse or be here on a Long Term Resident's Visa and pay zero tax. They claim that dual tax agreements might provide "some" relief for pensioners, where most tax treaties strictly forbid dual taxation of pensions. We'll see.- 440 replies

PM Highlights Drug Crisis in His Parliament Address

Funny that the Chinese aren't dumping fentanyl here like they are in the West. The meth in Thailand appears to be a much milder form than has taken hold back home, where street people told me that the tweakers are dangerous and prey on the heroin/fentanyl addicts and drunks. -

Read the article on this one. It sounds like he got caught out on a misleading post about his lineage. -
Tragic scooter crash in Thailand leaves Queensland dad in coma
Bobthegimp replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
They've raised under 8 grand, so it looks like the unfortunate fellow isn't going home any time soon. His kids are 3 and 9. I hope to God the oldest one hasn't read this thread. The scooter probably only came with one helmet. My guess is that he gave the helmet to his female companion and chose to take the risk on himself (and his kids, by proxy). A very bad stroke of luck that will destroy many lives. A few hours ago I posted a link to a video of the last scene of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" which was rightfully taken down. While harsh, it's probably the kindest thing to do. -

No reason? You must be one of those guys who came for the temples or to take the waters. Being free to move around is a fine thing, but we are all different ages with different priorities and levels of wealth.

And so the exodus of quality expats begins. This time it's personal

Better for what? I spent a year in a Thai village one weekend and couldn't wait to escape. No wonder so many men up there become drunks or get murdered by their neighbours. Pattaya has a bad reputation for antisocial behaviour, but when measured against the population density it comes out favorably in comparison to the rural areas. Then there's the incest and perverted teachers and monks up there. No thanks, I prefer the open degeneracy of Pattaya and Phuket. -
There's a version of rhe video without the geezer yapping away just to hear the sound of his own voice. If this is the Chilean women's team video, they took more than 5 minutes to do the pool section and cheated in multiple ways just to get through it. A men's team from San Antonio (and not the best team) finished the entire course in just over 3 minutes.

Pride (behind Avenue shopping center) Diana Estates (center of Buakhao) and Whitehouse Condotel (soi 13)come to mind. PBC is across a parking lot from Whitehouse and houses the Sportsman and Das Berliner in the building. Center Condo on Pattaya Tai is within staggering distance to Buakhao and songtaews run all night. A 5 minute walk down to Second Road and a short songtaew ride will get you anywhere you want to go.

Give him one last adventure. Better to die with a woody buried in a young tart than at home in a hospice bed. The airport staff will happily put him (and you) in a cart and express both of you through customs. I've seen it happen with men in their 70s. Heat and humidity are easily avoided - by avoiding them. Go from the airport to a taxi to the hotel to an air conditioned room in a brothel or gentleman's club. Get a ho to come to the hotel room. Medical insurance? For what? So the medical industrial complex can extract money from a dying man? People really need to accept their mortality and get the most out of life. If he dies here he lies here, no need to waste money on repatriation of a corpse. Bring a pill bottle full of ashes home and tell customs back home that it's ash from Mount Pinatubo or some such thing. Make his final days worthy of a song.
