    FYI: here is a list of some of the nomad visas with the lowest requirements. https://www.travelinglifestyle.net/these-7-countries-offer-digital-nomad-visas-with-less-than-1500-salary-requirement/ Colombia offers a 2 year visa and the minimum income requirement is $684/month. Ecuador is also 2 years. Oh, the article also states that Bermuda cost of living is very high.

    Not everyone goes through life with unremitting good fortune. There may be health issues, emotional issues caused by distress of divorce, etc ... some people need to battle alcoholism. There are all sorts of problems that people can have during their lives. No need to be snobbish if you made it to a higher rung. If you can afford a swankier place, then just don't live there.

    No, it's not. Most folks on this fourm only want to stay in thailand, but a lot of other countries have much better options for digital nomads. Bermuda has one of the best - a one year digital nomad visa with no minimum income requirements.

    In an ideal world, everyone would always smile at each other and the smiles would be genuine. Smiling at people you don't know can sometimes have the perverse effect that an unscrupulous person sees it as a sign of weakness. You're letting your guard down. Or percieves it as "you want to be friends" when you don't. I have no expectations that people should be smiling all the time.

    I nearly got my ass whooped by an arab guy on beach road one time. the guy was walking with his gf and I guess some freelancers (not ladyboys) were cat-calling him. and the guy started verbally attacking the freelancer. i guess his religious beliefs were in direct conflict with the freelancer's invitations. i stupidly got involved and told him to leave the freelancer alone. and then the guy nearly assaulted me.

    I think a lot of them quit after going broke or not making as much money as they thought they would online.

    that was my point too. if you go around smiling at everyone, then you will need to shake people off. it's better to go around looking mean & miserable so people won't bother you.

    that kind of money requires a lot of intelligence and wisdom and maturity to manage or it can bring a lot of trouble. you would need to know how to distribute it among family to avoid squabbles ... good luck with that kind of money.

    maybe they've had harsh lives. russia also has some of the worst climate in the world. it might be miserable to live there. i don't smile that much anymore. it's not good to show everyone that you are too friendly. it can be interpreted as a sign of weakness by unscrupulous people. unless you're in the tourist industry and you need to pick people's pockets.

    the downside of smiling is you need to guess if the smile is authentic or fake. so there is an upside to a society where no one smiles.

    we're all bombarded with information which no one but you is responsible for blocking out. regarding this thread, it was started impulsively. the main message was that several flight paths are odd, maybe suspicious ... but let's leave it at that and not infer anything any further. that's about as much time and energy i want to put into this topic.

    some of the things on your list are valid points. a lot are tourist attractions which a long-term resident will not make much use of. for folks who can't discipline themselves with the endless bar scene, pattaya will just be bars all the time. not a healthy life.
